I am not good at social shenanigans and so did not include them in the hopes that people would be willing to make detailed suggestions. Your suggestions are good (discuss how we contribute to the R2 attack; presentation with Jiraiya; cultivate relationships with Red Team One), but I'm not so comfortable with writing just that, would rather have some detail before adding.

Just woke up but give me an hour or two and I'll try to get you something more concrete

Because we want the enemy to come along pre-arranged vectors of attack that we can counter as opposed to them doing whatever and us being unable to stack the deck defenses wise besides generally?

If we know exactly where they will be coming from this is an enormous tactical boon.

Having half tunnel in does two things:

1) Splits them up
2) Wastes Earth teams chakra.

As Panashe has demonstrated she can trivially detect anyone loudly tunneling toward us underground in a group of ~10 people. Have Paneru set up some defenses to slow them down and we can trivially take out a group of 10 people in a tunnel: one earbuster thrown in from above does the trick.( Mook Teammate #4 can do it.)

If we try to ensure an underground assault, the team who hid underground needs to wake up late. They remember getting effortlessly taken out by an opponent that they never saw, in an environment that they were supposed to be masters of.

If we can ensure an underground assault anyway, that would be great.

Alright, that makes more sense. From what I was reading I thought the idea was to have obvious openings that we wouldn't be defending for whatever reason. I'll scribble something out.

Yes, thank you :D

Guesstimate enemy combat styles (physique, weapons...).

Generally brainstorm plausible defenses.

Should be done in collaboration with Shikamaru, I think. First one: because he may have useful information about bloodlines/abilities from Leaf reports or personal observations. Second one: because it would let him tailor the strategy he will be convincing STR to follow for our defences.

Additionally, could we drain some prisoners at the end of the day again, in order to "refresh" their period of unconsciousness? So that they wake up a few hours before R2 starts. If we can, I think we shouldn't do that to everyone (or ISC wouldn't be able to execute their plan), but a few more important people. The three Wakahisa, for example: empty their barrels then refresh their unconsciousness, to somewhat reduce enemy's chakra poll.

Yeah, I wanted to talk about that...why are we mutually precommiting to these tactical maneuvers? Especially the underground one, when we have implosion seals to counter underground approaches but are making an argument for not using them.

Which reminds me: Add testing Implosion seals including their proximity detection triggers to the plan please. We should make sure that this will stop tunnelers and give us a warning but not kill them. We can test this by having Hazo make a tunnel for his clone to approach the trap.

I had some ideas on what order they should wake up:
Sample preferred order:

  • Trigger happy beatsticks first.
  • Unpopular people next, who get swayed by the beatsticks.
  • People who are close friends with those already swayed.
  • The bulk of candidates.
  • Social spec, intelligence boosted bloodlines, and Kurenai last (they know us, they know ISC, they have the means and motive to make this fail, so we deny them opportunity.

Yeah, absolutely. Only the short range ones though! Can't risk someone being de-lunged.

Yes, thank you :D
Ah, it was mostly a tongue in cheek way of giving it to Shika. Ideally we want him coming through:

1) Obligatory safe path through traps (this all but gives them a runway to come down on, have fun Pandamonium and Keiko).
2) Underground tunneling (Panashe, go crazy.).

Note: I'm still using the mental model of our defenses where we bomb out ~3 zones worth of stuff in either direction with our (still prodigious) heavy explosives loadout.

I imagined the conversation would go like this:

HAZOU: - and so there will obviously be a very clearly delineated safe path through the sealmaster prepared ground, obligated by the rules.

SHIKA: Yes?

HAZOU: It would seem that this path is very optimal for an attack vector, despite tactical objections to the contrary, because sealmaster prepared ground.

SHIKA: Hmmm. Yes, I see. *nods*

HAZOU: Likewise, something optimal to get around the defenses would be to have a significant contingent tunnel underground towards the facility. You know, to avoid mass Goo Bomb spam?

SHIKA: Quite right.

Shika implements this with the understanding that it doesn't blow the cover story and that it gives us time to prepare against *EXACTLY* these assault tactics.

Lots of changes. @MMKII could you check to make sure this is the right idea?
Taking most of this stuff from MMKII's plan. Ping me.

Word count: 167

[X] Action Plan: Retroactive Partying
  • Run plan through Keiko/Noburi, and later with ISC (as applicable).
    • Maintain OPSEC (handsigns/Air Dome).
  • Don't jeopardize Round 2.
  • Stick together.
Retroactively:
  • Guesstimate enemy combat styles (physique, weapons...).
    • VD check elemental affinities.
  • Pangolins:
    • Maybe unsummoning some (Pandojuru, Pangaya), reducing chakra drain.
    • Summon Paneru: Casing/defense consultation.
  • Deliver prisoners to ISC.
    • We're "honoring our deal".
    • Confirm details to keep story straight.
  • R2 prep:
    • Brainstorm plausible attacks/defenses.
      • Limit attack vectors: 'Safe' Underground + single aboveground path (we turn into a deathtrap).
    • Case locations with Pangolins for: tunneling defenses, Pangolin counterattack/ambush vectors, effective defensive artillery fire....
    • Make thin MEW sheets for 5SB.
      • Enough to defend outer walls/key rooms from inside.
      • Tie together (wire) & put in storage seals.
    • Make seals as time permits.
    • Test implosion seal anti-underground effectiveness (use clones).
    • Re-drain prisoners to refresh unconsciousness.
      • High-priority targets: Wakahisa, social specs, intelligence bloodlines, Team Kurenai.
Afterparty:
  • Have fun. Socialize with everyone!
    • Jiraiya calls the shots.
  • If Hana comes, maybe tell a story (OPSEC-sanitized).
  • After afterparty, rest fully until morning.
Edit: Post-changes for targetted VD.

