I can make a rune that reproduces the ice storm that hit near Leaf, except with a vastly larger radius. The one near Leaf had a radius of about ten miles. I could make one with a radius of...fifty? A hundred? I haven't done the math, but it would be enormous. I could lure Akatsuki to some unoccupied piece of land in the middle of nowhere, set up one of these runes on a skytower a mile up, and turn it on when my telescope said they were a dozen miles away. I reverse summon the moment I do, but their first warning of what was coming would be the utter destruction of everything. Massive winds that tear up ancient trees and throw around boulders the size of a person. Freezing hell-spit falling sideways, making the blood freeze in your veins and explode your flesh. Could probably get some lightning in there too, just for spice."
Sweet baby ninja Jesus, what are you saying?
I didn't vote to blab about WMD capability, and even then, why are you giving specific information that connects to the destruction of Issan!?
He cocked his head in thought. "Actually, probably better to do it the other way. Instead of making it cold, make it hot. I turn the rune on and, a few seconds later, every breath of air within miles is hot enough to melt lead. Turn all of them to ash, and there wouldn't be any clouds gathering to provide warning.
Oh,thank god he's changing the topic and giving them a different version to rumimate on, but also, why didn't you lead with this one?

Ahem. Sorry bout that.

Initial Infosec horror aside, that was a really fun chapter, I chuckled at Kei&Noburi at the beginning, and it ended at a really cool place.

First thought: Well, EM-set-to-hot has long since been known to be far less deadly than EM-set-to-cold, so this is probably just exaggeration.

Second thought: Oh, um, Air Dome can cover an entire city and isn't even particularly range-oriented.

Third thought: I wonder how big the rune needs to be to actually hit "country-sized AoE"...

XP AWARD: 10 This update covered 2.5 days, with the remaining 0.5 day having been covered in an earlier chapter.
Okay, so 3 more days of reading notes, Prime is busy clearing the caves, so we'll assume 19 training blocks per day. During this time period Hazou was experiencing 0.8x stagnancy, so that'll be applied to all notes, also recall that a maximum of 4 training blocks can be applied per set of notes per day.
Orochimaru's TH notes #4: S: 0, B: 57.6 R: 92.4
12 blocks applied at 2.4XP/block. 28.8 XP banked.

Orochimaru's TH notes #4: S: 0, B: 86.4 R: 63.6
Orochimaru's TH notes #5: S: 0, B: 16, R: 84
12 blocks applied at 1.6 XP/block. 19.2 XP banked.

Orochimaru's TH notes #5: S: 0, B: 35.2, R: 64.8
Orochimaru's TH notes #6: S: 0, B: 1.6, R: 98.4

Orochimaru's TH notes #7: S: 0, B: 0, R: 50

9 blocks applied at 0.8 XP/block. 7.2 XP banked

!!!!!

Oh yeah.

Hazou SC XP: 7.6 (76 training blocks in the 8 day period)*5 XP/day = 38 SC XP

There's a minor error on the schedule where 5 prep days are specified, but 6 are marked out on the schedule. I'm going to assume Hazou took a day off at the beginning to read notes. This makes my job minorly easier and it doesn't really matter when he takes the day off.

There are 5 days where he can apply 4 blocks to the first set of notes and 2 days where he can apply 3 blocks to the second set of notes. However, this will finish the first set, so instead he's going to be smart about this and distribute the days so that he can read both sets of notes on the infusion days.

Recall that Hazou is working on a project to clear his Sealing Stagnancy, which means his note gains (and his SC XP gains) are unstagnated

18 blocks applied at 3XP/day, 54 XP banked.

Orochimaru's TH notes #3: S: 0, B: 150, R: 0

8 blocks applied at 3XP/day, 24 XP banked.

Orochimaru's TH notes #4: S: 0, B: 57.6 R: 92.4
Did we just pull 156 xp in 6 solar days?

That's 26xp/day for this update.
That's about 2.6 Itachis worth of prodigy.

I'm not sure it makes sense to count notes XP, since it hardly matters when we read it. Still more than 15XP/day with just SC and bonus XP

Them 5/day base rates are cracked.
We should keep murdering interesting stuff and giving bold speeches.

Not in sprawling dungeons or cave complexes that take days to clear and secure, but ninja-fights are looking like a pretty good value proposition.

