I suggest not burrowing any further down this rabbit hole unless we want to run headlong into "deontology vs consequentialism 2: electric boogaloo". Because that is exactly where this discussion is headed.

What were your reasons, then? Also, how'd Minami die?
(I think I wouldn't have left if there hadn't been unrepentant protagonism-theft. I get that surviving the fight with all teammates uninjured was hard to turn down, but we didn't earn it, and the price was too large.)
I don't think this is going to contribute anymore to the thread, and politely ask you to stop. Since it seems that you haven't caught up with the thread, might I ask you to continue reading so that you can involve yourself in discussing our current situation, specifically:
  • How to build the fort/trap surrounding area.
  • How to react to ninjas coming to trade.
  • How to react to ninjas coming to fight.
  • Interactions between our team and allied teams (Team Akane, Team Guy, Team Asuma).
  • What Pangolins we should get (max 4).
  • What Pangolin jutsu we should get (max 1).

What do you guys think about this for our 4 remaining Pangolins:
  • Communications Pangolin: Must have Pangolin Telepathy jutsu for team/multi-team wide communication.
  • Artillery Pangolin: Specializes in long-ranged AOE, and should have non-lethal versions (e.g., electroshock-KO).
  • Defensive Pangolin: Wields multiple jutsu capable of protecting allies.
  • Buffing Pangolin: Uses ninjutsu (e.g., Defend the Log) to increase allied and/or decrease enemy skills.

It seems like a lot of our concerns about the fort involve escape. Maybe a pangolin that aids with that, or this set if we think they can obviate that need entirely? Could try and get a buffing pangolin with speed-enhancing jutsu maybe.

Also, we should talk our defenses over with the rest of the genin and see if they can help us improve it. As much as that might seem like shoving it off onto the QMs, it would be silly not to check if they have any ideas to improve the defenses.

I agree. I wonder if the QMs would like it better if we gave the other characters specific questions, though with the assumption that we're still interested in their other advice. That seems less offload-y, requires/incentivizes specific plans ("Nara, should we cover the escape route with X or Y?" "Neji, what's a good hidden rendezvous point?"), and allows the other characters to call us idiots for asking about X while neglecting Y. #FatePoints, baby.

(Disclaimer: I have no idea how earning Fate Points works.)

I think the first thing we should do is explain to the other teams the seals we have available and are willing to share with them (Air Domes, Earth Domes, practice explosives for Tenten, 5SB, etc.), see if they have any ideas for what to do with them.

Buffing Pangolin should cover escape, Protect the Log buffs TacMove/Athletics IIRC and they should have more than just that. I'd imagine that between that, our traps, and our actual skills we should be fine to retreat.

There's only so much chakra to go around. We can't have *that* many out.

So any timeframe on when we might get back to the chunin exams story? Not that I don't enjoy the various interludes and appreciate the effort to establish coherent worldbuilding/rules mind you.

Hm... as for what to do when approached for trade, just have them drop their seals a distance away, and then we can toss ours back? Or make a clone and substitute out to get it?... nah, too expensive.

Also, we should talk our defenses over with the rest of the genin and see if they can help us improve it. As much as that might seem like shoving it off onto the QMs, it would be silly not to check if they have any ideas to improve the defenses.

I guess we could just have enough zones of traps between us and outside that people can't toss seals in?

We may be overthinking this, I admit. If you look back before the retcon, it was narrated through as, "some teams come by, trade seals, and then leave". Like, maybe it's just not worth wasting wordcount on.

...I can't tell if you're joking, but if you are then you might be misleading toxinvictory.

My understanding is that no shit, we are ready to go if the players can just come up with a plan.
I'd tend to disagree. We still need information on:
  • MEW.
  • Vacuum Step.
  • Syrup Trap.
  • Pantokrator's Hammer.
  • Keiko's 4 other Pangolins.
  • Our 5th Pangolin jutsu.
  • 5SB limitation specifics.
We also have a bit more than 12 hours before the next voting cycle, and that is not enough time to make a plan, fix any of the many issues that always show up in literally any plan, and have it pass with full hivemind approval.

Speaking of voting...

[X] The Death of Hiruzen Sarutobi
[X] Team Uplift vs. Team Guy
[X] Leaf Rookies 1v1 Sparring

Could you do it if you wanted to, though?

I think the thread may have just lost the knack. Decision paralysis. Unable to continue the quest. The QMs have said that they are willing to go on if a plan is voted in, but there's genuine fear about doing so. As long as nobody votes in a plan, nobody dies. Perfect safety forever.

...I am literally in the process of making a plan. I've already written a module for making the fort. And posted it. And gotten feedback.

And then there's the fact that I've been pushing the hivemind to actually...well...talk. About it.

Whateley brandished his tome.

"Darkness."

A huge hemisphere of pure black coalesced from thin air, encasing the charging goblins. There was a cacophony of dismayed screeching and the sounds of goblins tripping over and running into things.

"Devil's Sight."

A third eye, drawn in the pulsating blue light of the Hive Mind's power, appeared on Whateley's brow as if it had always been there.

"Eldritch Blast! Eldritch Blast! Eldritch Blast! Eldritch Blast!"

Holy Jashin on a stick, I know I haven't been here in a while but y'all need to stop stalking me.

This is exactly how I play a warlock early on in a campaign.

There are so many similarities it's scary.

There's a bunch of ways you could define morally good which are not consequentialist (just as there are also a bunch of ways to define morally good as a consequentialist). Don't say it Kant be done.
Bah, that's just consequentialism by a confused person. As soon as you say "we should hold this ethical framework because it has properties I like", you have assumed consequentialism and then convinced yourself you haven't.

Sunday's update, hooooooopefully

As soon as you say "we should hold this ethical framework because it has properties I like", you have assumed consequentialism and then convinced yourself you haven't.
Eh, only if the properties are related to outcomes, right?
