@eaglejarl, @Velorien: Huh, can we get Nobby some mednin/medknow levels in the time we spent in Iron?
Nope. I'm not sure there was enough time, but either way you didn't vote for it.

Can we get info on her Summoning Level and other relevant abilities?

Also, Keiko described the plan between her and Panchiipama as a theft against a non-ninja organization. Did we (the hivemind) actually plan to do that, because I honestly do not recall it.

From the plan:

Remind Keiko to sell the "adventure" part of the idea, we are looking partners for a cunning heist, not just boring business as usual (although there are probably profits to be made out of the stuff)

Wait.

I thought Noburi couldn't drain plants?

Did that change because he got more VD levels?
He has always been able to sense them -- he mistakenly identified a patch of kelp as a water bug the first time you were in Iron. He just can't drain anything meaningful from them.

To be fair, that was part of the "get money from the pangolins for drug trade" idea, but I was pretty happy to see it used in the update anyway.

Right, but the "heist" being done is kidnapping a powerful ninja and her bodyguards, not robbing a non-ninja organization. So...?

Man, everyone is a critic these days. You should've given this feedback during the planning phase. :p

In hindsight I should've probably used some other word instead of "heist" but it was a rushed plan and you can't really win them all.

Edit: Mari veto'd the whole "bulk purchase of Izanai Red" plan so I think this is where the confusion is.
Yeah, I'm slightly concerned with the way Keiko sold it to her, too, because I don't want it to turn out to have been a lie or anything.

(why do Pangolin names have to be so gender-neutral, it's hard for me to remember who's male and who's female... although, that's probably how they feel about human names too, so.)

Could we also prep the area where we would like the confrontation to go down? We should get Noburi to pick the location where he is strongest around the town or list a few areas where he would feel best confronting a Seal Master who might or might not be traveling with ninja guards.

Instead of a seal for the bandits to activate how about some loud noise maker. Could we pay a bandit to set off a flare if he sees our target/gets into a fight with some ninja, or otherwise convince or implant the instructions via genjutsu. I'll take what ever is most practical but this is tertiary to having the bandits patrol roads or areas we do not want to have our Seal Master travel down and having bandits in certain areas would be something of a deterrent for choosing that area to get into town. The same with the bunkers that we would put up around the town that we are having Kagome supervise the building of. Kagome would know best the kinds of signs and environmental factors it would take to herd the type of Paranoid Seal Master in a certain direction if they are heading into a town for what ever reason.

What benefits does this have compared to just throwing a kunai with a macerator seal high in the air?
Square lanterns clearly have room for 4 macerator seals compared to 1 per kunai. So the coverage is likely better and more reliable.
They can potentially be triggered by mechanical traps, to act as a proximity detection scheme. Individually they are likely easier to destroy before they activate, but they are simple enough to be produced in large quantities.

They can work in situations where the enemy blunders into the ambush, but I doubt they are useful for a raid on an enemy position.

I didn't mind it. Mari (i.e., the GMs) veto'd it. So now I have to reconcile Keiko's actions with Mari's actions, which contradict each other. Unless Mari veto'd the plan after Keiko left???

You could just throw three more kunai if you need more macerator seals. Or if we are preparing stuff beforehand maybe make a discus that holds at least one on each side? It would have better aerodynamics than a kunai + tag for sure.

The lanterns are also really slow, so we would need to know exactly where the fight is going to happen and have the time to prep them.

Only way I can see the lanterns being better than thrown seals is as a part of a big trap field contraption where they are launched automatically through triggers or timers. It would basically let you synchronize the mist spread on a wider area to make sure the enemies can't just run out of it. How to do this for an area big enough to be relevant at ninja speeds is not immediately apparent at least to me.

One way to improve the lanterns would be to have them trigger the multiple macerators in a series, ensuring that there is a good coverage for the target area for a longer period of time. This introduces other problems however, for example how to make sure that the not-triggered seals or the lantern itself doesn't get wet from the mist.

So if we want to use the lanterns we need an area prepared for their use. This leads us to the real problem, how are we going to spot Arakida when she comes around and how are we going to force her to fight where we want her to fight? That's the real problem we need to solve here if we want to fight her before she makes it to Sarubetsu.

The immediate answer would be for us to dress up as Sound hunter-nin and pretend we spotted/recognized her as a missing-nin, and proceed to hound her towards our ambush site. OFC that has the obvious problem of starting an actual fight and likely causing her & her bodyguards to respond in kind.

Sounds like there was some confusion. "Heist" means theft, so that was my understanding. Regardless, if you can't buy the drugs you can steal them.

Oh, I made a mistake, I thought Mari veto'd the whole idea, not merely buying the stuff.

Ah, gotcha. No it was just the "asking for money" part. She was confident Hashimoto wouldn't have the money or be willing to loan it if she did, and that asking the Naraka Rollers would send the wrong message. If you can find the money elsewhere she's fine with buying it.

As far as we know the Target should be moving at non ninja speeds for long distance travel. Not every team has the chakra water and it is likely expensive to buy solider pills on top of which have significant negative side effects to discourage casual use. I feel we can reasonably count on the Target moving at a slow enough pace to do a passive awareness check every 1 Km allowing us time to get into position and spring our ambush. My plan of setting up things around the town would be one way of herding the Target into the ambush zone without making the Target aware that they are moving into an ambush zone.

