tl;dr we trick the enemy into thinking we've left while erasing all signs of our presence inside the cottage. There is no further thinking since I don't know what to do next.

[X] The Noburi Maneuver
Word Count: ???

  • Keiko wakes everyone up and brief them on what's going on. She will be summoning Snowflake and Panashe.
  • Marimakes several Water Clones (and a SC to join Snowflake, if appropriate). She uses her Jonin-level Alertness to help determine the enemy's location/quantity and if the cottage itself is trapped.
    • Time permitting, Mari looks at the note to see if the "attack" is a trick.
  • Noburi tops off Keiko, and Mari/Yuno if time permits. As possible, he senses enemies with VD.
  • Yuno detonates some Misterators in the cottage.
  • Panashe does Alertness-based stuff with Mari. When a rough estimate is made, she makes a hidden tunnel (outside but in a predetermined area) leading somewhere nearby.
  • Water Clonesleave the cottage and:
    • Throw up explosives to alert everyone in the village that Something Fucky is happening here. Our use of explosives in our last visit should tell them that we're the ones doing it.
    • Throw around Misterators to obscure LOS.
    • Run out of the estate towards our allies' yelling that we're under attack.
    • Sneak out of the village just carefully enough to be barely detected.
  • Snowflake leaves the cottage as well, but to a nearby location to stealthily view the cottage. Snowflake pops if enemies approach the cottage.
  • Everyone in the cottage gets in a (Misterated) Air Dome, ideally not in contact with the ground.

  • Immediately summon Panashe and Pandaa, Keiko refills
  • Pop a few misterators around the guest house.
  • Send Panashe to scout the surroundings, if there's a clear path to skywalk away unobserved have her report back immediately
  • While Panashe is scouting, rig the guest house to blow with 75% of the teams explosive seals.
  • When Panashe reports back, Mari and Noburi make Water Clones, Keiko summons Snowflake.
    • If Panashe doesn't report back quickly, or Noburi reports ninja approaching the guest house, break the ceiling and flee upwards on skywalkers.
  • Otherwise, follow the route for safe exfiltration leave the Clones + Pangolins behind.
  • Panashe shadows enemy force, attempting to learn identities and number of attackers.
  • If enemy ninja force entry to guest house, have Pandaa and Snowflake order them to halt in Ui's name. Stall as much as possible for more enemy ninja to to enter the blast radius. Blow it before Clones+Pandaa can be overwhelmed.
  • If Isanites act non-hostile and notice the Clones, have an explanation for why team is gone. Otherwise tell them to come back in the morning.
    • We received a threatening note and with the Kannagi estate empty of defenders, we temporarily are staying with another Clan for the night.
  • Exfiltrated team refills chakra from Noburi and travels to Takahashi estate via skywalker. Descend in a dark corner of the village far enough outside the Takahashi estate to hide our descent and inform him of the situation. Ask for chakra donations from Takahashi ninja.
  • If guest house explodes, wait 15 minutes and resummon Panashe for update, otherwise wait 2 hours.
  • Relay any information from Snowflake and Panashe to Takahashi. Maintain Shadow Clone OPSEC

  • Keiko wakes up everyone and brief people what's going on. She summons panshe.
    • Panshe is to scout and shadow enemies. Find out force composition and goals.
  • Mari makes several water clones.
    • Said water clones spread several misterator, carrying with them banshees and strobelight
    • Their job is to delay the opposition and obscure LOS while also killing nobody.
  • Quickly and (quietly) exit the cottage and head into the sky ASAP.
    • Make sure that we know which direction we will go. Either through compass, dead reckoning, or the stars.
    • Flee to a predetermined & scouted exfil or hide site. Make sure that there are no lights following the team on the ground.

Noburi can drain chakra from enemies... Maybe tack something to the effect of "prepare to transfer chakra from enemies to Mari/KEI?"

I also vaguely remember some experiments that had Noburi absorbing chakra from a water clone... Did anything ever come of that?

I am a very nervous about a plan that has us sticks around when we should be getting the fuck out of there.

