On the other hand, we have a 71% chance of getting a better roll than Doom, boosted to 81 with XP

Unprecedented Failure

A critical fail in this roll would suggest that this activity had at least DC 216.

And maybe it is just me, but "unprecedented" sounds worse than a critical fail. I think this is the only one of this kind we've seen in the quest.

I don't think that we have what it takes to poke this bear at this point in time.

that wasn't a crit fail, just an unprecedented one so it's under 216 but above 107

Maybe the Dc will be decreased due to putting moles into DOOM'S spy network?

Edit: or maybe redirect fallout in investigating to Doom?

Unprecedented is better than a crit fail.

Janna has Leopold for flight and transport. Let someone else use the wings and it'll be more efficient.
It's called "fashion." Who cares about efficiency when Rule of Cool for having a suit of magical artifacts carries the day? :p
So all Christians are guilty of the crusades and people of modern America are all guilty of genocide? You blame the people whom do the acts not their descendants. You want to aim that vitriol at the original queen and her idea to make insane super solders that are immortal? I'll be right there with you.
Technically speaking, Solaria wasn't the original queen. Mewni had existed for a few centuries by the time Solaria came around. In the grand history of Mewni, Solaria is actually kinda recent.
Well damn... that's some perspective I suppose. From his wiki it looks like lizard boi is immortal too. That imply he lived through all that stuff personally? Can't imagine that leaves one's psyche in the best of places.
Likely not all of it. He did serve under far more radical people once upon a time. He did live through a lot of the worst though.
Magic is destroyed and Bill becomes a lot less scary. I'm honestly not sure if he can exist in our dimension with no magic to begin with. . .
Bill isn't magic. He is a dream demon, like those guys Freddy Krueger makes a deal with. He only needs to be invited into the physical realm to exert influence. The most common way for that is through magic, but that doesn't make Bill himself magic.
There's no clear cut best solution here, and maybe putting Star back on the throne isn't the ideal thing to do, but I'd argue that keeping Toffe in charge is the worst result, and that Star is definitely more likely to at least try to be fair and help both sides and try to repair the rift and establish peaceful discourse then Toffee.
Putting Eclipsa and Globgor on the throne could still be an option in the long-run. Who knows? With the Royal Family except Star potentially dead (depending on how those branches of the fake line go), the MHC might even be willing to let Eclipsa be queen this time around just from seeing how horrible Toffee's regime is to Mewmans. After all, the council wasn't exactly ALWAYS opposed to a peace with monsters when the situation got bad enough.
Was Janna poor in the show? I ask because I honestly don't know and it seems like if she can't afford the cost of a greyhound bus ticket to another king's territory then my read on the situation must have been off.
She seemed to come from your average suburban household, so probably low middle-class. Above the poverty line, but not really rich by any means.
Toffee isn't the first of his species and there have been countless Monster rebellions Toffee's was just the most recent and arguably successful
Toffee also technically is just continuing the regime of his former master, Seth. That's why I referenced Toffee as feeling quite sentimental in labeling one of his companies "Seth Supplies"
I'm behind therapy, but don't think taking her off duty is good for her mental health. Taking her off duty after she told us everything will tell her that we don't respect her as someone who can help us in magic, and that we have mentally switched her from someone with an agency to a kid that needs to be protected. Xandadu this turn will give her some experience with Khan, and let her know that he have some very powerful allies. Send her to the magical auction next turn will give her some Doof troop time. Hopefully, after that, we will have Mal and can afford to take her off for Star and mental health. But I really don't want to bench her after she was emotionally honest with us. That's the sort of thing that makes her feel like she can't be because it causes us to treat her with kid gloves.
Given that she canonically has issues with her mental state being worse when she feels helpless or not in control of the situation around her, I would definitely say we shouldn't take her off of actions.
It sort of acts as her last grasp of Mewni, justifying the abdication because she's the 'rightful queen' (as if the dependency has any actual value when we are later shown the original queen was picked via enie-meene-mine-moe)
Star the Underestimated
was Queen for just four days.
Her one decision on the throne:
to give it all away.

That is actually her official "queen poem" that every queen gets.

oh come on you missed a perfectly good opportunity.

" Curse You Scarf wearing Prinny!"

Makes me wish Disgaea was part of this game, if only for this exchange;
"A Prinny?"
*hat goes on
"Perry the Prinny!"

Don't mind that we can't reasonably bring Shego with us. As much fun as that would be, I don't see it being a big benefit for us overall. We can always invite her along for the next one, and it's probably smart to feel thinsg out without another major power being involved.

Janna's situation is tugging on my heartstrings. Kind of want Doof to build an Adoptinator for her. She needs an authority figure she can trust, and it seems like the insane/over the top type of solution Doof would come up with.

Guys, I just realized! "The Golden Fan" is a thing associated with Queen Celena the Shy!

What lies behind the golden fan
the hand does sweetly hold?
A trove of cosmic secrets
that never will be told.

That is her poem.

That's fair. I'd still advocate that we get her some session time with Technor, but otherwise I'd say put her on Alchemy next turn.

I wonder if this is related to our 'we might lose a hero because of the greatest secret they never told. The 'Dream Queen' is, well, a Queen. And this 'Shy Queen' is awfully related to both magic and secrets. And mysticism and magic, which are related, like to dabble in vision quests, which Wile E. Coyote had been on when he received that premonition.

This. This might give us a few clues and help us push forward that subplot more concretely rather than just stumbling in the dark. If not, then at least it'll be cool, given that it's getting an interlude.

EDIT: Okay, apparently the Shy Queen might not be the Dream Queen, but I still wouldn't dismiss the idea that this poem and the Premonition are not entirely unrelated.

You know.... Janna never told us Toffe when she came on board. And we did have a lose her option...

Huh, still no reason not to push Goofy and Russ, but I wonder. If this is true, the chink in his armor might refer to Toffee, not Bill.

Actually, it took 4 magic users to destroy the realm of magic originally, and if Toffee has so thoroughly taken it over than he can't be easily forced out...

Hmmmmmm.
