Clans do die out. If Mom had sib(s) they might've died earlier off-screen.
@eaglejarl @Velorien @Jackercracks What's our family status, and if the whole clan is around why are they being useless? (to mom, that is)
Hana's parents and the clan leaders first cautioned her against becoming involved with that man, then warned her more directly that her behaviour would have consequences, and finally stated flat-out that they were not going to accept him into the clan as her husband, with all that that implied.

Hana married him anyway, and was disinherited before the ceremony was over.

Later, after his father was declared MIA, the Kurosawa patriarch let Hazō know that he would be welcomed back into the clan with open arms whenever Hazō so chose - as long as he turned his back on his sinful mother in the process. Needless to say, Hazō did not so choose.

Conversations to consider having with Jiraiya.

First, if Akane wants us to:

"While we were in the Liberator camp, I was talking to this one ninja from Leaf. We kind of exchanged stories on how we got there. I'm not clear on everything he said about what happened, but he mentioned some guy named Mizuki had something to do with his leaving. Tricked him or something. I don't know if that guy's still around, but you may want to keep an eye on him."
*doesn't bother rolling deception because everyone here understands what's being said and not being said.*

Second, if there's a chance after we've requested our reward, earth jutsu or whatever:

"Jiraiya, can I talk to you about something? My mom. She's still in Mist. I'm all she had left and she probably thinks I'm dead right now. I couldn't afford to ask you to do something about it as my reward. My team needs me to be stronger, and it would have been selfish to ask for help for my mom instead. So I'm not asking you to spend any of your resources on anything. But if you have people in the area, and they ever hear that she's in trouble, and there's anything you or they could do about it, well, I'd be really grateful if she stayed safe until I can get her out."

So wait, what was so bad about our dad that made the Kurosawas excomunicate our mum for marrying him?

Your mother never told you.

...so that is where our burning youth and aptitude for righteous face punching comes from. I never would've guessed.

As a side note, I'm against revealing that we care about our mom to Jiraya. He seems nice enough but no reason to give him openings he can exploit before we can achieve something concrete by doing so. If our faces are out there as it seems, I have a feeling our mom will find out about our survival sooner or later.

Actually, blowing our cover works as a notification to Hazou's mom that he is alive.
It's a shame it also works as a notification to Mist hunter-nin.

I think, prolonged vacation away from the Land of Fire will be very good for us.

Training sealing from 0 to 10 was estimated to take 1 month if we do nothing else. I think it took us a week to go 0-4, so we're looking at another 3 weeks we'll have to spend in Iron, assuming no trouble with persuading Kagome to resume the lessons. If Jiraiya doesn't want us around here, we're gonna have a problem.

They were told to stay away from the demon child :3
Oh man, you just reminded me of the worst fanfiction I ever read.
Just then the door slammed open… a man who's face was cover in a white with a large sword on his back for some reason he didn't have any eye brows.

"A mountain bandit…" whispered Ayame.

"Well, well, pirates…" said the man, "I though something smelled awful… give me some sake…"

"Sorry we're all out…" said Makino.

"Then what are they all drinking…" said man.

"Sorry we took the last of it… here's an unopened one…" said Shanks holding out the unopened bottle.

The man punched the bottle, breaking it and spilling all of its' contents on Shanks with it.

"Look at this mess…" said Shanks picking up the shards of the broken bottle.

"You don't have to worry about it… we'll clean up…" said Ayame.

"That's quite all right…" said Shanks.

The man used his sword to knock over everything on the bar.

"If you like cleaning up clean up that mess…" said the man, who then out a wanted power "I'm Momochi Zabuza… I have a quite a high bounty on my head, 8,000,000 berries… you're a nobody… I'm leaving…" said the man known as Zabuza.

ooo

"I did… it wasn't very good… Naruto ate the other fruit that was there…" said Luffy pointing ot his little brother… who suddenly fainted.

"NARUTO!" cried the whole bar.

"What's happening ot him?" asked Luffy.

"He ate the Biju Biju Fruit, Model Kyubi… the only time the person would faint after eating would be…" said Shanks who turned his attention to the bar maids.

"Is he?" asked Shanks.

Jiraiya lifted up the unconscious boy's shirt, there was what looked like a tattoo of a spiral.

"Why didn't you tell me about this earlier… I know about the Jinchuriki…" said Jiraiya.

"The Jinchuriki?" asked Luffy confused.

"Luffy… has your brother ever been hated by the villagers?" asked Jiraiya.

For all I know the author got substantially better over the... ten years? That they have apparently been writing that for. I think it would actually be more impressive if they spent that long working on it and it didn't get better. That would take... well not skill, but something.