It's hardly surprising that the foreigners living under hostile hosts in a hereditarily xenophobic village who got many of their most important ninja to kill each other and just mulched the most important figure in it are having their movements monitored. Why did they suddenly feel the need to insult their hosts by evacuating in the dead of night? What are they up to? What are they hiding? What does it say about the Taka that they immediately went there?

If we run now the mission is over. That's a viable option. Sometimes it's necessary to abort, but understand that mission failure is what is happening.

Alternatively, we can stand and deliver in an unexpected but respectable manner and hope a combination of surprise and asymmetric warfare tactics carries the day long enough for the rest of the village to realize what is going on and put a stop to it.

From my perspective. Either there is an attack or there isn't. If there is and we run, we survive and win once, come morning, we make the whole thing public. If there is and we fight, then however good our plan, skills and explosives are, there is a chance we screw it up and, in the worst case, die. It's also possible we survive and win the fight but lose politically to maneuvering that paints us as the aggressors somehow.

If there is no attack and we act aggressively, we lose. The note is a political trap, we run into it and get politically beaten. If we do nothing, we win. But doing nothing if it is real means we all die - not an option. If we run away from a fake threat, that's something that can hurt us politically, but I can't see it hurting us very much. "They insulted the Kannagi by leaving their lodgings at night in a hurry, how suspicious" is just not a very powerful accusation. There's any number of ways Mari can spin it, starting with "we got a threatening note in the night, look we have it here. We thought it best to be safe" and including things like "sometimes, we just enjoy night-time aerial walks" or "you mean you were spying on us?! How rude!" or "Chakra beast attack. We dealt with it. Sorry, it didn't leave remains." or whatever.

[X] Action plan: Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape

Simple, and avoids killing people in a situation where it might not be necessary (and where it might even be what our enemies want us to do). I would prefer leaving a shadow clone or pangolin behind to talk to / warn off any intruders and gather information about them.

I like this plan a lot. It has us scouting to get a better idea of the enemy, but also gives us a quick escape route if they're already too close for comfort.

If enemy ninja force entry to guest house, have Pandaa and Snowflake order them to halt in Ui's name. Stall as much as possible for more enemy ninja to to enter the blast radius. Blow it before they can be overwhelmed.
But maybe there should also be an option for if the people coming aren't openly hostile. There's a good chance this is a political move to make us look bad, so we should have an option for if that's the case. How about something like:
  • If Isanites act non-hostile, have an explanation for why team is gone
    • Pangolin religious ceremony
    • Meeting with the SSSSS
    • The Truth (threatening note)
I think such a section would be best right after the section I quoted, although somewhere else might work too.

Implemented, added line about Kannagi estate being empty of defenders. Made us feel vulnerable.

Can we afford to pass up on the opportunity to thin the ranks of our enemies? This could be our last chance to flip Isan and prevent Goketsu from heading into dire straits.

If I was a clan leader, my brother got publicly killed in a way that didn't even leave anything to bury and I was bringing everyone I could muster to get revenge, I would be absolutely thrilled if my foes had a 10-step plan with conditional branches and complex logistics requiring precise coordination.

There is no need for us to figure out a safe path to skywalk. We just need to skywalk way up into the air and then land in a known safe location, especially since it is pitch black outside.

If the enemy wants to kill us, they would not enter a house. They would just blow it up.

Also, houses are the worst places for ninja to be in. They prefer open ground where they can dodge.

Otherwise, follow the route for safe exfiltration leave the Clones + Pangolins behind.
Does this mean we exfil if there is no thread ? I rater we stay put in case this is a political maneuver.
Also should say that if he detects a ninja presence that could realistically overwell us, if is just the lone shmuck he should down him whit vampiric dew.

I think our reputation can take us spending the night somewhere else after receiving a credible threat. I definitely do not want the team to stay in the guest house tonight. Since we're not on foot, it's basically impossible to lure us anywhere.

[X] The Noburi Maneuver

I feel like they'll be waiting for us to go to Takahashi tbh, that's part of why I like the idea of baiting them into thinking we're going that way with water clones

@Shrooms @RandomOTP I am abandoning the previous plan as it is crap and I want to rewrite it in favor of a more flexible approach, but feel it would be too different from the current plan to just make edits (also because I'm a lazy fuck). Please stay tuned.
