[X] Action Plan: Respite Anew

  • General:
    • Stay on the quiet. We're supposed to not get noticed.
    • Stay under Henge. We are all (former) missing-nin and should any scouts see our position and decide to knock without our noticing they'll see our faces. And that would be bad.
      • Under our Henge, have face-concealing masks that keep our facial features hidden.
    • Keep constant watches, especially above us for Sand's gliders.
  • Discuss the Mist Drain Situation.
    • Discuss this while Minami isn't here.
    • How bad is this? What's our political standing with Minami's clan? Should we be afraid? Who can she leak this info to, besides her clan?
    • Minami knows Noburi's ace-in-the-hole, and has the ability to use this as leverage against Jiraiya's clan. We need to prevent this from happening.
      • What can we offer that could convince her to keep mum?
        • Personal favors, clan concessions, specialized seals?
        • Is marriage an option here (oh god...)?
      • Are there any memory modification jutsu she could voluntarily go through? (from Yamanaka or others)
      • Any oaths or formal agreements to discourage her from sharing this information?
    • Related topics of discussion:
      • What systems (in Konoha) exist to handle situations like this?
      • How did Kagome's village and Mist handle this (do we know)?
      • Should we send a message to Jiraiya (via pangolin) to inform him of the situation/ask for advice?
      • Any other things we really shouldn't share with her?
        • Specific working of Keiko's bloodline?
        • Any seals?
        • Information about Pangolin/Summoning realm?
        • Anything from team's history?
        • Anything from/about Kagome?
  • Talk with the rest of the team.
    • Keiko: Discuss learning a medium-ranged weapon specialty when we return to Konoha.
      • Also suggest a possible bloodline-based combat style for her.
        • Use CCnJ.
        • Note: We don't really know that much about its effectiveness in combat, but it's something that could be considered.
        • Reassure her that her current combat effectiveness and general worth as team member is not in question. We just want her to be even better.
        • If she questions her qualifications for this, remind her of the colossal growth she went through during our travels.
        • Make note of how impressive he found her back in Rice, and, more recently, with Kagome.
    • Noburi:
      • Discuss possible avenues of research for when we return to Konoha (or even before); let him mull them over.
        • Utilizing Medical Ninjutsu or other techniques through his bloodline (ie, medical ninjutsu on someone anywhere within mist or water) if he thinks it possible
        • Draining techniques or chakra boost as they are used -- could be dangerous to experiment with.
        • Does draining someone dry help train their chakra reserves (is it dangerous to use in this way? Noburi would probably know)?
      • Talk about potential combat styles combining his bloodline with Water Whip/Water Clone.
        • As with Keiko, we don't know that much about his bloodline, but it ought to be considered for future.
    • Akane: Have a romantic picnic.
      • Ask -whoever's in charge while Minami's away- if it's OK for us to spend some picnic time with Akane.
        • If this is veto'd ignore the "leave the base" part and just spend time with Akane inside the base.
      • Get some chocolate (from Kagome) & iced drinks.
      • Set up somewhere with a nice view. Don't go too far from the team; we're supposed to stay on the quiet.
        • Also make sure the place doesn't risk us getting spotted.
      • Play the flute. Tears of Red, anyone?
      • Catch up a bit more since our last conversation.
      • Watch the sunset (if applicable).
    • Kagome: Discuss the method we used to escape the Mountain-nin cave (specifically, using Force Walls to direct an explosion). Ask if it's possible for us to develop combat weapons around this.
      • Obviously, do not do actual testing right now. This is theoretical discussion only.
      • Maybe stuff an implosion seal down a 5SB'd airtight tube? It could probably propel something pretty fast, though it'd need to be against a stationary target.
  • Research & Training:
    • Study some seals (Make sure Kagome clears it first):
      • Basic seals from the Nara Library.
      • Beginner seals from Jiraiya.
      • Mountain-nin seals. Take a look at these with Kagome to figure out what they do since we don't have the time to set up research facilities.
    • Ask Noburi/Keiko for some Diplomacy training, since we clearly need help with our mouth.
    • Do some basic training with the Seal Rings & Macerators, such that we can use them in combat.

Nothing changed from Faflec's old plan yet.

We also need to discuss the political implications of Kagome's attempted murder. Jiraiya had to kick us out of Leaf because Hazou threatened Kabuto. Kagome just actually attempted murder. Even if Minami keeps this out of her official report as she promised you can be damn sure she's going to tell her clan. The Minami could potentially hold this over Jiraiya. Kagome's attempted murder is a much larger problem than Minami knowing about Mist Drain. At this point the fact that she knows about Mist Drain really shouldn't be the focus of the conversation.

