@Sir Stompy Our conversation on Discord kinda got sidetracked, but would you be willing to do a bit of reorganizing of your plan to emphasize the more time-sensitive stuff first? This would mostly be moving stuff involving tracking runners/other Akatsuki to the front, possibly its own section while talking to a Tsunade clone or something.
Yeah I'll drop the edit tonight
I don't mean stop sanity checking. I mean add them to the current war council already.
No, the Sannin don't think they deserve it

Rest of the rolls redacted.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

May we please see the rest of the rolls?

Seeing the full set of rolls would provide us with essential mechanical insights that we can't reliably infer from the chapter alone. While we can try to deduce some things (such as the Bosses on the ground not engaging Deidra due to being in aerial zones), these inferences can be extremely unreliable without access to the mechanics.

For example, in the miasma cave encounter, narrative details made it seem like Yuno was dispatching shades left and right. However, the rolls later revealed she couldn't kill them at all. Similarly, Kei's Pangolin's reach appeared to aid Noburi in landing a critical blow—only for the rolls to later show it didn't actually have any effect. Without the rolls, it's nearly impossible for us to analyze what went well, what went poorly, and how we might adjust our strategies in the future.

Having access to the rolls allows us to properly gauge the impact of key decisions, better understand the underlying mechanics, and make more informed tactical choices going forward.

Beyond their strategic value, seeing the rolls is just plain fun! They provide a level of transparency and engagement that adds depth to the game. There's something uniquely satisfying about tracing the narrative back to the mechanics, witnessing the highs and lows of the dice, and seeing how chance and strategy interact to create memorable moments. Sharing those details makes the experience more immersive and rewarding for us as players.

In short, having the full rolls for these combat rounds would both enhance our strategic understanding and provide an extra layer of enjoyment. We'd deeply appreciate it if you could share them with us.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped Since Hazou contributed meaningfully in the battle, did he unstagnate his combat domain? Answers include:
  • Yes, because :).
  • No, because :(.
Yeah, speaking of information that was opaque in the chapter, what exactly was our RERs doing? Were we attacking Deidra and making him and his dragon perform athletic checks? Were we providing a maneuver to the Sannin who were chasing him? Were we suppressing him from standing still and performing a bombardment of our forces? All three? None of the above?

Having the rolls isn't just nice for planning; it's essential to understanding what our abilities actually do and what we should do (and research!) going forward.

Given that we can't punch essies directly and we may never be able to, will we ever get a clear look at a essie's rolls? Is there some way we could? Could we have like, a extended debrief with Tsunade/Oro to try and get some Jashindamned numerical facts about a essie's capabilities?

[X] Action Plan: Aftermath
Word Count: <299
  • At the Rift
    • Dismiss extra SCs, plan to Invoke 1x on the final reintegration roll to generate 7 additional clone-hours
    • Immediately find a Tsunade and ask if it's worth going after any potential Rain escapees -- the window to hunt them is rapidly closing. If yes, Summoning more Dogs to help track.
      • Summon Canvass, have her search for humans in the rubble.
        • Give Canvass a vial of Hidan's blood and ask her to look for his scent especially.
      • Ask Cannai if he can stay for a short time and sniff around for Itachi and Kisame, assuming he got their scent during the Dragonwar.
      • If Hidan, or a other Akatsuki member has a fresh (<1 day) trail suggest we send a fully refilled Tsunade, Orochimaru, Mari, and Kurenai with Canvass to hunt them down.
      • If Itachi or Kisame's hypothetical trails end abruptly, assume Reverse Summoning and raise the ground to kill them on the Unsummoning.
    • Sift the rubble with ES and SCs, (clone-hours permitting), and chakrascopes, bring in the rest of the Leaf ninja to help look for the Rift
      • Look for Summoning Scrolls, seals, research notes, or anything of value.
      • We know that Sasori fortified the labs, be sure to grab any of his seals that remain.
    • Expend Iron Earth and Force Dome, store the remains. Bury any Ninja-Radar deep and wrap in LFE. Expend the remaining RER shots, destroy the burned out runes with the last shot.
    • Open a deep shaft for the Superchiller, and set LFEs to collapse the tunnel after it.
    • Start shaping a Rift-Opener rune in preparation for locating the Rift -- use the 25 point size.
      • Open the Rift and grab Deidara (if possible) have Noburi drain him to unconsciousness.
    • Raise the ground where the fortress was to kill Unsummoners
    • (If Mari approves) Suggest to Tsunade that she stay with Orochimaru to defend him while he's moving the Rift, help him move it....and to make it less likely he absconds with it.
    • Plan to leave by dawn for Leaf with Uplift and most of the Leaf contingent.
Major plan updates. Really kind of concerned with the Tsunade suggestion, but I don't really see a better way of doing it. Suggestions welcome

