On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

[] Plan All the Griffon Stuff
-[] [Simple] Warded Aeries: [Cost: (2 -1) =1 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc. 3 actions
--[] At QM discretion, use up to T3 materials freely on this project where appropriate. Small amounts of T4 Elder Frostwyrm Hide may also be used.
-[] Boon from the Sky: [Cost: Start Request, [Difficult] Plated Skies Pt. 1:] A bundle of his crest feathers. In exchange, he expects a suit of armour.
-[] The Grand Conclave/Rhunkalbrogg: [Cost: 1 action] 1 Action.
--[] Optional Write-in: Your Adamant bar and blueprint of an Adamant Furnace, and a shard of Voidstone.
-[] [Simple] Vent Venting Pt. ?: [Cost: 2 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc.
--[] Religious Donation: Gain 2 progress. if taken no action input required, but can add actions to overflow if desired. Lose rights to the land itself, Temple of Valaya will pay and provide material.
-[] [Simple] Cave Clearing Pt. 1: [Cost: 3 actions]
--[] Petition the Hold: [Cost: variable favours] Gain 1 progress per 10 favour, can be taken multiple times to autocompletion. 30 Favor.
-[] Dragon Ogre Autopsy: [Cost: 6 actions] Student of the Odd will proc. 1 Action.
--[] Destructive Research: [Cost: 3 Shaggoth Corpses, 9 Dragon Ogre Corpses] Gain 2 Progress, can be taken multiple times. Three Times.

This specific plan is about going full tilt into the Griffon Aeries, taking the boon, clearing up the autoclearables, and doing the Dragon Ogre autopsy in order to clear that for both the Banner I want to do and the King of the Skies armor.

Also in terms of concerns for the furnaces its worth remembering they're big enough for about one bar of Pure Gromril, and that dwarf wagons are sturdy stuff. Our baggage can be carried along on wheels.

We need to get an apprentice. Snorri is going nuts without apprentices to boss around. Plus with Yorri around, it might have some intersting effects. Our new apprentice might get a higher chance of getting the trait "Student of the Odd" with Yorri deciding to stick around.
I'm pretty sure that most people just want at least one more turn before getting an apprentice since we got lucky that Yorri decided to stay this turn and so people want to take advantage of that. Imagine that people would be perfectly willing to get an apprentice next turn. Hell, if we are lucky we might be able get offered an apprentice at the Conclave. It happened with Snerra and if we are really lucky said apprentice may at least have enough training that they can do simple requests right away.

We very much are in a post-apocalyptic scenario. Every other runelord in the north is dead. The majority of northern holds fell. Even our hold, which survived best, suffered ruinous casualties. It's not a continuous apocalypse like the Time of Woe, but it very much is post-apocalyptic. We may well go on to thrive, but now is the moment when we should be focused on ensuring that, not on blue skies research.
But isn't the conclave we're going to suppose to fix that? The lack of Runelords I mean and while the north suffered we will recover and rather quickly with Morgrim here overseeing reconstruction efforts and reclamation efforts. Now the casualties hurt and the only thing that will fix that is time but I feel like we shouldn't overreact to the lack of Runelords after all it will soon be fixed with the Conclave.

Master Yorri, can you believe him?" Jorri says
Yorri, Jorri and Snorri enter a bar, the bartender says "Bah, back in my day we didn't name beardlings to make them rhyme."
Just an FYI, its probably easier and just as effective to bring a blueprint (cyphered of course) instead of physically lifting the massive structure of Pure Gromril, that and you can't physically move it, at least very easily.

I mean you can, more power to ya and all that.
If we put enough actions into the Warrior, can we have retroactively completed it before we set off and use it to carry it?
Second question, can we turn the corpse of Kholek into a gronti?

Except that it have been stated that we can't actually move the forge. what we can do is take a heavely encrypted blueprint for it

That is a vote I will get behind. Honestly more than others, I too really, really want that Dragon Ogre stuff done.

You can quote me if it wins and I'm not voting for an apprentice next turn.

No, it was edited. It's just much easier to do that, it's not impossible to bring a furnace.

Recognising an already existing master runesmith as being ready for the responsibilities of being a runelord does very approximately nothing whatsoever to help. It may very well even be negative, as those new runelords will have extra responsibilities and so even less time to teach the next generation of apprentices.

The problem is that we've suffered vast casualties amongst runesmiths of all levels of experience, and if senior runesmiths decide that their theoretical research is more important than replenishing their numbers then the results are quite obvious. This is likely to be a time when many surviving runesmiths have found insight or interesting materials, and so be tempted to put off apprentices. It seems likely that we'll see a large set of lost generations, potential runesmiths that couldn't find a teacher because they were either dead or busy. The window to be accepted as a runesmith seems very short, a decade or two.

I also edited my post to consider what research actually achieves when sharing knowledge is so rare and usually happens between master and apprentice. We're seeing that here with Yorri and Snorri. No one else has ever taught Snorri anything as far as I know, which just reinforces the importance of having apprentices, simply as a force multiplier for the research we do.

