There is an incredibly easy way to stop such a thing.
I mean would throwing a flash bang and or fireworks in front really work though?

If we have either we might as well do it. If we have smoke grenades we should also set some down for cover.

Is our current load out of seals and equipment for the exam roughly unchanged from its start?

It sounds like leaving the tipserator on will be ok. I forgot it just pumps out a consistent concentration aerosol as opposed to working like an IRL smoke bomb.
Tipserators are not on/off things. They deliver their payload in a single burst. Recall that they are modified storage scrolls.

We could use a fire-log macerator. Those are specifically engineered to be fear weapons.

HPMOR said:
"Is there any way to get people not to do that?" said Harry to his teacup.

"There is indeed a certain useful spell which solves the problem.

"Harry looked up hopefully at that, and saw a cold, cold smile on the Defense Professor's face.

Then Harry got it. "I mean, besides Avada Kedavra."

On second thought, making the crowd of ninja and civilians turn around or stop is a terrible idea.

Right now, it's possible no one in the huddled masses ends up injured; if we get some of them to turn around, and some of them decide not to, and maybe some stand still, they will end up crushed.
Right. Well nothing to do about that then...
We should obviously retrieve the seal.

So, the explosive seal went off at the same time our cloud went off, and someone shouted to run into the Mansion. This almost reads like someone tracked us and had this as a prepared action for the moment we did something suspicious. I suspect any good escape plan should account for the possibility "someone is actively trying to get us caught subtly." Which nixes simple hiding strategies.

Eeeeh it doesn't seem that far fetched to opportunistically make the noise once you see everyone is in the same place. You don't have to know in advance that we'll be gathering folks together.

The timing could just be a case of both Hazou and the unknown person reacting to people starting to leave / go to the maze, so they're both prompted by Shirotsuma the Harlot.

Ok so right now this is going as optimally as it could for us , barring certain regrets that are too late to fix.

Really we just need to figure out how not to get egg on our face while firmly esconcing ourselves in the interior of the mansion.

I mean, on the bright side given the chaos that's going on I'm pretty sure everyone in the area is gonna get DQ'd.

If we end up one of the sole survivors due to this I think we owe Team Clanless (and Akane specifically) a serious apology. In fact, we might as well get started on writing that one anyway.

This is a good point. I don't think anything subtle will work out. I was toying with the idea of us stumbling out smelling vaguely of feces proclaiming we went into the restroom before the bomb went off, but that's not gonna cut it if someone's willing to detonate explosives to get us caught specifically.

Either someone from the exam has our number, or a proctor is gunning for us. (In which case we would've been DQed already probably, no?) . The third possibility is that some outside force is toying with us, in which case we're basically at the mercy of their amusement.

"You won't use this as an opportunity to destroy the entire event and make hundreds of people's hard work come to nothing."

"No, Minagawa."

"You won't turn this party into some kind of bloodbath where people have to drop out of the exam because they're too hurt to go on."

"No, Minagawa."

"You won't do anything that would make your clan leader sad."

"…No, Minagawa."

What we promised Akane. We, personally, did none of those things.

How far is Nobby? Could we just have Hazo drop a real Misterator for cover (so he can replace himself later with furniture or sneak into the group) and then capitalize on the mist by having Nobby check people's chakra levels?
There might not be enough time for that and it depends where Nobby is atm of course.

In that vein, we need the mob to spread as much as possible. doors will be a serious problem.

Yep, I don't think we should accept responsibility for someone causing a panic with an explosion. They could have done that with people inside the mansion too, and have people stampeding out, which is probably even more dangerous.

Are we interested in making sure the mansion doors are open, so people don't get smashed against it?

Meanwhile, at the other end of the grounds:

Shikamaru: (anxiously) "Was that an explosion? You didn't mention anything about explosions."
Keiko: (calmly, after a sip of ice water) "There is no need for concern. The panicked screaming indicates that the situation is proceeding according to expectations. Mine, not Hazō's."

Can we take this as canon? :p
