@Kiba If you want an excuse to create energy-producing machines ask Kagome what a windmill is, since he's apparently seen one. That's an excuse to make seals that replicate the effects, and transition them into other methods of energy generation.

I mean, it doesn't have to be sealwork. There's a cost involved to getting a consistent supply of propulsion seals and if we're just starting with rudimentary electricity generation we could just make a water wheel generating electricity from only real world physics. Especially since we don't yet have anything to use electricity for, we'd want to minimize the upkeep of the generator.

I thought the point of making the effectivelyfreeenergy seal is to prove it's doable, and give a rapid "proof-of-concept" list of useful applications.

Using wheels plus gears to power a machine, with people, animals, water, or wind to turn the wheel, is pretty ancient technology and I can't imagine Hazou hasn't been exposed to it. Off the top of my head, they were used to grind grains and pump water or bellows (Amatetsu's mighty Thousand-Yams Furnace in Mist very well might use one).

From there, Hazou just needs a way to turn the wheel, but impulse seals applied to the spokes will do that.

Come to think of it, Leaf might want to use the island as the testing ground for the airship instead of doing it in the Land of Fire, which is probably practically crawling with spies.

Oh god I just had a horrifying thought.

Sealmaster's Bane: A seal whose purpose is to activate all seals within X range.

I wonder if some aspiring but stupid sealmaster invented that seal before they ran off to Uzu?

Maybe that's why they all disappeared, the seal was activated right before the fighting began and Uzu imploded into itself as incomplete/faulty seals all activated.

This thread has the highest concentration of good-at-math people of all places I have access to, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, so.

As part of a defensive trap, a 600mm diameter pipeline carries water under a head of 30m with a velocity of 93m/s. This water main is fitted with a horizontal bend which turns the axis of the pipeline through 75 (i.e. the internal angle at the bend is 105). Calculate the resultant force on the bend and its angle to the horizontal.

Halp?

There's more where that came from, if any of y'all would like a sealing break?

Just to confirm: can anyone point to a specific failure in CounterBot during either the last voting period or the one I posted last night? This is important, folks; the voting closes in 21 hours and CounterBot will select the winners. You want it to be right. (And also based on the popular vote!)

IIRC the problem was with the SV's vote tally, not CounterBot's. Though I could be wrong.

Either way, I can do a manual vote tally if it really comes down to it.

So, it seems like improving skywalkers is a huge thing we can do to improve our value to Leaf. The other low hanging fruit I see is having a quality position on Mountain. I think this means we should have Kagome stay on the island and research improved skywalkers, and have the team go to Tea in order to get information on both the current political climate, and, eventually, Mountain. Obviously, we cannot carry out this entire operation in one update, but this action plan should give us a good start. Future steps would be actually infiltrating the town we're observing and finding out more information (especially re: maritime trade if the town knows about it, global tensions they are aware of, any rumors they've heard (which hopefully would include Mountain), and where a good place to get a telescope would be).

Edit: feel free to suggest improvements or copy past into your own plan. A primary purpose of this plan is to provide an option for all the people who want to actually do something.

[X] Action Plan: Information Gathering Ops

With decisions made, let's make progress on our goals, taking actions which will help us negotiate with Leaf better. This means improving skywalkers (Kagome), gathering current information on the world, and finding out about the situation in Mountain.

Methods:
  1. Coordinate efforts with the other genin to attempt to henge into lenses and/or mirrors such that we can make a basic telescope, preferably using clones
    1. Because extending our sight from skyplatforms is important
  2. Work on improving skywalkers
    1. Start by making wooden inserts to quickly replace the seals when they run out, and keep moisture away from them
    2. Look at making a leather case to keep moisture away from the seals
    3. Have Kagome stay on the island and work on improving the skywalkers (likely by extending their lifespan)
    4. Try to get a second version ready for the rest of the team's excursion into Tea wthin the next week
  3. Determine if we can use Pangolin Summoning some way to maintain some form of communication with Kagome.
  4. While waiting for skywalkers V 2.0, work for Noburi on whatever mad science seal he wants (assuming it's within our capabilities)
    1. If Noburi has no seals he wants and Kagome thinks they're within his capabilities, work on sound amplification seals (seals to help observations from miles in the sky)
    2. If Noburi has no seals he wants and Kagome doesn't think we can handle sound amplification seals, research cooling seals (cool surroundings, turn water into ice)
  5. After Kagome has made a second version of the skywalkers Have Mari, Keiko, Noburi, and Hazou go to Tea in order to gather information on the current political situation, acquire a telescope (if henge/clone doesn't work out), observe Mountain, and probably acquire more paper.
    1. Use skywalkers and skybases to get to the western coast of the Tea Pennensula. Once there, establish a sky-base far above the coast in the middle of nowhere for a base of operations: keep watch for sky-squids and ask Kagome all he knows about how best to defeat/repel them before we leave.
  6. Begin a basic infiltration of a small nobody town in Tea
    1. Don't use skywalkers or sky bases near the town (though keep skywalkers in our shoes in case of emergency)
    2. Begin by observing the town from afar (does it keep a guard? How many people live there? Does it get many visitors? Do the people look wealthy? What sorts of jobs or occupations are most likely to fit in?)
    3. After initial recon, retreat to our skybase to plan out a method of further infiltration or informational gathering

@Radvic I feel against the idea of leaving an island in the middle of nowhere (read: where we are 100% safe) to go checking on Tea before we improve Skywalkers. I would feel much safer completing research-based low-hanging fruit (Skywalkers, telescope-Henge, etc.) before we all go to Tea, make a secure base, and then scout out Mountain again.

The last thing I would want to see is the five of us leave right as Zabuza appears in Tea.

I agree, but also want us to do stuff, and feel like we aren't appropriately considering the cost of time. That's why I have Kagome staying and researching in this update. I could add something in about asking him how long he thinks it would take to improve skywalker longevity, and maybe getting our Noburi seal research out of the way during that time if that would help? I mostly want to provide a voting option which will actually lead to the team doing something productive that isn't just research (there seem to be plenty of "just research" plans out right now).

Request: What is the cost of time?

How about we not split the party? Kagome is the only one who can make new skywalkers, so if the team loses theirs for any reason they'd want to have him around to infuse more.

I am assuming you tested it already on the same vote set OliWhail used it for? He'd be the one to ask. I don't think anyone else used it at that time. One explanation would be that certain pages failed to load properly for him while it was running? I don't know how many he times he tried, but it was at least 2. Also, have you run it with it going over an SV inserted tally?

There is a tally on 1924 iirc

Request: What is the cost of time?
Mostly events proceeding without us and things we currently take for granted as "the state of the world" changing. This includes (to varying impact to us):

  1. Leaf's skyplatforms remaining secret
  2. Mountain being generally for us
  3. Hana dying
  4. Leaf and Mist not being at war
  5. Leaf not coming up with an independent method of flight (now that they have stronger incentive to do so and an example of something working roughly)
  6. Jiraiya dying
  7. Akane dying
  8. Somebody using nuclear scale weapons to devastate civilization
  9. Akane being brainwashed for us instead of for Leaf
  10. The usefulness of Mari's information on Mist
  11. An unknown threat (e.g. Naruto villians) from causing massive harm to the world
  12. Jiraiya's displeasure at how long it took us to contact him
  13. Akane's sadness at not hearing anything from us
Like, if this were a novel, I wouldn't be concerned about those things, because it is an unsatisfying narrative for the heroes to be gone during the 2 day devastating war leading to the extinction of humanity, but I don't think that's how this story works.