So this is my first time designing Rune combos on what runes to give to KoTS's kids, let me know if I did something wrong.
[] Dex Griffin Combo: Thunderstrike Armor
- [] Choose: Rune of Lightning with Kholek Blood, Rune of Speed, and Master Rune of Gromril
[] Str Griffin Combo: Reflect Armor
- [] Choose: Rune of Spellbreaking, Master Rune of Spite, and Rune of Preservastion
or
[] Str Griffin Combo: Mountainheart (from the test combo list)
- [] Choose: Master Rune of Gromril, Rune of Fortitude, and Rune of Preservation

i'll probebly vote griffon stuff becouse i want to wait on the apprentice till we finish the armour and it will at least ersearch the dragon ogres

So just going to remind people that Jorri, Snorri's brother, just lost an arm and we did say we would make him another one. That kind of thing is why I would like at least one action towards motion or mind, AKA the projects likely to improve prosthetics we can make, since we literally get multiple actions for a few which would let us finish a lot quicker and Yorri is only for sure staying this turn. That said would like to spend 1-2 actions for the aeries. We do owe the griffins after all, though anything more than two actions just seems extremely excessive since the aeries are already half way done meaning that 2 actions put into it would give us 3 actions and thus 2 overflow.

For me doing prod for prod and using those prods this turn is a must, doing so shaves turns of the research we need to do. Instead of gaining +1 action per 3 in research we are gaining about +6 for 3 or 4 actions. Not taking advantage of that is extremely short sighted as it is not something we can count on recurring and we will be doing the research at some point.

I have sympathy for this view.

I asked before, but does anyone know if we can take Prod for Prod more than once?

Particularly as we can spend multiple prods on Movement of Things.

This is likely the last turn that Yorri is here, and last time that we get to use his knowledge in shaving off a large chunk of research time, and thereby save AP.

Let's not waste it.

Not to mention, it is inevitable that for next several turns after this one, we will be doing griffon-related things, because there's a lot of it.

[] Plan: Movement of Griffons
-[] Boon from the Sky: [Cost: Start Request, [Difficult] Plated Skies Pt. 1:]
--[] Request that he look for a particularly powerful creature and bring us its corpse
-[] Prod for Prod: [Cost: 1 action] Gain x3 Yorri prods.
-[] The Grand Conclave/Rhunkalbrogg: [Cost: 1 action]
--[] Optional Write-in: a Shard of Voidstone, a blueprint of our smelter, and an Adamant bar
-[] [Simple] Warded Aeries: [Cost: (2 -1) =1 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc. [2 Actions]
-[] [Simple] Vent Venting Pt. ?: [Cost: 2 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc.
--[] Religious Donation: Gain 2 progress.
-[] [Simple] Cave Clearing Pt. 1: [Cost: 3 actions]
--[] Petition the Hold: [Cost: variable favours] Gain 1 progress per 10 favour, can be taken multiple times to autocompletion. [30 Favour]
-[] The Movement of Things Pt. 2: [Cost: (8 -3) =5 actions] Student of the Odd will proc. [1 Action and x3 Prods]

I started with Bungie's plans for this one since I liked like 75% of each one. Yorri is a research multiplier so I want to maximise that while he's here. The turn after he's gone is apprentice time. I left the Kots armor and dragon ogres for next turn. This way we can use all the yorri prods, and still get good overflow into the griffons.

[] Plan Movement, Aerie, No Apprentices
-[] Prod for Prod: [Cost: 1 action] Gain x3 Yorri prods. 1 Action
-[] The Grand Conclave/Rhunkalbrogg: [Cost: 1 action]. 1 Action
--[] Optional Write-in: Your Adamant bar, a furnace blueprint, one voidstone
-[] [Simple] Warded Aeries: [Cost: (2 -1) =1 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc. 2 Actions
--[] Use up to t3 materials at the gm's discretion.

--[ ] Prod Yorri: [Cost: 1 prod] Gain 1d2+1 progress, can be taken multiple times. 3 prods

I understand but at the moment we are but one dwarf there is only so much we can do. And while the loss of the other runesmiths hurt we can't single handedly replace there numbers and while you are right that we can't hole ourselves up and just do research we shouldn't be constantly looking for new students either that's why we should wait a another 3-4 decades before we get another student. We should pace ourselves and get a new student every six turns after the last one leaves. It gives us time to do other things while still maintaining a semi-steady rate of new runesmiths.

boon from the sky doesn't take an action it just means we are starting that action chain

You know, I was initially iffy on working on the Aeries, but after reading the text of the option, I can't help but feel that it is a gauntlet thrown down by Morgrim.
His followers have completed the structure in its entirety. But the Runes to be used, you are told, were left purposefully blank by Morgrim. His words something akin to, "Let Thungni's scions decide if it's worth their time," you are told.
And, I don't know about you, but I feel like it would be really cool to take up that challenge and add to the structure that an ancestor has designed himself, and, in my mind, the sooner the better.

Is it optimal? No, probably not.

Would it be cool? Yeah, I think it would.

Is it worth the effort? Yes, I think it is.

Even 2 actions would mean 2 overflow actions devoted to it, but 3 actions would have 4 overflow actions. I'm not sure if that large amount of overflow would be worth it, but it would be truly magnificent.
