You know, we should teach Kagome macerators (not that it's all that different from a regular storage seal, as of now...). It strikes me that tinkering with their stress levels could be relaxing for him in the same way that writing out explosive seals is. And, you know, super productive for us as a team.

(Also, he really needed to figure out a way to wreak horrific vengeance on Inoue-sensei for tagging his brilliant invention with the silly name 'misterator'.)
Better than "masturator".

Does the frozen skein give Keiko bonuses to tracking a ballistic trajectory and raining kunai in the landing zone?
I'm starting to think that going in with a salvo of explosive seals first isn't a bad idea. Her fat stores most likely have a defensive function along with their apparent offensive capabilities. We don't care too much about crippling her legs, right? Her load out synergizes poorly with the transformation jutsu and clones. It's prudent to assume at least one of these things is still high for situations where she's naked. Thinking along tropey lines makes me fear that she'll only be more powerful after she's used up that shell. Are there any other things we can deduce from all of the 2 things we've seen her do so far?
I third this idea. We have to keep the pressure on. Multiple explosions going off close, but not too close, can stun, distract, and disorient, disrupting whatever preparations she's making as we speak. We might end up destroying her head, perhaps, but it's unlikely.

Exploding vs simply cracking, I think. With glass you get shards of glass traveling pretty fast, with a PRD you get whatever velocity the tag is moving + expelling at PLUS a shrapnel grenade effect.
I don't think that would work: the glass is pulverized, not shattered, so it's likely to be about as damaging as being hit with very fine sand or coal dust: irritating if inhaled or gets in the eyes, but not actually damaging. Notice that in the video, the participants are holding the exploding glass with their bare hands.

Yeah, that's fair, but I brought up the idea because it's something that we might be able to abuse somehow (and because I had just finished watching the video, ahah...), and I was halfway hoping it would give someone some insane idea on the level of Hidden Heaven. Hm, maybe as a toxin delivery method...?

@eaglejarl @Velorien How chunky salsa would Arikada (or anyone else be) be on an A failure for tac move against explosives? What about B? C they'd be dead or damned-well-should-be, I know. This will inform our approach for explosives against her.

A quick note about the title of the update (which is now threadmarked and Story-Only'd): It was originally intended to refer to Arikada. I had this brilliant capture and banter scene in mind, but I didn't get to it.

Given that the context is missing I wanted to be sure that no one thought it was referring to the thread. Also, since it no longer matches anything in the update itself, I've changed it to "Chapter 80: Horrible Heights and Amazing Ambush".

For anyone thinking about using explosives:
He wants her alive and unmaimed -- ie, all bits attached and functional, all damage must be able to self-heal with only minimal intervention. Bruises, minor cuts, some soft-tissue damage, maybe a broken bone that isn't the spine / skull are all okay but nothing beyond that. Failing that he literally wants her head, in a recognizable state. Complete body would obviously be better.
If we don't want the reward, fine let's go full boom splat. If we want the reward we can't use explosives, period.

Now you've posted that chapter twice in the Story Only. You actually did pit it in both threads earlier when you changed the title, and now you've repeated it.

The XP gained is kinda odd, what is !@#?

I think it's a "we're not giving you XP until the fight's over" or something like that.

God, this update has been a nightmare of half-assed scrambling while distracted, and I'm STILL doing it. I've fixed those issues, but not had a chance to really go through it thoroughly.

You got 13 XP. !@# is just the marker I use in my template to mean "put XP here".

[] Action plan: eaglejarl's capture scene

Proto-Action Plan: The Source Of Shame
Yeah, this is just an outline of a plan we could do to take down Arikada.

Goals:
  1. Survive.
  2. Get to Arikada.
  3. Defeat Arikada.
Methods:
  1. Get to Arikada.
    1. Tactical Movement North. Full chakra boost.
    2. Vampiric Dew to get Arikada's exact position.
    3. Stay out of LOS.
    4. Don't charge directly forward like a pack of lemmings. Fan out to avoid getting boomsplat, and to keep her from escaping.
  2. Defeat Arikada.
    1. Water Clones use Taijutsu and Water Whip to keep Arikada busy, and to bait any traps out of her. Syrup Trap if plausible.
    2. Keiko throws kunai with ninja wire, nonlethal only. If she sticks her through with a wired kunai it opens Inoue to use her Raiton paralysis jutsu, and/or otherwise tie her up. Paralytic payload only if she's guaranteed the shot.
    3. Inoue and Noburi Syrup Trap her. Noburi uses Vampiric Dew whenever he can (which should be always).
    4. Akane & Kagome focuses on misterator spam since his explosives are less helpful here. Make sure Arikada is always in mist for VD drain.
    5. Hazou sets up MEW as an anti-escape tool. Large walls blocking Arikada's escape path fucks her Tactical Movement and limits her ability to dodge our attacks.
  3. tl;dr
    1. Get to Arikada without getting hit.
    2. Water Clones stall Arikada while we Syrup Trap her, then VD + paralytic payload to KO her.

