So after we wrap up dealing with Yasuji we should probably start prepping for our next scroll hunt. Grabbing the Kraken scroll will be a pretty nice get

I want to check on Honoka first. A physical condition can worsen as time goes on and we've left it lying for a bit too long for my comfort. Are the medical bills being taken care of? How's her family doing financially? How's she holding up, emotionally? She's just a kid.

Edit: I'm struck by the idea that Yuno and Honoka would get along like a grainhouse on fire. Let's introduce them!

If there's issue, someone would tell us.

Yasuji
  • Goal: Work towards an actual deal. We do want a new barrel for Noburi and the koi.
  • Method: Be friendly and straightforward, but treat him seriously. You'd like to work with him to assemble an offer the Wakahisa would accept.
  • Have breakfast together and then talk to him in private, in your office.
  • Float the idea of selling Kagome's modifications to Noburi's barrel.
Clan secrets are in many cases the village's most powerful weapons. The implications of trading them with representatives of a foreign military are quite intuitive.
I'm a bit concerned that trading for clan secrets with a foreign nation may have Consequences, both from Asuma and from Ren (should it ever get out). Methinks we should ask Asuma what his stance on this, both in terms of trading our clan secrets and in terms of trading for the Wakahisa's.

Though it is weird that the Mizukage doesn't have a problem with it.
but he can negotiate for his clan in his role as an important member, provided that those negotiations don't interfere with his ambassadorial duties. Basically, if it's clan-internal then neither Kurosawa nor the Mizukage will care too much

Aren't Wakahisa barrel essentially bombs?

They're massive pools of chakra in a barrel with seals. If any seal is damaged there's a potential for a seal failure.

Seal failure + lots of chakra = boom (probably?)

I don't think there's a general rule that proximity to chakra makes seal failures worse. There was the case of Nightlight seals back in the Exams, where that was a concern, but it was because chakra was being directly injected into the seal, and that whole concern was retconned away so it's non-binding on the QMs.

Moreover, it's known to be possible to set up failsafe behaviour for seals. Storage seals are designed to expel their contents or vanish them into the Out when destroyed, which is why when Fifi claws at Hazou's chest and tears some storage seals it's only 'dang, we lost the contents of that seal' instead of sealing failures.

Between those two facts, and the fact that Noburi hasn't seen fit to caution us about such a risk, and the fact that Noburi's seals have been damaged before to no consequence other than the failure of the barrel, I'm not too concerned.

It may or may not be "designed" as opposed to "chakra works that way".

Also, destroying storage seals can cause a failure.

someone a VERY long time ago said:
Q: What is the savagery zones surrounding Konoha that determine how many chakra beasts and danger level as measured distance from Konoha.

Note that the following is a 'reasonable' guess:

The further away the wilderness is from civilization, the more dangerous beasts are. The distances of danger are defined only in the context that Leaf exists and nothing else, which obviously isn't true, but serves as a good guideline for how dangerous things get when away from major population centers.
  • 1 kilometer: Safe. Savagery is low. Careful civilians should be able to survive and operate industries outside the wall without much fear.
  • 5 kilometer: Slightly dangerous. Savagery is low to medium. It is recommended that civilians should arm themselves with weapons.
  • 20 kilometers: Dangerous. Savagery is medium. Regular C-rank patrols are needed to keep savagery down.
  • 100 kilometers: Very dangerous. Savagery is high. Megabeasts lurk. B-rank or higher will required to bring this zone down a notch, but is likely far from civilization.

Note that the team has traveled through deep wilderness a lot but you've generally had Mari and Kagome covering your flanks the whole time, plus pangolins.

[X] Action plan: Stable time loop

  • Discuss Yasuji sitiuation with Asuma
    • Long term it would be benificial if a Mist Clan head owed his accedancy to Konoha
    • And making sure that Noburi's branch of the Goketsu is fully empowered is good for Leaf
    • Ami has shown us how much influence is possible to gather in a forgein village
      • Image that influence directly in the hands of a Kage instead of in opposition to it
    • We have some ideas that might entice Yasuji that we would like to discuss in a purely hypothetical manner
      • jutsu from the 7th path
        • From the toads and an other scrolls that Goketsu might acquire
      • sealing instruction from Kagome
        • Which would have the benefit of bringing Kiri-nin to leaf to learn and see the wonders of Konoha
      • Some of Jiriaya's seals
      • trade with Konoha through the 7th path
    • Of course we would never do anything to endanger our relationship with the Hokage so if any of these hypotheticals where unworkable it would be nice to know
  • Time loop
    • The next morning Hazou precommits that if he ever invents seals that allow for time travel he will leave them on a specific hill at a specefic time
    • Go there and wait
Here's my current plan if anyone has edits they would like

We could ask Tsunade to check up on her? That's quite literally the best we can do for her? If it works and Tsunade can use it to find out what actually happens to children, we can propose a improved curriculum as a contest proposal.

