[x] Ask the team for all information they have about Bear. Mari, Kei, what's conventionally known? Kei, Kagome, Yuno, any insights or speculations your respective forbidden-lore repositories offer on the matter? A location even the Akatsuki may not dare enter is very appealing. Are we positive we can't hide there?

This is, quite literally, a Lore Update, but still gives us some actionable intel, as well as information on a long-standing world mystery.

I say we should hide out on the far side of Bear, relative to the EN. We don't need to hide in it to benefit from the universal aversion to the place, when it comes to Hidan's Jashindar.

DO NOT GO TO BEAR

There, that's all they know

There, that's all they know

"The Nine-Tails is here in Leaf, the Eight is in Cloud, not sure where the Seven is, there's no believable record of the Six in the last fifty years, the Five is in Bear-just one of the reasons the place is so dangerous" Kagome, Chapter 120
(Note: the Five turned out not to have been in Bear: Han, Five-Tails jinchūriki, was from Hidden Rock. Utakata, Six-Tails jinchūriki, was a Mist ninja.)

"Bear Country. Terra incognita which nobody wants or dares to cognit. Doomed to be forever isolated, nay, quarantined for the greater good" - Noburi, Chapter 327

"I could have said… I don't know, let's do it over the ocean, or in the mountains, or in Bear. It's not like anyone goes to Bear." - Akane, Chapter 562

"A week overdue? What in the Sage's name was her mission, a mapping trip to Bear?" - Naruto, Chapter 589

"If you're serious about this, every spy network and cartographer's guild has bounties for maps of the Forbidden West, past Bear, Mountain, and Wind. People who go exploring over thataway have a tendency not to come back, or come back gibbering." - Mari, Chapter 609

"Right, the beasts are manageable. It's not Bear, so we have some hope of surviving it" - Mari, Chapter 682

So another potential solution to the chakra problem is if instead of capturing a bunch of Jashanist we instead just recruited some missing nin and had them travel with us. We have essentially infinite money and Mari to insure their loyalty.

This has occurred to me as well, but I think it's probably too much of a risk. Mari can probably detect any current intent to betray us, but that leaves the risk of them changing their minds when they e.g. realize how much the Akatsuki would probably pay for our heads, without Mari being around to spot the intent before they act. She's not magic. Besides, we'd have to kill them afterwards to keep them from leaking PS/FOOM/SC/mist drain/... etc., and they'd probably figure that out pretty fast. I don't think it would be feasible to have them travel with us without them learning anything we care about leaking.

Hmmmm, I still wonder if it would be feasible to basically hire missing nin the way we paid Leaf genin for chakra, for like a week at a time or something. People were leery of attacking them and kidnapping them but just "Hey we'll pay you for a B-Rank where you don't need to do anything but give us your chakra for a week," might be doable with Mari to convince them.

They'd probably give up info on us afterwards if we don't kill them but if we just skywalk somewhere else maybe it wouldn't matter. Though, travel is kind of slow, especially since we aren't using the Skysliders.

If I was a missing nin I would be terrified that I would be attacked after I gave my chakra away.

Also do we let them live if they say no? Assuming we'll be reported means every time this negotiation fails we have to pack up and leave. This just seems like it has the potential to waste lots of our time for very uncertain chakra benefits.

Also skysliders aren't faster than ninja running, both ~20mph

Skysliders are too large to fit in conventional storage seals plus disassembling/reassembling them is a tedious and time-consuming task according to EJ and someone whose name I forget who had real-life experience with analogous gliders.

They should be manageably stowable on the 7th Path and Summoners can carry up to their body weight in mass with them.

Huh, I didn't think of that.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

Can we Declare that we did this? That we stashed 10+ skysliders in Dog?
At the very least Hazou should have the blueprints for them IIRC, and knows how they're constructed. We could build more with the Arachnids weaving the silk and Kagome's woodworking skills being used for the frame
I'm going to register an expectation that having stashed some is now beyond the scope of a Declaration, because we'd have to explain why we haven't already been using them, but I think Shrooms's point about being able to build more is a good one and would support at least asking Kagome whether he thinks he could do this.

Tbh we can outplay Akatsuki if it comes to that. We can produce nation state level of wealth
Not really? Like, theoretically, yes we can produce stupid quantities of diamonds, gold if we find a deposit to raid, etc., but practically speaking "someone spending large amounts of gold and jewels instead of money" is the kind of thing that would draw attention; Akatsuki might even be watching for that specifically, if they heard about the gem deal that we were going to have with Hinata. Besides, nothing stops the missing-nin from taking our bribe and then betraying us anyway; unless we tell them about Earthshaping, they'd expect to be able to loot any payment from our bodies, and if we tell them about Earthshaping we leak that Earthshaping can do that. (Which is not a huge deal, since it's a publicly available jutsu in Leaf and constantly promises greater powers for levelling it more so someone will eventually raise it to 50, but that might take years.)