Dismiss extra SCs, plan to Invoke 1x on the final reintegration roll to generate 7 additional clone-hours
Bear in mind that for this to work, we need to dismiss a longer-lived clone last. If we're at the point of needing to Invoke for safety and then we have to dismiss three 1-hour clones, we'll be rolling three times against that same high TN.

In general, I'd prefer a more detailed breakdown of what we're doing with our clone-hours before voting for this. I'm pretty busy today, but I might have time to produce one at some point.

Like. Oh. The ones that were used to collapse half the village that one time?
Those particular tunnels have long since been located/filled in. It's been long enough, and Leaf isn't dumb enough to have a Great Collapse happen twice.

It probably took 7 hours to do IRL though 😔
Probably more when you count @eaglejarl and @Paperclipped working on their updates separately.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped Some questions and possible answers:
  • A Tsunade believes ninja could have escaped the Force Dome/Ninja Radar; is it worth expending resources to track down and kill them?
    • Yes, our tracking skills, including Summons, are good enough that it's worth spending time and chakra to track them down.
    • No, we have no way of scouring the area well enough to find them; our resources are best spent elsewhere.
    • No, we have more important things to spend time/chakra on.
  • Does Cannai have the time to try and smell out Itachi or Kisame's presence? What about Hidan, since we asked for his blood a while back?
    • Yes, Cannai has the time to figure this stuff out and/or track them down.
    • Yes, but Cannai can't help you track them if he catches their scents.
    • No, Cannai is not the best tracker and/or doesn't have Itachi or Kisame's scents.
    • No, Cannai has to bail.
Tsunade believes you have bigger fish to fry, while the smaller fish would have had no problem breaking trail (skywalkers, adjacent ocean, nearby population centres).

Cannai doesn't think it's practical to try to find scents in the ruins of the fortress in the time available. The explosions generated an enormous amount of dust and would have obliterated or dispersed the tiny traces on which scent tracking relies.

Thank you for the helpful suggestions!

Did Deidara's clay dragon explode when it hit the ground after Deidara was stabbed? I suspect not since the resulting explosion should have been large enough that Eaglejarl would not pass up the opportunity to describe it in detail. I like how visually descriptive his writing is. Also, I suspect that exploding the whole dragon at once would be an S-rank suicide technique. So, we may have an unxploded clay dragon embedded in the ground. If so, I propose we rig a detonator and leave a spotter to detonate it when the Akatsuki return to recon the battle site. Maybe we can destroy them with their own b******* explosives.

We have been talking about going into the rift to get prisoners to interrogate. Another possibility is go in and get Leaf ninja, Jiraiya in particular, to help defend Leaf. Is it reasonable that Canvas or some other tracker could find Jiraiya in time? In fact, could we have them searching the rift while it is being moved?

Earlier, there was some discussion about the idea that we might have chapter releases a bit less often. I would point out that this is in conflict with the idea that we try and reduce the difference between in-game time and real time. I suspect that less frequent chapter releases would actually increase the difference between in-game time versus real time. Do we want that?

I'm not sure I take your point. We dismiss the longest lived clones all at once at the end to avoid making any rolls in the danger zone before we can Invoke. That's the intent and I can edit. Since so many of the tasks are unknown unknown lengths I don't see how we can be more specific.