We should really ration our time really tightly, as this mission has a lot riding on it in terms of potential reward and consequences for failure. The plan we make before this deadline should cover 2 days of preparation/planning/training. The next deadline should cover the third day before potential arrival of the Target for final touches to plan and ambush zone. By next week's deadline we should have the Target within our control and heading to the drop point. Does this sound like a good way of managing our time to everyone? If we do this we should make sure the whole team is aware of the high stakes and should work hard together to manage our time well.

Doing some more free association idea generation for compiling best ideas into a plan.

If the Target becomes aware that we are to take them alive, how likely are they to have a suicide method and willingness to use what ever method to deny being kidnapped? Note, the Target is a Seal Master so this would be directed at Kagome for his thoughts on the proposed scenario. What are the odds for the Target doing this if traveling alone and if the Target is traveling under Guard. What should we look for in terms of body language should the Target be under Guard to see if we can't use a diplomacy tactic to separate the Target from their escort with cooperation. How would our ambush have to change if it becomes a rescue compared to full cooperation from the escort into town?

How much time would it take to find and convince bandits to set up along roads we absolutely don't want our target to take, ask Mari this as well as Kagome as they have the longer ninja careers.

Can anyone familiar with the maths figure out how far one misterator would spread the stuff?

Oh and in our plan, we definitely need to ask Kagome his opinion on bringing her in alive, given that she might be put in a seal sweatshop, rather than mindscanned.

If Kagome isn't comfortable with it then we're killing her.

That's not really how ninja travel works. Your standard issue genin can travel at considerable speeds according to their TacMov by using the chakra they regenerate. What Nobby's water allows us to do is to use chakra boost to travel few dice faster than our standard TacMov since we have a big chakra pool to ignore the cost. Meaning Arakida will be running at approximately the same speeds we use, with few dice variation depending on the configuration of her party.

My plan of setting up things around the town would be one way of herding the Target into the ambush zone without making the Target aware that they are moving into an ambush zone.

I still don't understand how this could possibly work.

Say we are able to somehow create an area that tickles her survival instinct enough for her to change routes. How large do you think we can make those areas? Now, how many of them would we need to make to cover a big enough area to catch her?

If there were only few clear routes to town we might be able to make it more likely for her to pick one, but covering the open plains and fields common to Rice with these kind of setups sounds impossible for 6 ninjas to do in a weekend.

How much time would it take to find and convince bandits to set up along roads we absolutely don't want our target to take, ask Mari this as well as Kagome as they have the longer ninja careers.

Assuming that our target uses the roads (not very likely in my opinion), why would she turn around if she met some bandits? Even if for some reason she didn't feel like murdering bunch of people and testing some esoteric seals on them she could just hop to the woods, make a nice semi-circle, and continue on her way.

If we do camp in the wilderness waiting for her and don't manage to find her (the most likely outcome), we will have a bit of a problem. If she gets past us, how will we know that she did get past us? The only way to do that is to have someone in town scoping things out, but are we really risking a fight here with only half the party or something?

Chapter 73.1: Word Choice
Oh and in our plan, we definitely need to ask Kagome his opinion on bringing her in alive, given that she might be put in a seal sweatshop, rather than mindscanned.

If Kagome isn't comfortable with it then we're killing her.
Kagome's eyes widened. "Do I care? Do I care if some stinking sealing stinker who experiments on kids and probably turns their brains around or something gets locked in a sealing sweatshop?"

"Yeees?" Hazou asked carefully, leaning back slightly as his very unstable sensei got more excited.

Kagome's eyes were wide and staring, one finger raised like a teacher making a point in class. His fevered gaze held Hazou tight in its grip as he leaned in and hissed, "One question."

"Yes, sensei?"

"What is she to you? Your aunt, your friend, your second cousin's third roommate?"

"...no? I've never even heard of her. You know that."

The pose fell away and Kagome shrugged. "Meh. She's not on my team, so who cares?" He turned away and wandered over to the campfire, muttering "Ooh, baked apples! Yum!"

Also ask Kagome if he would prefer to be killed or put in a seal sweatshop with the chance of escaping (as he did).

"What?! What do you mean?! Why are you putting me in a sweatshop? Why do you want me dead?! I thought we were friends!"

Everyone dove for cover as Kagome dropped a brace of explosive tags to cover his panicked flight into the night woods.

Inoue-sensei sighed. "What did you say now, Hazou?"

"Nothing! I just asked him if he'd rather be dead or in a sealing sweat shop!"

The redheaded jounin glared at him. "I'm going to go collect our wayward explosive-hurling lamb. You're going to sit here and write 'I will consider my word choice more carefully' five thousand times. When I get back we'll have a talk."

Hazou gulped. "Yes, sensei."

Hazou proceeded to write it once as fast as he could.

Then he set his body on autopilot repeating the motion while mentally going over meta-meta-meta-list 147-B.

After doing some maths, it would currently take Hazou 383 XP to get Sealing 20. Obviously, we're not spending every point we get on Sealing, or even most of them, so in practice, we're looking at the next 1-3K XP.

Bring on the clever, daring, and entertaining plans.

Please check my work here y'all, because this is really weird, but to continue on the mystery of Noburi's XP, the sequence appears to have been as follows. He had:
So, it looks like Noburi should have 35 XP in the Medic Bank and 59.5 XP floating, for 94.5 total. Looking at the character sheets right now, it looks like he has 4.5 XP floating and 63 banked XP - he's missing 27 from his total. So he's missing the 13 from the most recent update, as well as 14 from bookkeeping errors somewhere.

Do the GM keeps a list of XP points gained for each chapter?

There's a reason why I used git for writing rather than google doc, unless google docs has revision history support?