Revert! Revert! :p

Not what I had in mind at all. You changed the "Keiko +Pangolins Brainstorm general defense strategies" portion instead of the "Talk to ISC" portion.

Theres a small chance Shika tells us to get off his lawn as far as tactics go, I don't want the whole thing sunk just because of that, hence: Pangolins + Keiko do some general brainstorming (gives us Aspects hopefully). Getting Shika to precommit to strategies would happen in the ISC portion, and the other part is a separate beast entirely.

That said, please don't optimize word count too much here. I find +0.1 FP or +1XP relatively to be a pretty paltry reward, compared to how much we need to get done, preptime wise here for us to pull off Round 2.

Alright, would it be acceptable for me to write "Get ISC to precommit to strategies (below)."? Would this work with what you're suggesting?

@faflec I had more of the following in mind. Anything that goes along with that is fine, but I think it just reads better if we put that sentence in under "Meet ISC." and then don't need to reference it twice.

I still really want to steal people's weapons, there's a plan component and everything.

It stacks our advantages, gives a strong incentive to attack us next round, and returning things shows our benevolence.

Two thoughts
  • We should talk with Shikamaru about what exactly word halves are worth.
    • Are they a stiff penalty to lose, and a modest point gain to have at the end?
      • If people can gain points from extra word halves, we have almost all the word halves. We can ensure 10 of the 16 slots go to STL.
    • Are they a crippling penalty to lose, and no point gain to have?
      • If the penalty is crippling, Hinata and co are likely out of the running. We could give them back their word halves, because I am convinced Jiraiya is being short sighted in wanting us to stomp on them. Beat them, yes, but get them in the tournament. Also, I like being nice.
  • On the one safe path, there should be a sign at one end saying "Do you feel Gutsy, Genin?"

I'm...a bit worried about this, given that ninja tools are expensive, especially seals. What do the rest of you think?

Yeah thats fine.

No to the weapon stealing. I don't really care about how this affects our politics (I think the best politicking we can possibly do henceforth is with Red Team 1), but I do have great sympathy for people who aren't able to afford to just buy all replacement gear.

Its funny sure, but way too cruel IMO.

(Also Ren may just make us return them, anyway.)

This can all be taken care of later, no?

We can deal with the bolded portion if we survive Round 2 (if so we will have a bunch of spare time.). If not, its sorta moot I feel, since we would keep it all anyway.

I am totally in favor of leaving taunting messages on our base in Round 2. I was envisioning some massive fuck-off flag with some taunts written on it or something, but stuff like this is also great.

Alright, I changed the talk with Shikamaru. Still on the fence about stealing tools and stuff, personally leaning towards NO but if enough people voice support I'll add it in. As for the taunting messages...part of me feels that's a NO for the same reason that stealing stuff is a NO but that's just me.

[X] Action Plan: Retroactive Partying

Looks good.

Taunts are an issue we can tackle later.

(Aside:I'll note that pissing off all genin is different than taunting R2 Reds. I would be orders of magnitude more pissed if someone stole all my super expensive gear (that I can barely afford in the first place!!) than if someone posted some signs calling me a sucker, or something.)

I'm not certain how much time we have after round two ends. Though I guess we should have time after we survive the initial assault.
If the initial assault hits in the first ~2 hours after they're cleared, we still have like 20 hours left in the event. We can pow-wow with Shika and deal with all of this then.

How many points would our opponents lose if we turned in their word halves?
So they "Fail Event 1" which in my opinion should be a significant loss of points, given that Event 1 is a very important component of everything.

Now some may argue that not doing well in Event 1 means you don't get to the next event, but I see the word half portion as a separate component to this.

Word halves represent secret information that needs to be kept secure. It serves the same purpose as scrolls did in Event 2 of canon Chunin Exams, except the mechanics actually make sense. I think it should be pretty bad for you if you lose or trade this away. Maybe -100 or -200 or something of that order of magnitude?

After exam idea:
So from what I've seen so far in this exam, seals are super duper expensive because they are super duper rare. What say ye as far as offering our services as a sealmaster to clanless or civilian ninja? Nothing major, just give them a few dozen or so explosive tags on the cheap. I feel this would go a long way towards addressing the clan/clanless inequality issue and is relatively inexpensive from our point of view.

I'm...a bit worried about this, given that ninja tools are expensive, especially seals. What do the rest of you think?

Consult Keiko/Noburi if there are any obvious clan related drawbacks we are missing. If they agree, take all gear except seals we don't know and stuff related to their bloodline like Wakahisa barrels. We already know the latter will be returned once the Mizukage/proctor finds out and there is a chance we might be forced to return everything if they tattle on us but that is not guaranteed.

Include talking with trusted figures about our relationship woes. Especially if our mom shows up, we would want to bond over those kinds of talks.

Is there any reason you are continually pushing for the relationship talk thing?

This can be handled later.

Our main worry is that forcing Hazou to deal with this now results in him having to deal with this now, and he has other very important things on his plate: Round 2, Finals, etc.

(I don't want Hazou going into Round 2 with any consequences from this)

I'm all for doing this over the course of the training break (we have ample time to get over it) but dealing with this now should be avoided at all cost.

Do you have an argument in support of: "Dealing with this now"?

I like it, I really do, but I think there are 100-500 clanless ninja in Leaf. A few dozen explosive tags represents a few weeks of constant effort. Unless we grind caligraphy and get seals down to one a minute, in which case it only takes a few days.