What exactly is FOOM? I get the concept with abusing shadows clones, but cant get exact mechanics.. Could somebody help me up?

Do Not Mess With Time

The most probable thing is "If you invent timetravel, this is the first iteration, so nothing will happen", because it make the whole quest useless: If Future!Hazou invented time-travel, he would have saved Jiraiya/Shinji/conquered the world, and if he didn't use it then he wouldn't use it now, because A) there are good reason for not using it B)There is no need to use it because Future!Hazou already reached his objectives.
Second most probable thing is "The Grue does something, possibly bad".

By the official jutsu doc, Shadow Clone can be used for training if it is at or above level 30, at which point our clones can last for 'a few hours'. Each training block of 'a few hours' with which we have a Shadow Clone training gives us +10% XP for that day. So if we gain 4 XP that day, then having one Shadow Clone training block in that day bumps us up to 4.4 XP.

With Wakahisa water, we have the theoretical ability to expend very large amounts of chakra to summon as many clones as we want. If we could summon 10 clones that last for 'a few hours' and have each clone spend 'a few hours' training before popping then we would gain +100% XP for that day, turning a 4 XP day into an 8 XP day. The catch is that popping clones forces us to make a Resolve check, and the more training blocks we have up that day, the harder the check is. Thus even with the chakra limit out of the way we are still limited by our Resolve.

(As an aside, if we bring Shadow Clone up to level 40 then we can have each Shadow Clone train for 3 'a few hours' training blocks in one day, instead of 1. This saves on chakra but does not help the Resolve check as one Shadow Clone training for three blocks is the same as three Shadow Clones training for one block each.)

So, the process of FOOM is the following:
  1. Train shadow clone at maximum capacity
  2. Dump all our XP into Resolve
  3. Repeat
This is a self-reinforcing feedback loop, as the higher our Resolve the more shadow clones we can field, the more shadow clones we can field the faster we gain XP, the faster we gain XP the faster we gain Resolve.

The main limiter on this feedback loop is that we need to maintain our skill columns. Right now our top skill is in the 40's, which means the highest we can get Resolve is 59 before we have to shift gears. Once we hit Resolve 59, the goal becomes to get something else into the 50's so that Resolve can hit 60, and then we return to leveling Resolve up to 69, and then repeat. It's in these segments that FOOM starts to really benefit us, and we've crunched the numbers to figure out exactly how much.

The overall plan for FOOM takes five years in-universe, and gets us enough stats to make S-rank (an example stat arrangement is Resolve 100, Deceit 90, Alertness 80, Sealing/Technique Hacking 70, MedKnow/Presence 60, etc.) However, we turn a profit in terms of 'XP spent on things other than Resolve' at the first diversion to build up our columns, as by that point we should be able to handle 15 Shadow Clone training blocks per day. You can find a spreadsheet (created by Noumero, profitability analysis added by me) detailing the progression here.

Hope this helps!

Stable time loop doesn't have us checking with clan beforehand. edit: should also add negotiate with yasuji to speed things up

Summons Everywhere. Should add can use to get pangolins to kill chakra beasts, to obtain chakra beast parts, and to get the pangolins to owe us favors. To keiko can add can help curb their territorial conquests. Implementing it first (using chakra drained from chakra beasts to fund it) and then telling Asuma about the results will also be more convincing.

Family Matters proto plan doesn't focus on Ami enough. No mention of trying to get Wakahisa to help out Ami. Keiko will prob get pissed if we talk to Akane about our feelings now.

[x] Action Plan: Help Ami
to Asuma:
as you know we are donating some of Jiraiya's notes to the contest. do you have suggestions on how we can give them in a way that would most encourage contest contributions?

afterwards:
ask snowflake's thoughts.
any hidden messages in Ami's letter?
ami let hazou use lavender hankerchief. any hidden messages? flower language?
check with clan:
what can we offer that isn't treason?
offer kagome's barrel modifications. results of sealmasters devoting large time to a project are hard to get.
can we start using pangolins to kill chakra beasts we told keiko before now? if it works we could offer the chakra beast parts.
wat else should we offer
should we take that visit to Mist now?
negotiate with Yasuji how much he can help Ami, barrel stuff, and koi. ascertain how much wakahisa can actually help Ami
  • Time loop
    • The next morning Hazou precommits that if he ever invents seals that allow for time travel he will leave them on a specific hill at a specefic time
    • Go there and wait