[X] Action Plan: Journey to the West
Word Count: <299
Desired Duration: 6(5) or 8(6) days
  • Sanity check with Uplift
  • Hazou
    • Continue researching Unchained TR140 and Force Domes w/DoB, full prep, reroll for progress
    • Research also Long Fuse Explosive, begin by prepping one day, if genin difficulty, begin no-DoB no-prep infusions, if chunin, prep 4 days total, reroll for safety only. If more difficult, abort.
    • After TR140 finishes, and only if Kagome is not yet ready to leave the grotto, prep 1 day and research Storm Runes/Remote Explosive w/ DoB (IFF they are Easy or Trivial).
    • Test if an explosive will completely destroy an expended rune.
    • Examine the misterator that wouldn't activate.
  • Noburi
    • Should prioritize healing Yuno, SC research, and teaching Hazou Mednin, in that order.
    • Collect additional data from the chakra water until he thinks we can eventually replicate the effect without returning to the grotto.
  • Kagome
    • Continue working on Banshee Fuckers. Coordinate with Hazou to avoid research cycles falling out of sync.
  • Kei+Tenten
    • Prioritize searching the caves for the Otter Scroll (we know this is a long shot). More prosaically, clean up any traces of our battles. They should retreat from any sign of chakravores/magmaspines. Send Canvass with them to help search.
  • Misc.
    • Ask Noburi and Kei privately about the possibility of keeping drained ninja captives as chakra batteries.
      • Hazou is aware of the moral problems, but this an intrusive thought of his. Just creeps in.
        • We could grab some Jashinists? Somebody really bad.
      • Are there medical or logistical difficulties?
    • Ask Mari if there's any difference in her aura from the chakra water.
    • Prepare to leave, clean up any expended runes, bury any active ones w/ a Long Fuse (if available) set to explode after the rune burns out.
      • We plan to head over the border of Wind outside the EN, but consult with the team for alternatives.

Could someone walk me through this chakra budget?
Sure, Hazou has 900 (extra) + 315 = 1215 chakra to spend each day.

On infusion days he spends: 290 (Rune A) + 350 (Rune B) + 220 (SC + 5 Clones) + 320 (SC for 4 blocks) = 1180
On rest days he spends: 200 (SC + 4 Clones) + 960 (SC for 12 blocks) = 1160
On prep days he spends: 220 (SC + 5 Clones) + 880 (SC for 11 blocks) = 1100

He's actually Resolve limited on the last, interestingly enough. Could divert it to Kei, but I'd rather there was a bit for flexibility in the budget for justify Summoning say Canvass.

If he isn't doing diff checks he'd do the full 12 blocks of FOOM on prep days.

Um...Skatkatchescotia, I think?

I'd rather not speculate until the QMs have discussed it. I don't want to set expectations for one thing and then end up disappointing them if we end up going in another.

Check for yourself, mah dude.

As someone from one of those provinces, who's worked in healthcare, and who's current work involves researching rules, I volunteer as tribute to hunt down these missing rules notes! Just as soon as figure out when Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia Amalgamated...

(But really, I and I'm sure other players can pitch medical research mechanics, if that would be helpful.)

Also, @Velorien @eaglejarl @Paperclipped, honest question, would a constructed argument/analysis from some of the players about this combat and unstagnancy be helpful? I may have sketched up a 6-point argument, but would not just post it in the thread without prompting, since that would be a tad pushy.

You know, it occurs to me we just made a big speech about how bad of a idea using a EM Nuke Rune would be, and the plan calls for us to prep day exactly that rune...

Actually, wait. I'm not really seeing Hazo's objection to using EM Nuke in general, only his opposition to using it preemptively against Hidden Rain.

Post it, I enjoy reading things I already agree with.

Unless you don't agree with me, in which case it's definitely overstepping.

Thanks, looks like I messed up the calculations when I did it myself.

Added.

Superheater

Rune

The opposite of a Superchiller, heats the air in the AoE to burning hot. The air will ignite anything flammable in the AoE. It will burn anyone on contact, and will (usually) kill anyone who inhales it.

Chakra EMP

Rune

Inspired by Noburi's Chakra Disruption Blast this rune disrupts chakra constructs and active jutsu effects by sending out interfering pulses of chakra. At the beginning of everyone within the AoE's turn, they roll CR vs a TN, if they fail, all of their active ninjutsu/genjutsu are dispersed (if they have the Disadvantage "Breaks Painfully" they take any associated Stress)

If someone just has a non-sapient jutsu effect within the AoE (like an Elemental Clone), they still roll CR vs TN, but if they fail, only that jutsu effect is dispersed. Sapient Jutsu Effects like SCs (or paper(?)/blood(?) clones) roll for themself.

If they have passive Chakra Effects making up their body (like an SC, Sasori, or Konan) and they fail the roll, QM discretion what happens (SC would pop, Sasori would likely die, but Konan would probably be forced into her human body etc.).

It is possible, by exposure, to train yourself to resist this Rune -- with the associated Stunt, lower the TNs by half.
