• Consider contacting Ami and Ren to coordinate political activities in order to ensure that Hiashi doesn't take the hat, because a hostile Leaf is the last thing they want. They should be willing to help in avoiding that to whatever degree they can, such as by providing Mori analysis, plans, and advice.
This seems like something that could get us declared traitors if it got out. Conspiring with a foreign power for something like the Hokage position seems like potential political suicide, especially because they'd know it too. If we did this and got away with it, then Ami or Ren could potentially end us at their leisure by leaking their involvement.

Ain't fucking around with Xenoforo's shitty bullet points:

* Catch up with Mari
** Walking meeting.
** Briefly: Mari informs what she will do.
** Briefly: Inform Mari Hazo's plan of actions. Let Mari adjust plan if necessary.
** Let Mari continues what she needs to do.

OK so I'm going to compromise by discussing the plan with Mari in privacy (in the manor) but then letting her do her thing. Is this acceptable?

Yes. We can't take responsibility if she doesn't inform us of what she's doing and give Hazou the option to call her off.

Oh yeah, do we send a message to the Snake Clan?

Also informing the Pangolin about Jiraiya's death might be bad, they might turn on them, now that they don't have access to an S-rank ninja sealmaster who can give them Skytowers if necessary.

Alright, thanks everyone.
[X] Action Plan: Gathering Allies

Word Count: I'll figure it out later.
  • Bring Mari back inside.
    • We trust you, but we need your advice on our next moves (below).
    • What were you going to do, anyway?
  • Read Jiraiya's will and answers.
    • Focus on whatever instructions he has for us if he's dead, and apply them to our future actions.
  • Meet with people.
    • Optimize with the clan first.
    • Tsunade:
      • Schedule a meeting in advance, but we have Jiraiya's last message to her and want to meet her ASAP.
        • Offer to bring her chakra water and a variety of meals and alcohol.
      • Offer our condolences for her losses, and give her Jiraiya's message to her. Let her vent.
      • We're planning to adopt Naruto, as per Jiraiya's wishes. Is he OK for visitors?
      • Talk about !Hiashi's broadsheet. How accurate is it?
      • Ask her if she is going to make a bid for the hat. State that we are absolutely behind her if she is.
        • If not, how about Naruto?
    • Naruto:
      • Schedule ahead. ONLY do this if he's functioning.
      • Introduce ourselves, and offer our condolences for his losses. Let him vent.
      • If Jiraiya left Naruto anything, give that to him.
      • Jiraiya wanted us to adopt you once you were recovered. It's still your choice; we'll support you no matter your decision.
      • Relay Tsunade's answer on becoming Hokage. Ask if he wants to make a bid (if she said no) or if he's going to back her.
  • Misc. stuff:
    • Ask Mari what it means to be a Clan Head, and about politics in general. She's been our Acting Clan Head during the Exams.
      • How to declare clan secrets, and what protections it gives.
      • All the clan heads and their political leanings.
    • Investigate good adoption targets: Nakano and co., Lee, clanless Jonin like Kabuto.
    • Investigate the broadsheet.
      • It's been printed, ask the Nara who has access to their printing presses.
      • Visit bars, work at hospitals, and check public newscenters to gauge public sentiment towards other countries.
        • Maybe ask Minori what really happened?
    • Ask Kagome if he's willing to teach more apprentices Sealing.

This feels like a thirty minute conversation then a five minute planning session.

Declaring stuff secrets does not immediately need to be done right now. That could be answered by Jiraiya or tabled until family dinner. Ditto for clan adoption.

Investigating broadsheet probably doesn't need Mari's advice, except for suspicious misinformation and lack of knowledge on its origin.

Mari may be making the (better-informed as a social jounin) decision here that her time is better spent out doing things than getting and giving information from and to us.

How about I specify to ask her advice on only our meetings with Tsunade and Naruto? I think those were the only points of concern.

My plan is briefly inform her what we plan to do.

Mari may be making the (better-informed as a social jounin) decision here that her time is better spent out doing things than getting and giving information from and to us.

And leave the clan head with no guidance on what they should do? It's literally a five minute conversation.

Still catching up...

So I made some rewording to the plan to make it less "asking about advice", but I don't know if it made it better or worse. Could you check for me?

Looks good.

I'm tempted to add a sentence grabbing Mari and dragging her back home to talk politics. Does anyone have any objections?

Only that we should ask Mari what she intends. Maybe she really needs to go right now to do something very important. We shouldn't be dragging her around. She might be compromised in other areas, but here we should be willing to trust her judgement if she is convicted.

I'm not really worried that she will take drastic action. That is, she is definitely going to take drastic action. But that is exactly what we asked for, and exactly what we need right now. I would prefer not trying to hamstring her now due to essentially a flinch response to her leaving as she did.

EDIT: Also, adopting missing-nin may now be thinkable, but it is definitely not something to do casually.

Hrmmm. Are there any relatively safe actions we could take to shift the Overton Window on this topic?

(Not a question for EJ or QMs, just musing out loud.)

Is this something that needs to be done immediately? Seems a bit excessive given the rest of what we have going on. We can tackle "Approach this list of people about adoption" in another update after having a team meeting about it to make sure everyone is on the same page.

I'm...*shakes hand about*...meh? I don't mind doing this later but would imagine that some people want this done ASAP, plus we don't know if we can talk to Tsunade and Naruto.

I'm in favor of doing it immediately for these two. We pretty much already know what the outcome is going to be.

The Tsunade and Naruto convos are important enough that she can spare the time. If we fuck those up badly then we're screwed six ways to sunday.

@faflec I like it, you have my sword. Is it worth mentioning to Tsunade about being acting Hokage if Naruto is recovering but likely interested?

Changes made.

This is a feature, not a bug. We get some use out of Mari (instead of her sitting around like a lump), she dies, then we try to get Hana. Hazo gets Momma back plus a reliable guide to the full power of Kurosawa powers, and we can use Mari-sensei's martyrdom for Team and Clan as a convenient inspirational point.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not. But, seeing as this completely goes against Hazou's character, And ignores the fact that in and out of character we've spent years with Mari (plus losing a social spec Jonin that we're just getting back right now would be huge), I'm going to assume it's a joke. Wanting people to die because they aren't convenient is kind of the opposite of uplift, isn't it?

(If this is a joke, I'm sorry for ruining it. But my reactions on a more functional Mari are 1) Oh thank the sage 2) In what way am I now worried about her snapping?)

Edit: Sorry if this came across as aggressive or confrontational, I am just happy to see a character that's been struggling to function up and around with purpose, even if it's misguided, and want to continue helping Mari within the confines of our situation.

There was some conversation that basically boiled down to "let's reduce spoons usage for the QMs and do this part next voting cycle" or something like that.

We're talking to Tsunade first but don't think it'd be necessary for a temporary Hokage, given that if Naruto's functional enough to say that then he will hopefully recover without issue, and can be elected without being at 100%.
I think Gathering Allies is a great plan. My only worries is the scheduling issue.
Could you expand on this; I might be able to fix if I know the issue?