          • Make note of how impressive he found her back in Rice, and, more recently, with Kagome.
      • Suggest gathering information about local markets/cities.
        • Data about the market, city demographics.
        • It would take relatively little time and wouldn't draw attention to us, would it?
        • Her knowledge and abilities could allow to gather significant insights from this information.
        • Could be utilized to trade along the way.
          • Perhaps even buy our own telescope?
            • We do have Minami, but two telescopes are better than one. Also it's our own.

    • Noburi:
      • Discuss possible avenues of research for when we return to Konoha (or even before); let him mull them over. Hazou doesn't know what it's actually like to use Noburi's bloodline, so some of these suggestions may just be dumb.
        • Utilizing Medical Ninjutsu or other techniques through his bloodline (ie, medical ninjutsu on someone anywhere within mist or water) if he thinks it possible.
        • Test if his bloodline has any additional abilities while using his chakra water as a vector for draining, etc -- if it does... well, it might be possible to develop a specialized seal to store and then misterator it. No promises there, though.
This discussion may occur in the background.
        • Any synergy with seals or traps?
          • Skywalkers and clones (assuming there clones could use them) could allow complete 3D surrounding of the enemy.
            • Does kawarimi disrupt his techniques? It would improve his mobility on the battlefield drastically .
          • Pre-prepared misterators along with wires;force walls;explosives could box an enemy in, allowing for a quick draining.
        • Could we improve the misterators?
          • Poison the mist, increasing it's offensive potential?
            • Tunneler's Friend could be useful here. Or we could try immunizing the team to specific poisons?
          • Mix something with mist, making it harder to see through?
          • Combine with seal sucking out air a for maximal humidity and deadliness?
    • Akane: Have a romantic picnic.
      • Ask -whoever's in charge while Minami's away- if it's OK for us to spend some picnic time with Akane.
        • If this is veto'd ignore the "leave the base" part and just spend time with Akane inside the base.

        • Also make sure the place doesn't risk us getting spotted. No risking opsec or safety for datetimes.
      • Play the flute. Tears of Red, anyone?
      • Catch up a bit more since our last conversation.
      • Watch the sunset (if applicable).
    • Kagome:

        • Maybe stuff an implosion seal down a 5SB'd airtight tube? It could probably propel something pretty fast, though it'd need to be against a stationary target.
      • Ask Kagome how he'd go about breaking Jiraiya's spy network if he were to need to. Approach it as an intellectual challenge.
        • Hazou was considering suggesting to the team (and Minami) to check Jiraiya's network for being compromised -- how would he suggest going about that?
  • Research & Training:
    • Study some seals (Make sure Kagome clears it first):
      • Basic seals from the Nara Library.
      • Beginner seals from Jiraiya.

Nothing changed from Faflec's old plan yet. Youth colored changes
Plan update.

I guess I'm missing something. What special ability does Akane have to allow her to make ice in the desert?
Elemental Mastery Technique, allowing to change temperature within given area.

Still suggest we have Akane make ice. Cost us nothing and could be super valuable

Desert is not a good place to make ice. Day is not a good time to make ice.
Considering it's a hot desert we are in, max/min temperature could range from 38 to 6 degrees Celsius (100,4 to 42,8 Fahrenheit), day and night.

We can decrease temperature by 25°C using Akane's technique.
0°C(32°F) is the freezing point, but it's not enough- we need the ice to take a bit of heat before it melts, otherwise it's not practical.
Not sure how many degrees do we want below, but more the better. Recommended freezer temperature is -18°C(-0,4°F), but that's for storing food.
Yes, we have seals, but local businesses don't have to employ ninjas (needs to last at least some time in non-seal storage).
Also you don't want your ice cube to melt after 5 minutes in your drink (on top of storage it needs to stay solid long enough to be prepared, served and consumed).

An average ice cube weighs around 8,5 grams (~0,3 oz.).

There's math and physics involved in calculating how long an ice cube will melt in a desert, at about 30°C(86°F) (cause desert and people want a cold one during a hot day).
I am not going to go through all this. Instead I'll say that we'll need this ice cold, very cold. 15° below freezing point cold at least (why that much? dunno. feels right. make some math if you disagree).
So unless it's quite cold at night, don't bother.

