Summons are basically highly advanced societies that developed virtual reality MMORPGs like Sword Art Online except without the gear harness.

That is also why they cannot use most seals because seal software is an ingame mechanic.

I mean, presumably Summoning Contracts are signed so that the Seventh Path nations donate some military capacity to eventually get a jonin or S-Rank ninja on their side; everyone's somewhat aware that ninja that survive and are active don't really have hard skill-caps, so anybody that the Summons can boost to a high level can do stuff for the Summons on the Human Path plus or minus any favors a jonin or S-Ranker can do on the Seventh.

The using nature chakra thing might be a really good explanation for why summons can't use seals, actually. They're designed for human chakra to activate them, and not the sort of chakra that'll be in whatever container you put them in. (Because that would be really dangerous.)

cough Sky towers cough

It is also worth noting that this is a zero-risk way (with exception of genjutsu, etc.) of getting their own warriors training.

They're able to use seals, it's just hard for them, and they are not to infuse them in the summon realm.

Quick question about summoning.

Can Keiko pull off a henge on the Pangolin's the way Naruto did with Gamabunta? I mean like how Naruto provided the disguise and hand seals, while the Gama provided the chakra.

Or could they just do it themselves?

*Rubs hands together*

And this is why I'm hoping we'll get some kind of in-story statement on the matter once we get back to Konoha, like Kagome going nuts about everyone's mysteriously missing disguise kits. It sounds all fine and good to just erase Henge and never mention it again until you realize that to the average lurker (and to future readers) it looks like an inexplicable massive plothole if not addressed.

Oh yeah, can people make clones that look like something or someone else?

Yes. They 100% can. Now to bombard the QMs with questions about these shapeshifter clones.

Hey! Hey Eaglejarl! Can shapeshifter clones be shaped into a neutron star? If you shape one into gold can you then cut a piece off them and use it to make free gold? Do shapeshifter clones get poisoned? Can you shape them into themselves but uninjured? Can you shape them into a 1nm thick / miles-long rope and then reshape them into a humanoid with a center of mass somewhere else along the rope? Can you--

GRUE: (Kubrick glare)

Uhh. Nevermind.

This reminds me, we need to restock our disguise kits.

Something, something naked blonde with clouds and whiskers.

Um...

Seal users have glitches in their memory.
Like Mari's eye color, for example.

Which has always been that color.

I wish we could have gone with a purely illusory henge post-grue. One that doesn't change anything physical except how light reflects in the area around you.

You'd only be able to disguise as forms that are pretty similar to the space you actually take up, and be careful about keeping stuff from clipping into the illusion.

Alas, it is too late for that.

Can we pursue the "people's minds have been overwritten" plot-hook when we return? I've been wanting to pursue the "Mari's eyes change colors" thing for years irl. Maybe with the grue, we'll have enough player support to pursue it instead of / while doing empire building?

I'll consider it if you have a halfway decent plan for how to follow up on it. Where do we look for more information? What experiment could we run?

Esp. when Mari won't be casting Truth Lost In the Fog again. (I would not vote to blackmail or force her to)

It doesn't have to be a complete plan or anything, just vaguely reasonable/plausible first steps.

1) Ask Kagome about it, see if he's heard of anything like it (he should be domesticated enough to not murder us for suggesting this now)
2) Have a more detailed conversation with Mari about it, bringing up specific points in time which we remember her eyes changing
3) Asking Keiko to search the Nara library for book describing memory-altering impacts of jutsu
4) Ask Jiraiya if he's noticed it, or remembers Mari's eye color at all (especially if he has physical notes of it from our time as missing-nin compared to now)

Out of character, there's also a reasonable chance that the QMs decide to put some plot hooks down so we can investigate the grue thing potentially, or at least explain away the disappearance of henge, and that may lead to other plot hooks opening up during this investigation.

Basically, the last time we brought this up, we were missing-nin with no access to resources to actually answer the question. Now we are the children of the most powerful ninja village with the most extensive library. I think it would be worth the 1 day in game to seriously research this.

Fair enough, I'd be happy to do that when we get back to Leaf.

Also, do we have a replacement for our "Henge into sheets" trick?

Skywalkers? Alternatively, we could attempt to develop parachutes, alternatively, use some Pangolin armor jutsus and set off an explosive when close to the ground to slow the impact. It's also worth noting the physics of "Henge into sheets" doesn't work, and thus I believe was quietly retconned over a year ago (I think we changed it to "just lower the Five-Seal-Barrier tower as we raised it.")

Was it? I remember something about not being able to henge into a multi-thread object like a sheet, but the easy workaround to that being henging into a sheet made out of a single continuous thread. Or was that a different henge spoon void?
