Guys we *need* to do something for Kagome. It even said in chapter that if we don't do something soon it's gonna be a bad end. I'm writing my own plan that addresses this, and will be submitting it when I get off work.

That being said, not many people vote formy plans so please, please add a section addressing the seal sweatshop.

Didn't we have Mari talk to him like two or three updates ago?

Didn't we have Mari talk to him like two or three updates ago?

Yeah, but the last update has showed that Kagome's still going at it (possibly with greater frenzy).

Kagome-sensei had been called back to his slavery at the workshop, and that was a problem that would have to be dealt with sooner rather than later (certainly, it wasn't an area in which they could solicit the help of the ever-smiling Rock ninja).
Mori did not need to know that the Gōketsu had no way to make any of their own. Frankly, that itself was a strong argument for keeping Kagome-sensei in the sealing workshop (though no argument was ever going to be strong enough). The faster Leaf got its seal stores replenished, the better the guarantee that it wouldn't run out of privacy seals and become ripe pickings for a resurgent Hyūga Clan.

But yeah, this is practically begging for a Bad End. What if the students take over the lower level stuff and Hazou helps lighten Kagome's load on the more esoteric seals? We need to try and balance the Hyuuga threat versus a Kagome Meltdown... Also, the Hyuuga are greatly diminished (they're still a threat, but a little bit less of one... at the moment) and if Kagome makes a sealing error due to exhaustion --which is highly plausible given his zeal for helping/protecting his family --then literally anything could happen.

I'm not going to lie - I'm kind of stuck on what we could do for Kagome.

The problem as I see it is that sealing sweatshops are a bad trigger for him. Like, really bad. However, he's been called into the sealing sweatshop - and that wording is important, because it means he's not there willingly. If he was there willingly, we could maybe warn him about Savior Syndrome kicking in, but if he's there because he was ordered, things get dicey.

In order for Hazou to assist Kagome, Hazou would need to be cleared for some sort of sealing work - at which point he would be called into the sealing sweatshops, which would push Kagome's buttons even harder.

I don't really know what we can do here.

General observation: we want to thank Keiko for breaking trust for us and helping us. We also need to talk to Kagome about the sealing not-workshop. Doing Kagome this update and Keiko next update let's the QMs each write their favorite characters. Just saying...

[X] Good Mourning Major Clans
Wordcount: Ask me in twelve hours
  1. Goketsu
    1. Convince the clan to let us go mourn with other clans personally.
    2. Hazou's usually been good about handling mournings.
    3. Besides, as a friend, Hazou owes them a visit.
  2. Estate
    1. Harden critical locations against attacks from any direction, including underground.
    2. Continue efforts to expand and improve living space.
    3. Recruitment
      1. Top priority is unaffiliated/liason ninja
      2. Reliable aides - strongly consider drawing from civilians for combination of loyalty/skill at job
    4. Establish free multi-track Goketsu school.
      1. General academics track (reading, writing, math)
        1. Open to everybody, nin and civilian alike
          1. Try to hire good civilian teachers for this track.
      2. Basic Ninja Track (basic tai, nin, genjutsu)
        1. Open to Academy students
          1. Consider mix between retired ninja and radical methods (e.g Kagome's early chakra use).
      3. Also establish Hazou office hours where he teaches ninja willing to learn in skills safe to give away (e.g taijutsu basics, MEW, etc.)
        1. Gently encourage the others to do something similar.
    5. Keep making the rounds - get to everybody at least once.
    6. Continue preparing for Merchant Council ideas like the storage seal bank.
    7. Check up on the burgeoning merchant network from a month or two ago.
  3. Clans
    1. Do what we've always done with mourning. It's worked out pretty well.
      1. Ask what we can do to support each other.
    2. Try to get some time in with everybody, but the priority list:
      1. Yamanaka/Nara
      2. Hyuuga/Akimichi
      3. Hagoromo/Amori/Kyosho/Aburame
  4. Personal
    1. Practice Calligraphy with the Iron Nerve off.

Here's a telegraphic-ish plan; I'll see how far ahead of my schoolwork I get today to flesh this out, but in broad terms the goal of this plan is:

A) convince Goketsu to let us do the mourning thing (we've had some pretty good success with that)
B) continue Goketsu projects and start the Goketsu University project
C) show up in person for Shikamaru and Yamanaka and Hinata and Hagoromo and Amori and generally everyone
D) ask what we can do for each other.