Though I gotta say- it's actually a good business opportunity, out here in desert. We may want to tell this to Jiraiya. We teach this technique to a bunch of nin and we may corner a few markets. I don't think this technique is really well known.
Unless we are going to sell some ice let's not tell that to Minami. Less she knows the better.
Edit: I hate Americans.

Talk with the rest of the team.
  • Keiko:
    • Suggest gathering information about local markets/cities.
      • Consider profitability of selling Elemental Mastery Technique-made ice.
        • How profitable is it? What's the demand here and elsewhere (in other nations)?
          • Compare profits with time, chakra and logistical (need to supply dat ice constantly or in bulk) costs.
        • Can this be scaled up? Create a whole ice-selling empire?
          • Jiraiya has enough of a merchant network to make this a proper business.
            • It's also a solution to the OPSEC issue.
          • We can teach genin this technique, employ hidden ice-factories in Sand to cut back on transport costs.
            • May create OPSEC issues- they(Sand) want that ice-making techniques for themselves!
            • Consider alternative manufacturing bases. Leaf can be good enough.
        • Point out beautiful synergy- icy soul conducting soulless business selling ice.
I was struck by an icy inspiration. This may be interesting.
Just so we are clear- elemental mastery technique:
a)Can be taught by Akane?
b)Has to be taught by hillbillies?
c)Is easily replaced by some other technique and this whole Ice Emporium is a bust?

Deserts be cold at night, Elemental Mastery lets her lower the temperature in an area by 5 degrees C per level (so, 25C right now).
And where is she going to get water in quantity? I'm assuming that we're not considering turning Noburi's chakra water into ice cubes for sale.

But as a general business opportunity for Leaf, we should probably look at the old American ice ships that sold ice from New England around the world. Let's see if we can find some way to adapt that historical experience to this ahistorical experience.

Unless we are going to sell some ice let's not tell that to Minami. Less she knows the better.
This, definitely. Lesson (hopefully) learned. We tell Minami only what we must, and only after careful consideration including the rest of the team.

Besides, instead of turning Akane's Elemental Mastery technique into a means of earning a few ryo (something that Kagome and Hazo can anyways do for the team by selling seals), maybe we can find some way to turn it into a combat trump card for her? Also, maybe she'd be willing to teach it to Hazo and/or the rest of the team?

What good is that, you ask? There'd be no point in everyone putting lots of xp into it, you say? That's true.

But what if Akane dies or just becomes unavailable, as she already did twice (when she was injured and later when the team was expelled from Leaf)? Wouldn't it be nice if Hazo had at least level 1 in a technique that might have all kinds of munchkiny possibilities? Ditto other team members.

As a general rule, I favor getting at least level 1 in every technique possible, on the bet that sooner or later, we'll be glad to know it.

So, unteachable bloodlines aside, maybe the team members ought to be actively teaching each other whatever they can?

She can teach it yes, and she wasn't sworn to secrecy about it to my knowledge.

We are in a party with Kagome. And Hazou. Literally metric tons of water stored, probably.

Is there a specific reason that they would have metric tons of water stored, or just on the principle of "store everything?"

Oh, and how large a volume of space can Akane affect at her current level of Elemental Mastery? And is she willing to be at the center of a region that is well below freezing, and would she survive it? Hypothermia is a thing in MfD world, yes?
Water for personal usage, not to be sold in an effort to corner the market.
Not cornering a market, creating it. Until now, there was no ice to be had in Sand. Now, if we do this, there will be. Not the same as "buying up all of a commodity so as to be able to sell it at monopoly prices."

Henge negates the danger of hypothermia.

While I agree with cornering, ninjas still have seals, and that means exotic goods like ice can reach sand.
It's probably a small market though.

It has a range in excess of its area (this isn't documented, but we talked about it in the time between mountain and our first diplomatic oopsy up in Hot Springs), and she's done temperature training with Hazou before anyway.

Okay, good to know.

Still, it's more energy that stands between a luxury resource and a poodle of water.
I know that bigger temperature difference means faster transfer of energy, but even with that it's better to have colder ice cubes.

Energy is kinda pointless here though. We aren't playing Einstein, just selling some ice, offering product of good enough quality (cold enough).
To make use of physics here, first we'd need to see how fast a standard ice cube will melt with given initial temperature difference. Let's call it M, like melt.
Then estimate time it takes to take the cube (let's ignore storage for now), make a drink with it and have a customer leisurely consume it. Let's call it C, like client.
Now we gotta get good enough temperature to have M higher or equal to C.
Sorry if it sounds douchey or patronizing...
Except I don't think QMs care that much about logistics of a bar we don't even run.