Try and see if we can pretend to herd her towards the town so that she thinks she is walking into a trap and does not head into town.

I do think that Explosives should be used to restrict her movements. Just fill the air above and behind her with explosions so she can't retreat again. Given her less-than-sane reactions, it probably won't Shock And Awe her, but maybe at least overwhelm her a little bit.

Also, should we make it clear that we don't have to capture her? We've indicated that we're going for capture to her, and it might make her less cautious. She's already fairly afraid of us, and if we're like "stand in the mist, or get fucked", she might go for it. Not likely, but maybe. Keiko probably has the best Intimidation.

That means we have a chance, right?
Also, if we submit a plan with no changes, we'll be locked into the future that involves capturing us (with witty banter)...right?

I mean... Could we vote for this? Ask Velorien to write our triumphant march to Hidden Leaf, ending the update with Jiraiya asking us to explain how we did it, then go to a flashback for EJ's next chapter? :D
Jiraiya stared contemplatively at the urn. To think that there was so little ash left they didn't even need two...

If only we had our pokeball Seal figured out, we could chucked the paralytic at her (to cause paralysis) and throw a few kunai (to get some damage done) and then thrown the pokeball. Depending on her capture rate we may have only needed a few pokeballs to 'capture' her!

Remember to press 'B' as many times as you can.

@eaglejarl @Velorien do we have codes from Jiraiya to get Leaf border patrols not to bother us?

I think we need to talk more about how to find and catch up to her.

There are basically three things she can do once she lands (assuming she can't freely maneuver while in air and the thud wasn't just a distraction.)
  1. Start running immediately
  2. Set up a surprise for us
  3. Hide with Transformation or other jutsu, like burrowing
The one we need to immediately eliminate is 2), and the best way to do that is to not give her time to setup. Meaning we need to rush in really fast, trying to go in slowly or sending clones first will just give her more time to slap seals around, prep her body, or whatever it is that she needs to do. Options for that are Wind Wall boosted run or @OliWhail's PMYF thing. The other option would be to save the movement boosts for when we have proper visuals on Arikada.

If she starts running, we just need to keep our eyes on her and chase her. We are in open plains so I don't think there's much to block our vision. Nevertheless, when we move 100 meters, she can also move 100 meters Meaning we need to fan out a bit in pairs, one pair in goes straight and others follow 30? meters to the side to make sure she doesn't escape to the sides. Every pair needs someone with at least acceptable Awareness, so the best lineup would be Hazou + Noburi, Kagome + Keiko, Inoue + Akane.

Then we just herd her in and force a confrontation. More on that in a moment.

How far has the mist spread? How fat are Arikada's arms (and other body parts like her torso and head)?
About a 100m diameter, but you've used up all your misterator seals.

is MEW line-of-sight castable, and does Hazou need to be within a certain distance of the ground to use it?
10m range per level, capped by LOS.

Are there bits of [Arikada's legs] left behind, which we should immediately run the hell away from since they'll probably explode or dissolve into chakra-eating bacteria?
Yes, there are. Quite a lot -- about what you would expect to see if you put a pair of human legs at ground zero for an exploding tag or five. No comment on interesting things happening if you stay near them.

How long did the fight last? Is she still in the mist, and if so did Noburi get an idea about how long it would take to drain her?
Around 15 seconds. Arikada has jumped beyond the range of the mist, and she was never close enough for Noburi to get a feel for her chakra.

Do we get stuff on Arikada's rolls? It wasn't in the update and I wasn't sure if was left out accidentally or not.
,
You do not. The boss is immune to your scan ability.

Have any of the team ever heard of the germ theory of disease?
Nope.

Mechanically, same as any other attack -- A => -1 die, B => -3 die, C => dead.
In in-game terms, we're talking light burns, severe injury requiring medical treatment, and scattered all over the landscape respectively.