Velorien's responses above mostly obviate the need for this, with the exception of Canvass being used to find humans in the rubble (though wouldn't they be obliterated by the initial barrage?
Open a deep shaft for the Superchiller, and set LFEs to collapse the tunnel after it.
Are we setting the Superchiller off? It sounds like we're just burying it from this description.
Open the Rift and grab Deidara (if possible) have Noburi drain him to unconsciousness.
Hazou should point out that Daizen, despite having died multiple times, still had chakra; he just didn't seem to be regenerating any. Unless Deidara was completely tapped out he may put up a fight. It may be worth setting up an electrified field or something around the reopened rift to catch any explosives he sends through.
Raise the ground where the fortress was to kill Unsummoners
Pedantic but I think we have the word count for it: "...to kill anyone who reverse-Summoned".
(If Mari approves) Suggest to Tsunade that she stay with Orochimaru to defend him while he's moving the Rift, help him move it....and to make it less likely he absconds with it.
Suggestion:
  • (If she approves) Ask Mari to suggest to Tsunade that she help defend Orochimaru while he's moving the rift. Us losing the rift to Akatsuki would be catastrophic at this stage.
    • (Subtext to Mari) It also makes it less likely Orochimaru absconds with it.

Ah - apologies, had missed that clones popped in the same round only produce one roll.

I think alerting the superchiller Hazo is a priority. Just in case he hasn't got the message yet.
He did. He got it when the other clones popped after the battle, at which point he himself popped.

Also, quick note: he did not decide to use the rune and then chicken out. He wasn't quite convinced that it was time, that's all.

is that possible? I'd expect the Iron Earth to lock the rubble in place and make digging out extremely difficult
My understanding of the rune, which informed the update, is that it affects the earth itself, not loose rubble on top of it.

Phew!

May we please see the rest of the rolls?
Sorry.
Did Deidara's clay dragon explode when it hit the ground after Deidara was stabbed? I
It did not, which means I missed an amazing opportunity to have the update end with:

There was a cataclysmic explosion as the dragon detonated.

[Blah blah blah titles] Deidara was no longer happy. He was dead.

But at least he went out with a bang.

Velorien's responses above mostly obviate the need for this, with the exception of Canvass being used to find humans in the rubble (though wouldn't they be obliterated by the initial barrage?
Huh, alright, so we're not trying to track Hidan at all? Seems worth doing a sweep of the perimeter outside the explosions to see if he has fresh tracks
Are we setting the Superchiller off? It sounds like we're just burying it from this description
It takes too long to descend, only 5' per hour. Unfortunately.

Seems fine to me
(If she approves) Ask Mari to suggest to Tsunade that she help defend Orochimaru while he's moving the rift. Us losing the rift to Akatsuki would be catastrophic at this stage.

I think Tsunade would correctly see Mari as Hazou's catspaw here and this would piss her off. I think our odds are better if we do this with Hazou

It did not, which means I missed an amazing opportunity to have the update end with
Huh! Should we set it off before we go? Probably, right? Anyway we should definitely take a chunk (assuming it can be stored).

Pinging also @Velorien @Paperclipped Does Hazou think that we can store a chunk of Deidara's Dragon? Does he think we can carry it without it detonating? I guess if neither work we could store it in an anonymous patch of Dog

...Itachi is totally gonna find the fuckin' thing, isn't he. It would be just our luck.
I think Tsunade would correctly see Mari as Hazou's catspaw here and this would piss her off. I think our odds are better if we do this with Hazou
Fair enough; I would still argue having an rationale for her staying with Orochimaru beyond "protect him" would help.

Makes sense for Cannai.

What about the Lightning Runner pack? Some of them were at Nagi and at least know what an Hoshigake smells like? Right!?

Pakkun is a tracker! They weren't all popped in the battle! Yes!?

*inhales copium* Best Tracker Scroll on the Human Path my ass.

I'm really digging the Qms being so responsive. Is that new?

I mean they have a whole document full of questions preserved so they can answer it when they have the time, (quinoa) so I'm not saying them answering our questions at all is new, I'm just saying it feels like the speed and type of questions being answered are improved. Like the bit about Cannai tracking scents so we don't have to waste time and wordcount writing it into a plan and waiting for the update.

But I might be imagining it, just seeing what I want to see after the recent discussions. Maybe they've always been this responsive and I wasn't giving them enough credit? Idk, I'm not one of core cast, so I don't have enough personal experience to judge accurately.

Either way, this is supposed to be compliment, sorry for getting it all mixed up with implied criticism. Here, let me try again:

Thanks for the informative responses, QMs! I appreciate them and I appreciate you.

Edit: Fuck I should ping them if I'm complimenting them. You. Ping you. Pinging in edits works now right? @eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped
