We need to do something about Kagome. He's all but chained to a desk, slaving away to make seals. That's his worst nightmare, his greatest fear. He might be willing to do it because --as the gruff guy once said -- "of
family," but that doesn't mean that we should take advantage of his kindness. Maybe we can take over writing seals a little bit? Or... what about Kagome's students? He's been teaching a few people sealing, right? Let's put them to work, to lighten Kagome's load.
[x] lighten Kagome's load by outsourcing some of the sealing work to ourselves or his students
Mori looked mock-hurt. "After all we've been through together? Hazō, just what am I to you?" [...] "Someone I trust enough to talk to about an important personal issue," Hazō finally said.
I find myself shipping it all the more. I wonder if Ami has it within her to cede the amount of control requisite for love to bloom? Or mutual affection built upon respect. Whether or not she feels anything for Hazou, control seems to be something that Ami
must have. I wonder if there's any way for us to help her? Hazou isn't indifferent to her, and if nothing else, there's a bond through Keiko to consider.
"Tell me about it." Mori laughed, making shadow puppets with her fingers in the background.
Possibility of manipulation aside, he found he didn't like hearing a melancholy Mori. He was starting to get used to her mercurial moods, or her mercurial selves, or whatever it was they were, but the shifts between them were unmistakable. This felt too much like her default bouncy persona, just with the bounce drained out of it. It was like seeing something human behind the Mori Ami he knew, and he didn't know how to relate to that.
He's seeing Ami for how she is, the truth of her --for whatever that might mean, or for whatever she's allowing him to see. She needs a friend... For the very same reasons that she said she doesn't miss Mist.
"Keiko loves you," Mori said gently, contemplatively. "She loves you so much that she's taken what she thought was an enormous risk for you. Please don't worry about that, by the way—I'd have done the same if I had another person I loved that much, except more subtly so it couldn't be traced back to me except by guesswork.
"When did she open up her heart enough to start loving people?" she said with distant wonder.
Ami's flat out telling Hazou that if she cared for someone, she'd do things that couldn't be traced back to her? I can't tell if that's a moment of rare thoughtlessness, a well-considered admission of truth to have Hazou wondering if his luck ties back to Ami, or if it's an unsubtle reminder of her prowess and that Hazou would be better served to have her as an ally, rather than an enemy?
Also, I love that Keiko's exceeded Ami's expectations for her. Keiko has grown, matured, and bloomed far beyond what Ami thought her capable of --she's grown beyond the shell that her sister feared she would remain. I like this. I like that we have concrete proof that we're good for Keiko and that Keiko's better for our interactions with her. I like that someone --who knew Keiko before we did --can practically
chart the astronomical growth that she's gone through. Yes. I like this. Thank you.
"Good," Mori said. "Nothing is more important than control.
She needs therapy... we
all need therapy. But barring that, maybe she could use a friend?
"So, are we heading back, or have you decided to err on the side of 'love interest'?" [...] "Ami, you do realise that if anything happened, Keiko would kill me and everything you told me today would be a complete waste of time?"
You know, if Keiko's given enough time to truly, wholly trust Ami in the way that siblings should, and if we allow for time enough for Hazou to and Ami to grow comfortable with each other (whatever the amount of years that the mods/writers feel comfortable with), I could see them forming a relationship --or a close friendship, at least.
I wonder if that was Ami's plan from the start. I wonder if she saw Hazou, saw his personality and his familial dynamic with Keiko and thought "well, there's a person with a compatible personality and perspective. Let's test the waters and see if he'd make a tolerable
tool pawn friend." Though, if Ami really sees her life in such an objective manner and genuinely thinks that far ahead, then poor Hazou never had a chance.
[x] thank Keiko for being best!sister. We don't actually give her positive feedback unprompted very much.
I add my vote to this (is that how this works?). Keiko is a treasured family member and Hazou has expressed worry about her self esteem issues before. Furthermore, her suggestion helped him
significantly. It'd be in line with his character to thank her for her help, reassure her that Ami doesn't hate her (see: "she's taken what she thought was an enormous risk"). We'd have to make sure that Keiko doesn't dodge or dismiss her own contributions. Keiko deserves to know how much Hazou cares about her. She's... a little insecure.
