Sooo… confirmation that those crazy kids are scrubbing the shark, or whatever they call it in Leaf. Also, Snowflake happened to turn up at just the right time to give Hazō the Rightous Mori Face Punching he needed. Coincidence? I think not!

were she to be released from the Frozen Skein on her own terms, it cannot be said that the unfettered access to my memories would transform her into me.
That's a bold claim from someone whose literal continuity of identity only exists via memory and was purely formed from the experience of Keiko being released from the Frozen Skein on her own terms.

Obviously, she is the entirety with access to do science of the concept of identity, but my relatively strong prior would be that if Keiko was able to flip a switch in her brain to disable/enable the Frozen Skein's existence in her at will, in practice, that would be a "transform Keiko into Snowflake and vice versa" magical girl power.

I honestly can't believe Hazo believed Ami when she said Akane was pregnant, but I guess that's the peril of becoming closer to her - we start to take her more seriously.

Put together some training plans, only Noburi's is truly significant but doing it as a batch also helps coordinate previous training plans that haven't made it onto the sheets yet, for QM convenience.

[X] Training Hazou: Closer to FOOM
Shadow Clone 23 (66 XP)
Save 15 XP
(Assumes SC 20 training plan from earlier cycle is applied first, else just do that and then this)

[X] Training Noburi: Slap people with water
Vampiric Dew 40 (20 XP)
Water Whip 50 (455 XP)
Save 13 XP

[X] Training Keiko: Incrementally More Resolve
Resolve 24 (24 XP)
Save 23 XP

[X] Training Akane: Incrementally More Resolve
Resolve 22 (22 XP)
Save 6 XP
(Assumes SC 30 training plan from earlier cycle is applied first, else just do that and then this)

[X] the ever changing moon illuminating an icy field
To Asuma:
  • Casino seals, Vibrator seals, and Chakradar.
    • We can give the first two. The third is still in testing, but we're in the final stages if everything works out.
  • Kagome
    • Kagome has some interestingresearch ideas for his free time. Mostly variants on "huge terrifying explosions".
  • Explain the CHAOS suit
    • It's a suit with strategically placed exterior seals for accessibility in live fire scenarios. The loadout is modular: Macerators and defensive seals (Banshee Slayers, Usamatsu's...) currently. Skywalkers are an option, for example.
    • Jiraiya thought it had promise.
    • We can improve on subsequent variants. Chakradar seals were originally designed to enhance alertness by placing many of them around the suit and reading the response pattern.
    • We want to improve on the design and seal loadout to make it useful to Leaf. Does this seem worthwhile?

Summon prep
  • Meet with Inuzuka to discuss history of ninken
    • If Inuzuka ninken seem to be Canvass's ancestor's pack, summon her to check.
    • Ask if they know any wild creatures that match the description.
  • Commission a set of teeth caps for Cannon.
    • Look up where Yahiko died.
    • Meet with her to discuss a contract for the duel with Hagaromo
      • We are fighting against enemies that deliberately hurt our pack
      • We want her by our side in this conflict
      • We might not be able to find the relics of her legendary ancestor just yet, but we can start forging our own legend together
  • Ask Cannai to recommend a jounin-level summon.
    • Describe the situation to them:
      • They hit our pack.
      • We want to guarantee they never can again. That's why we want such a powerful warrior on our side
    • Make a deal for a one time contract.
  • Noburi: make whatever deals necessary to get a powerful squad
    • We want as much firepower as possible

"Can you tell me about these teeth caps? What did they look like and where might they be?" Hazō asked. Internally he was already wondering if he could recruit a different scout. The idea that he could find a few random pieces of metal somewhere in the world....

"Sure! Ahe-he-hem! My tale, it is of the times long gone, when the great summoner Bunbee Yako—"

"Banri Yahiko."

*Dispel*

Bear in mind that Ami was raised on homework such as "get those two to admit their mutual affections by the end of the week merely by moving objects around without being detected." There's no way her model of Hazou is poor enough not to have predicted the results. Funny how she mentioned that bloodline-limit holders don't breed easily and flat out told Hazou that she was intentionally inflicting these emotions.

Note, "made up on the spot" implies that something acute and unexpected occurred to prompt it, which Hazou did not explore.

And then Snowflake shows up within the timeframe Ami clearly knew to talk about existentialism and "long-term plans", which prompts Hazou to fear that he has been murdering infants who haven't had time to grow into people. Oh, and the surgical kenjutsu wizard is on a 'mission'. Oh, by the way, it's hardly worth troubling the medic about.

It's never been discovered before what happens if two of the Forbidden clans cross. 'suppose we know now. Miscarriages are never fun.

"What are the qualities that allow a memory to serve as an anchor for identity? Why do most people only have one identity if there is no hard limit? These issues and more are critical to understanding not only our own nature and potential, but those of humanity itself. Yet even the Nara, world experts on Yin chakra and its applications, have inexplicably failed to recognise them, much less investigate."

Hazō's mind boggled. He'd been happy enough to treat the Shadow Clone Technique as the world's most amazing multitasking tool and leave it at that. The idea that it had all these layers of depth was both unexpected and, frankly, unnerving. He'd spent time, in his early days with the technique, agonising over whether he was killing a sapient being every time he dispelled a clone. Eventually, his teacher had laughed his concerns away, pointing out that shadow clones themselves were cavalier about their existences, with no sense of self-preservation beyond that needed to protect the original and follow his commands. Besides, their memories were still within him. Nothing of value was lost.

Hazō badly didn't want to find out that his shadow clones were metaphorical infants being murdered before they could grow into people.

Time to move on quickly.

"Say," he said, "why have you started talking like Keiko? Is that part of your experiments too?"

A little of the light drained from Snowflake's eyes.

"I deemed it for the best," she said quietly.

"To return to my original request, would you consider training with me today? Any type of training would be acceptable, except, of course, that my chakra supply will be limited, and this is hardly worth troubling Noburi for."
No, on this one occasion, some productive violence was just what the doctor ordered.
Interesting how Mari and Keiko oppose each other. Mari kills all attachment beyond naked data on her memories. Keiko is trying to find something meaningful beyond the simple data to define personhood. Hrmmm, sounds almost like the result of a bent sacrificial genjutsu. Would there be some reason to suspect that they might both have motherhood issues?

Also note that by Hazou's personal estimation, he would fail against a social-spec jounin who describes her own combat skills as mediocre while it is entirely possible that the Hagoromo can bring a full three jounin to the field of battle.

Also, we still haven't gone to say hi to Shin.

Anyway, back to the Asuma conversation.

...would this be a bad time to bring up the chakra pony?

In all fairness, I think there's a lot of anxiety around accidental pregnancies when young couple's first become active together. Doubly so when it's their first physical relationship.

Why yes, why yes there is. One presumes moreso when they are deliberately obligated and trying to breed in the face of apocalyptic losses. Why soever might Ami choose to put Hazou through that gauntlet of emotions right this particular moment while avoiding letting Snowflake know that she had been present?

Sorry. I was heading back from work and replying to GO's comment. Specifically, about why I think it's reasonable that Hazou believed Ami at first.
