I don't think that researching seals is a good idea at all here.
I mean, researching seals means making them. And making them means possibility of seal failure. You know, portals to hellish dimensions and all that.
Now imagine a random ninja noticing such a seal failure, or just research in general.
Will they care about some fancy bodyguard flag? No! We are researching seals here, not bodyguarding!
Now imagine that we escaped after a somewhat visible sealing failure. Where will we get Minami? We were supposed to stay in one place, not make trouble.
Imagine her coming back, Cthulhu just getting a tan, none of our team in sight.

...Unless we are just finding new uses for macerators. Or the chance of sealing failure being astronomically low (is it low for the beginner seals, compared to our actual research?)

By the way- as bodyguards, aren't we supposed to actually accompany the VIP?
Isn't the visitor in biggest danger when visiting the city? Is it normal for bodyguards to stay more than kunai's throw away from their client?

For the Nara seals, I think it might be better to work with Keiko to think about the actual purpose of the seals. I mean, obviously they make a variety of chime sounds, but we need to look underneath the underneath - what kind of thought exercise are the Nara trying to teach their young sealmasters in training?

We're bodyguards to and from her destination -- staying here and letting them guard her is a sign we trust our great ally, Suna. :p
The beginner seals are designed for people who have 1 dice in sealing to do safely. So yes there safe for us to do.
1 die post-TGR, even. So yeah.

Actually, I think it might be like that to get young sealmasters experience working with variations on seals. The Nara strike me as the type to have cottoned onto the simple fact of sealing that you're much more capable of creating variants on a seal than outright new ones, and they want to drive that home early so their sealmasters don't die.

...on that note we should totes find some other Nara sealmasters of our level to hang out with when we get back.

I don't care if it's in character; having NPCs mock decisions the thread made and talk about how stupid we are kind of pisses me off.

Can we make a plan where we mock mistakes the QMs made and talk about how stuuupid some thing an NPC did (that was actually supposed to be sensible) was?

It would be good to have a more direct and comprehensive critique of our plans from QMs.
You know, from time to time, so that we'll have more to go from rather than NPCs making fun of our plans and XP awards being poor.

From the player doc

A Guide to a Good Plan

If you come up with a good plan that gets you out of there scot-free then yes, I would grant some extra XP. Although there isn't an exact formula, some of the things that I use to assign XP are:

  1. Is the plan well-written? Does it make my life easy when I'm trying to write for it?
  2. Is it thorough? Did the players really put a lot of thought in?
  3. Is it clever? Does it do something sophisticated, munchkinly, funny, etc?
  4. Is it active? Does it have the team going out and doing stuff as opposed to passively waiting for stuff to happen?
  5. Is it brave? Did the players take a calculated risk that will make for an exciting story?
  6. Does it advance the plot? A plan that says "go look in the window and see if there's traps" will get very few XP, while a plan that says "sneak into the enemy fortress and steal the secret plans" will get a lot.
There's other things, but those are some of the most important. And, I'll be perfectly frank, there's also a large component of "am I in a good mood?", since all of the above factors are very subjective.

so our last plan really only hit 1 of the bullet points. Thus low exp

I thoroughly suggest we finally get around to training using macerator-rings -- in lieu of explosive rings because we probably don't want to explode things.

Diplomacy training while Minami is in Sand is something productive we can do that isn't likely to bite us in the ass somehow. We desperately need to avoid making this type of mistake, and now that Hazou has more agency this is a way to do that.

I just had a wonderful (and hilarious) seal idea which has a few uses.

Storage seal (and later, Macerator) with the single-object-delimitter removed. It instead stores everything in front of it up to the mass/volume limits it has (excepting chakra-rich materials, seals, etc). Great for tunneling and blocking techniques or weapons dependent on physical mass.

...also great for disarming (and disrobing) enemies.

e: What's especially great about this is that it keeps to Hazou's storage-seal specialty (Kagome noted this in a [far] earlier chapter, actually) and it's such a Hazou solution :p

Here's a proto-plan for the next update. It's got a fuckton of holes in it because I'm shit at social skills, but it should be a good base once polished.