Edit: Having looked at chapter 318, I can say that they have not gotten significantly better. That takes... something.

Question: we seem to be assuming we should hide our sealing ability from Jiraiya, and get training from Kagome. If we do this, we eventually have sealing 10, and start using sealing in our missions right? Do we just expect Jiraiya not to notice liberal use of seals he didn't provide, do we plan on deceiving him (pretending we don't use seals or that we got them from somewhere else), or do we think there will be a substantial difference in the talk that happens when we are upfront about having sealing 4 as opposed to when we were deceptive about having sealing 10? Are we concerned he's going to stop us from accessing Kagome? Do we not trust him and want to keep an element in reserve?

I agree that we should probably ask Jiraya about introduction to Sealing, mentioning it is traditional for members of our clan, but our education was unfortunately cut short by the suicide mission.

It will allow us to level Sealing while away from Iron.

On the other hand, revealing our sealing training is somewhat risky.

Having an ace up our sleeve would be nice, but I doubt we will be able to deceive him for long. I think our best bet is to act as though it is nothing special once we have sealing 10 from Kagome. If pressed, we can say "Well my clan has a history of seal masters. This doesn't make me special."

If Jiraiya wants to have us pursue our sealing with him, fine, but I don't want to draw attention to it if we don't have to. Who's to say how long it will take us to develop a custom seal we can use in combat anyway? Until then we just have an unusually large supply of explosive tags and storage seals; nothing too suspicious about that as opposed to someone deducing one of our team is a seal user/master.

Omake: Who's Your Teacher?
"So..."

"So?"

"Who's teaching you sealing?"

"What makes you say that?"

"You can make seals."

"I can."

"And you're getting better at it."

"I hadn't noticed."

"And you haven't been eaten by a shoggoth yet."

"I'm pretty lucky, I guess."

"Look kid, I can tell when someone's self-taught. They tend to have an odd number of limbs."

"Err..."

"Five, more often than you'd think."

"Uh... Huh..."

"So...?"

"Okay, fine! Yes, I have a teacher!"

"And they are...?"

"More comfortable in anonymity."

"Ah."

"..."

(drops henge, reveals self to be Kagome)

"Really?"

"You can never be too careful. Anyone might sell you out. Anyone! CONSTANT VIGILANCE!"

To someone else, yes, it won't be suspicious if we use explosive seals (I think). To the person responsible for providing us with weapons, it will be highly suspicious if we suddenly use tons and tons of exploding seals which they didn't provide us.

I do like not revealing it, since it gives us an edge if Jiraiya's playing us, I just want a clear exit strategy. Going with a non-pulsed "yeah, so?" May or may not work. I think another relevant concern is that if it will take 3 weeks to get sealing up to 10, it may mean Iron is sort of a (bigger) hellhole by that time, so we might be called away on a mission partway through training, or invaded while training, or told we shouldn't stay in Iron, especially if Jiraiya doesn't have a strong reason to keep us there (since, you know, the liberators are looking for us, and they'll do their best looking in Iron).

I'm pretty concerned about spending a further 3 weeks in Iron as well. We may be best off to get training from him, though that might count as our favor... It'd be a valid one, though, I think one we should discuss with our team first.

Since the deadline is coming up in a bit, I'm gonna put some possible votes up.

[ ] Ask for personal Sealing Training. If he asks for the identity of your first teacher, tell him that that person would want to remain anonymous.

I suspect that Jiraiya is at least aware of Yagome, if he's been tracking our movements since Hidden Swamp. Unless we abandon sealing, we probably won't be able to hide our Sealing knowledge from him, and he will know that someone taught us. Best case: He agrees to teach us whenever he's meeting with us, or even sets aside a little time. Getting training from the best sealmaster in the world is invaluable. Good Case: He arranges for another teacher. Worst Case: He refuses, for either our safety, lack of trust, no available teachers other than his valuable time, etc. Then we grab a different reward.

[ ] Ask for information regarding summoning contracts and how to obtain one.

Inoue thinks he may be willing to give us at least hints. Regardless of who will eventually get one, this can be very useful information.

[ ] Ask for leads on where we can find people who can/would be willing to train us in things outside Inoue's expertise, like Earth/Fire Jutsu, Medical Ninjutsu, Technique Development, Sealing, etc.

Will open up a ton of options for the group's future development. Yuni taught us that we can gain an appreciable size of money given time, and we are blank factories, so we can get tutors.

[ ] Ask for teaching for Hiding-Like-A-Mole Jutsu.

More immediate and guaranteed boon, woth a less major benefit.

What is this? One line plans? Have we no honor? Can we not at least make it a paragraph? I don't understand!?!?
