Hmm, things didn't go as expected because someone went full stupid and got themselves or someone else killed? If it was one of them who died, that introduces complications of all sorts but isn't necessarily too awful. If it was one of us, the sky will burn.

What are the odds of the update not even covering R2 because Hana tracked us down and gave Hazo house arrest for being in a strip club?

Eh, whatever, we'll just go missing-nin again. Investigate this "nameless fear" possessing the Tsuchikage, visit Yuno, kidnap Anna, maybe go to Bear. I didn't like Leaf anyway; too crowded.

(Also, note that the update doesn't cover only the battle. Maybe something interesting happened during the afterparty, or during the break day.)

Is Hiashi going to force us to do missions we don't want just to keep us out of the village?

Technically, he can order us to do anything. In practice, I imagine it would be seen as major abuse of power for the Hokage to do something like this to his political opponents. The other clans wouldn't stand for it, because it would effectively infringe on their own privileges.

Besides, I'm not convinced he's going to be openly antagonistic towards us. Once he actually secures the hat, it's in his best interest to build bridges and secure our cooperation. I wouldn't be surprised if we effectively end up having to trade our military inventions for the Hokage's stamp of approval on our other projects.

Jiraiya lost the hat, nooooo...

FUCK.

Edit: Now... did a PC die, did our traps kill someone, or did we roll a critfail for "random stuff happens" and get pounced on by a Watchers-Akatsuki-Lupchanzen coalition?

E2: inb4 "yes", inb4 "of course", inb4 other equivalent.

Ya know, I bet Kiri decided to try and drain Keiko's Pangolins. Because wouldn't it be just fitting if after going through so much trouble to warn them Jiraiya's warning goes unheeded by the one person who needed to listen most?

Technically, @eaglejarl only said something he didn't expect happened and that we will react to it. But since we don't know what EJ expected to begin with our pessimism is shooting through the roof.

Your guarantee of Some Fool Genin was correct and they actually died trying to brave the minefield and or they tried to pick the lockbox.

Goo Bombing the lockbox prevented them from avoiding the lethal trap. Woops.

Alternatively: one of the Pangolins got popped.
I've finished figuring out what happens and it's now time to actually write it. All I can say is: Wow. It did not come out the way I expected. The other QMs and I are bracing ourselves for the reaction.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say youre getting your pre-update trolling jollies in. If something really bad was going to happen, I dont quite think you would expose knowledge of it happening before the actual update.

He also didn't specify that he figured out what happened with regards to the fight.

This could very well just be the speech he's talking about.

No chance of that happening. Everyone would get briefed on this issue just before R2 starts (if not in the barracks) because Mist can't afford to take risks.

No time like the present: @eaglejarl, @Velorien, @OliWhail, did we identify the following as belonging to R1 Blue Teams?
  • Team Mugiwara
  • Team Chinin
  • Team Gensou
  • The Wakahisa (how many aside from Kiri?)
It's a really important and totally urgent question.

Although if the issue was no one took the nonlethal minefield seriously because they werent concerned it would be too dangerous, and they actually just ran through it...

... and it would then imply, that WE SHOULD have voted the lethal force option anyay...

... I might cry a bit after I laugh for an hour or two. I havent decided yet

Someone had all of their air passages clogged by sweet, sweet goo and asphyxiated.

After we thrash all opposition, one of our teammates spontaneously combusts from our shear, overwhelming, radiating smugness.

All the deaf, mutilated, intimidated, moronic contestants who wake up to find their teammates and leaders in apparent comas freak out and forfeit the Exams. R2 is just Team Uplift and ISC having a picnic. Also, that annoying proctor accidentally dies.

All is well.

Okay, whatever happens, don't be mean to EagleJarl.

If you have an argument for why Hazou's corpse should not actually be floating in a puddle of Kei and Noburi's blood and entrails, then keep it desalinated.

One of the few things I would find "unexpected" is us somehow knocking this one out of the park.

Like "Hazou suplexes a handful of genin into the dirt in the first Round." level of unexpected.

Perhaps Akatsuki decided it would be the perfect time to stop by for a chat?

Maybe EJ and Oli opened the character doc of one of the combatants:

"Secretly Itachi hiding under uber-Genjutsu henge. Who knew?"
- Velorien

Or some out of context problem or unforeseen interaction has caused a very dangerous problem, as is custom.

Maybe the other guys killed some of the folks on our team accidentally? Be a bit of a relief TBH.

In fact, I'd suggest PMing said arguments to someone who seems calm at the time, before posting them, to strip them of salt.

I would go a level further and suggest you hold off posting and compile a list of citations, evidence and whatnot before posting a well reasoned argument a day or two later, after someone else checks it over.