  • General:
    • Stay under Henge. We are all (former) missing-nin and should any scouts see our position and decide to knock without our noticing they'll see our faces. And that would be bad.
      • Under our Henge, have face-concealing masks that keep our facial features hidden.
    • Keep constant watches, especially above us for Sand's gliders.
  • Discuss the Mist Drain Situation.
    • Minami knows Noburi's ace-in-the-hole, and has the ability to use this as leverage against Jiraiya's clan.
    • What systems exist to handle situations like this?
  • Talk with the rest of the team.
    • Keiko: Discuss learning a medium-ranged weapon specialty when we return to Konoha.
    • Noburi: Discuss possible avenues of research for when we return to Konoha (or even before); let him mull them over.
    • Kagome: Discuss the method we used to escape the Mountain-nin cave (specifically, using Force Walls to direct an explosion). Ask if it's possible for us to develop combat weapons around this.
  • Research & Training:
    • Study some seals (Don't reverse-engineer the seals if we need a research lab to do it):
      • Basic seals from the Nara Library.
      • Party trick seals from Jiraiya.
      • Mountain-nin seals.
    • Ask Noburi/Keiko for some Diplomacy training, since we clearly need help with our mouth.
    • Do some basic training with the Seal Rings & Macerators, such that we can use them in combat.

We could always research extra large storages seals so Noburi can just flood the battle field with water

I had a sealing idea.

Would it be possible to change the holding capacity of a seal after its been filled?

So could we seal 100 cubic meters of sand into a tag, and then make said tag shrink it's holding capacity to only 5 cubic meters.

The idea would then be to open it back up and shoot a fire-hose of molten glass at somebody.

Mmn, not the way you put it -- changing a seal after its made and infused is a recipe for death -- but we could definitely make a storage seal that compacts its contents.

Smarter to finish party trick seals that Jiriyia gave us since we have notes from him.

Lol. Exactly what Hazō needs another exp sink.
Keiko: Discuss learning a medium-ranged weapon specialty when we return to Konoha.
Probably should look into getting her a combat style that works around her bloodline. We can start developing that now instead of having to wait to get back to leaf.

As for kagome ask for his opinion about guns.

As for Akane just have a picnic. Get some chocolate from kagome and boom romance

Will add them both, let Hazou decide since I'm not 100% which has a lower TN.

This is, uh...not an invite to actually spend XP on Diplomacy. It's like that time we asked Mari-sensei for help, but didn't spend XP on social. It's a filler thing that helps them realize we're trying to fix the problem and hopefully lets the GMs be gracious to us with regards to plan-based fuckups.

This looks like the sort of thing that we-the-hivemind have to make, not we-the-Hazou. I dunno.

Clarification: Does Hazou know about guns and gun types? I mean, this might just be ignored due to lack of knowledge...

We're in a tiny hill in the Land of Wind, I think (not 100% since it's not stated outright) we're in the desert? Desert picnics don't seem romantic to me because the sand just gets everywhere.

I hate sand.

We now know that Minami can use jutsus with/through her Prisma, something she hasn't told us in the beginning. It probably is also a trump card , so we are kinda balanced right now. We can develop anti-Minami stuff and she (and in theory her clan) can make anti-Wakahisa stuff. Maybe trying to improve our relationship with her would make her less likely to tell her clan (ignoring that she would probably tell her clan if we or Jiraiya are a danger to them).

Maybe we can start the whole 'make seals for Minami so she forgives us' thing Kagome want's to do? Brainstorming some ideas?

Also need to do Seal Ring training.

Should we really do training like this while being in Wind? The whole ring thing is supposed to be a secret so 'stinker don't see it coming'. What happened to constant vigilance?

We can make our MEW fortress big enough to make a training area inside. For all the world using macerators will look like someone using a basic earth element technique.

I kinda forgot we can do this inside.

But now I am worried about red granit walls + 5 people inside, 4 kids and a crazy seal master. We might as well put a sign up saying 'Cold Stone killers-Inside'.

It's less forgiveness I'm worried about, and more "please don't tell your clan about our extremely secret clan technique".

That's what I mean, if our clan helps her personally to get more powerful without any kind of drawback for the Minami and all she has to do is keep one simple secret, why would she endanger this relationship? All we have to do is abuse the power of friendship. (I am only half kidding here).
