So, fun fact: did you know that Clan Goketsu has actually done zero missions in the month of February?

awkward.

Very important question @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail:

Is there still snow on the ground???
The target was out in the distant depths of the forest, far beyond where a sensible person would go given the existence of chakra beasts. Such were the benefits of being a jōnin ( in her case), and having a surprisingly poor sense of self-preservation (in his). She leaned against a tree, gazing silently into the distance like a poet waiting for a new verse to come to her. Hazō had no way of telling whether that was the way she was feeling at that moment, or what she decided to show him after hearing his footsteps crunching in the snow. He never did.

That's pretty strange now that you mention it. The founding Gōketsu members are off the lists, but Akane is still on active duty and should do missions with her team on almost daily basis. How come Leaf allows here to slack off?

I mean, that's technically true, but in reality we're busy doing "keep Konoha alive" missions of unknown payment (that is to say, we don't know if we'll be compensated and we're too afraid to ask due to rudeness).

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Are all the things we've been doing since the Collapse (e.g., Kagome's seal scribing) considered to be a paid mission for tax purposes, given that they were done under direct orders from the Hokage/Jonin Commander?

[X] Action plan: do you want to steal the bijuu?
  • Discuss with Kagome
    • Hazō has been thinking about the sealing array that where used on Nagi island
    • They did something to the bijuu
    • Does Kagome think taking a look at them might be worthwhile?
  • Meet with Asuma
    • The Gōketsu has some projects they would like to work on that could greatly help Leaf and we would to collaborate with the lord Hokage.
      • First Isan.
        • We have a lot of experience in the village and Kei is a very significant figure
        • Also Noburi's relationship with Yuno is incredibly valuable
          • We where wondering if we could convince Asuma to wave the adoption rule for her. To help out with international diplomacy
      • Jiraiya's spy network
        • We've been working on decoding Jiraiya's network.
        • While we are in Tea we'd like to use that as a cover to reestablish the spy network
        • If Asuma has any notes that might help this endeavor we'd love to collaborate to bring this vital resource to leaf
      • Capybara scroll
        • Since Tea lost the Capybara scroll we are interested in recovering it for Leaf.
        • If Asuma knows anything about the clan that lost it or anything about the condor summoner we could use that information to track it down
      • Nagi Island
        • Akatsuki did something to the bijuu.
        • If Hazō and Kagome could get a look at the seal we might be able to figure out what happened to them.
        • 3 unclaimed tailed beast are a huge risk to the balance of power
          • If the arrays aren't there we know that mist has a copy of them
          • That Asuma might be able to negotiate for Kage to Kage
  • Misc.
    • Keep current plots going with proper delegation
    • Journaling:
      • Add reflection on recent anger in addition to the usual.

In case we want a little more than a holiday episode but still want to take the chance to grab some downtime after all the panic, I put together a short plan that should accomplish this.

[X] Action Plan: Time off with our family
Wordcount: 131
  • Set aside some time for us all to just... relax as a family.
    • Some fun winter activities, maybe a quiet game night just between us.
    • We could all use the break.
  • Throw some papers around and ponder flight again.
    • Paper falls slow because it's catching the air. Maybe this principle can augment Leaf's aerial maneuverability in some way?
    • Fold paper into various throwing shapes and imagine them scaled up with a rigid frame. Could a ninja hold onto it as it flies?
    • Call your new idea Skysliders and tell Kagome about it.
  • Meet with the clan about your... condition.
    • We got interrupted by the Collapse, but is there any tests they'd like us to undergo? Describing our experiences to Kagome, intentionally touching the Out in controlled conditions, that sort of thing?

[X] Action Plan: Autopilot

Skyslider:
  • Paper fall slowly. You saw skylanterns float using hot air, because skylanterns are made of papers that float more easily.
  • Bird fly. Maybe paper and birds use the same principles?
  • Experiment with paper and throw objects and tell Kagome about it.
  • Name your invention skyslider.
Mari:
  • Continue genjutsu training. This time, without defeating the purpose.
    • Have someone else in the clan roll dice and dictate the scenarios.
Journaling:
  • Add reflection on recent anger in addition to the usual.

Update the plan.

I don't think we particularly care about whether or not a ninja can hold to the object as long as the principle is demonstrated.

I like Haru a lot. He seems like the perfect lieutenant for Hazou - he takes orders (which aren't stupid) well, he has good leadership qualities, and most importantly, he's passionate about solving the systemic discrimination of the ninja world. In fact, he may be the only ninja we've seen so far who shares anything similar to Hazou's ideals re: Uplift.

I think getting a lieutenant who gets what Hazou is all about is more valuable from a practical perspective than the Technique Hacker or Aya - after all, delegation is basically increased action economy, and Haru seems like he'd take well to the role.

I also think Haru would be the most fun to read, but then I'm a big sucker for the whole 'righteous revolution' kind of theme he's got going on.
He's a bit like early game Nobby! I like him too.

Were it not for the Technique Hacking on the table, I'd think Haru would definitively outstrip the other candidates by lightyears?

Strong up-and-coming dude, competent leadership skills, good jutsu, etc. etc. is a great starting point. Good relationship with Akane is a plus. He's more of a known quantity.

But the thing that would catapult him above everyone else is that he's got truly massive amounts of skin in the game.

NODA: Mostly I'm just concerned about financing the next bar trip and maybe my rent.

AYA: I am pretending to be my dead friend at all times so that no one can get to know me-- not paranoid enough!

HARU: I would like to murder and then literally eat the entire clan system with the passion of a thousand raging stars, but the axe that I'm grinding is too big and unwieldy for me to lift!

This isn't some massive idealogical divide, this is a targeting problem. We just need to tweak and nudge his viewpoint on things with a convincing argument and keep him focused on the big picture, and he's ours.

Send the kid to the gym, give him some shiny powerups, sharpen and clean his axe up a bit before handing it back to him and pointing him in the direction of problems we want to give a good thwacking to and say "Get to choppin', son."