I like the plan, and appreciate your lots of effort/writing recently. I do have a couple observations.
Having us practice calligraphy with Kagome in what feelings panickingly like a sweatshop seems tonedeaf. Could we offer to write blanks for him to lessen his load? Or even arrange for Kagome to write them on his own time/from home if he needs to. Point out that a nervous Sealmaster with past trauma in a bad situation is not ideal for anyone (but do NOT phrase it as a threat please, we need to stop doing that).
Maybe just leave out the part of teaching kids Chakra manipulation overly young? We never did get a follow-up on it after Jiraiya and Kagome had their spat, did we? Could we get clearance from someone other than the absent Tsunade?

Also, I think I remember reading that you need to be a master earth mover to teach amateur earth movers (IE, MEW)

It's great to see Hazou and Ami interacting as peers. All those high-stakes social encounters we've been stumbling through have really started to pay off.
Also, super heartwarming to see how the Keiko-Hazou-Ami relationship has developed.
Fantastic update.

[x] thank Keiko for being best!sister. We don't actually give her positive feedback unprompted very much.

Totally agreed! Though maybe on Vel's next update, since Kagome seems like the family member of the day in need of Therapy no Jutsu?

We need to do something about Kagome. He's all but chained to a desk, slaving away to make seals. That's his worst nightmare, his greatest fear. He might be willing to do it because --as the gruff guy once said -- "of family," but that doesn't mean that we should take advantage of his kindness.

Totally agree. Maybe getting him a pass to work from home as well as help writing blanks?

It's still in the preliminary stages, but I wanted to get something out sooner rather than later. Can still add more ideas if needed.

[X] Action Plan: Deja Vu
Word Count: <200

Clear everything with the clan first.
  • Keep up estate development. Expand, fortify, and improve the living conditions; improve morale...
    • Ask Keiko if her pangolins can help with construction.
  • Go mourn with fellow clan kids/heads.
    • Hazou's usually been good about handling mournings, and he owes them a visit anyway.
    • Do what we've always done with mourning. It's worked out pretty well.
      • Ask what we can do to support each other.
    • Try to get some time in with everybody, but the priority list:
      • Yamanaka/Nara
      • Hyuuga/Akimichi
      • Hagoromo/Amori/Kyosho/Aburame
  • Put Ami's suggestions to practice:
    • Carry around a journal to note your feeling and emotions.
    • Practice daily with Mari on genjustu.
  • Investigate Jiraiya's Leaf safehouses with Akane/Kagome. Consider visiting stashes near Leaf as well.
  • Make preparations for the MC-approved businesses.

Generally like the plan. I would really like to see something to help Kagome (see above). And if we're asking Keiko for help anyway, may as well thank her for her massive gesture. But, I'd prefer to not burden Keiko if we can help it right now, since she seems to be holding the Nara (clan and person) together right now. Also, I do like the "start a basic school for the time being/make office hours" thing, if you're so inclined.

I'm not going to lie - I'm kind of stuck on what we could do for Kagome.

I don't really know what we can do here.

Use our position as clan head of gouketsu to push for worker's rights for sealsmiths. They're an incredibly valuable resource, and taking good care of them nets leaf more resources in the mid and long term. Leaf already values sealmasters, as shown by high price of seals. Just leverage that into minimum 1 day of rest a week plus 12 hours max workingon blanks a day and it should be enough to prevent a meltdown.

Still shitty by todays standards, but huge improvement over "seal from wake up till you collapse with brush still in hand"

List of implemented stuff:
Formally saying we're soft-selling Snake on joining us.
Rewording the Aide recruitment section.
Petition for sealmaster rights or for Kagome to work remotely, though I'm not super sold on the offer to scribe

Totally agree. Maybe getting him a pass to work from home as well as help writing blanks?
I fully agree that getting Kagome a pass to work from home is a good idea.
We could get Mari on that. She should be able to get this for him fairly easily, since it doesn't actually reduce the amount of seals that Leaf gets.

@huhYeahGoodPoint would you be interested in either taking out the part where we teach early chakra use or better yet say to ask Tsunade for her support? That's the only thing that is currently preventing me from voting for your plan.

Also, not a deal breaker but you may want to mention that we ask the clan about everything, since it doesn't specifically say that and I'm not sure if it's an automatic action yet.

Why ? Kagome all ready showed that it worked with Honoka. Jiraiya had her checked out by the medical staff.

Done @faflec.

Oh yeah, @huhYeahGoodPoint minor thoughts for your plan, feel free to ignore them since I don't really care if you do these or not:
  • Kagome's issues are pretty significant, I don't think it's appropriate to put them in "Other"; put them under the "Clans" section if you want, but it feels too much like an afterthought for my liking.
  • We never investigated Jiraiya's Leaf stashes for $$$ and blackmail material; might be wise to take a look.
  • Snake's dinner thing is tomorrow. I don't know if it'll be done in the update, but if it, we might want to have a thing getting Mari to take the lead, and ideas on how to do so. I put a version in my plan if you want to copy it.
