On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

So we are aware that we aren't the only other one making Adament. Super rare metal, I know, but do we know of any other Hold that is using it industrially? (Or how ever that could be applied to Runesmiths). If so, if they sent a Runesmith or two with the Throng, we can pick their brains! (And hopefully get a bit of credit towards that research project.)

I know it is a low chance, but I am hopeful.

Maybe someone from the Brotherhood of Dron, perhaps?

How many other runesmiths learned of this inherent connection? Thungni for certain, the Burudin likely knew, as would the Brotherhood of Dron, mayhaps a few of the older masters too. Well, it's not like you're in any position to ask them for help, let alone sure they'd even give it to you, to be frank.

EDIT: Disregard this. Needed to reread a bit closer.

Industrial use doesn't really mesh with extremely rare metal.

It depends how much you need to make a big difference, assume adamant is extremely hard wearing and has a low friction co-efficient it would make for extremely effective bearings.
Smith's would revolt and declare war against any engineer who tries. Engineers probably would too. This is the kind of stuff Grimnir wears armor of and Elder Runelords probably have one talisman and maybe a weapon.

Also why would it have any ot that? It's a super dense super durable material with Anti-Magic properties and potential Rune enhancing effects higher than Pure Gromril. That's about what we know is special about it.

Ye the most I could see being acceptable for small stuff is as a arrowhead specifically enchanted against demons and even that would be pushing the envelope

I don't think that's true at all. Yes it's used as the material to make Grimnirs armour which means it's obviously extremely hard, and presumably has other properties that makes it good for armour. That doesn't have any implication towards whether it would be acceptable to use in other applications and indeed I expect most smiths and engineers don't even know what Adamant is.

Note how until we created Adamant ourselves Snorri didn't know about it. He only realised that Grimnirs equipment is made from it after interacting with him, other engineers and Smiths would flat out not even know about its existence.

So yea, my conclusion is at least thus far there is no cultural impetous to only keep adamant for weapons of war because no one really knows about it at all. We're in a position to set cultural expectations for what Adamant can be used for depending on how much of the stuff we can produce at the end of the rune metal pt4.

Well wear resistance is heavily related to the hardness of an object. Gromril and Adamant are both presumably amongst the literal hardest metals in existence in the warhammer world if you could shape them effectively then for use cases where long lasting bearings are needed they'd presumably be super effective (again assuming they don't have bad friction co-efficients) any way my point was more that industrial usage of them is probably possible again dependant on what we find out from rune metal prt4. Obviously if it turns out that we can only make a few bars of adamant per decade then it's basically going to be pointless even for single use one of weapons of war unless you're kitting out a gods panopoly.

Maybe, but what other applications? They dont even have Gunpoweder yet let alone electricity. I doubt it would be a perfect superconductor or something. Is it lighter than Gromril and is Gromril lighter than Steel? Is so maybe as gyrocopter playing or material if you want to be extremely luxurious. But unlikely.

It's incredibly durable, borderline indestructible, great for inscribing Runes on and Impervious to Magic. Basically the perfect dwarf armor and weaponry metal. Maybe somebody will make a Adamant cannonball or two. But that's about as far as modern uses will probably go.

To be clear, by the comment '(Or how ever that could be applied to Runesmiths)' I meant more than just 1 person being able to make it/shape it in a Karak.

IIRC Gromril is lighter than steel but not exceptionally so, it's not like GW has ever given us a technical spec for gromril though.. :p

We decided to name it ourselves, not use a name we already knew, that means we thought it was a new discovery at the time. So we don't know who else is making it, beyond now assuming the gods have a source somehow.
Curses! You are completely right! Thank you for pointing that out.

Editing my previous comment to point out my ignorance.

EDIT: Also, is our progress actually feeding into the Ancestor Gods? I am just asking because if us starting down the path to learn to make Adament, flow partially to Thungni automatically? Or did he find it out himself. Just curious.

Actually IRL ultra valuable ultrahard metals do get used industrially...as tools, they're just so much superior and require less replacement that a lot of the precision machining we use today wouldn't be possible without these alloys doped with rare materials.

I reckon nobody's going to object to gromril picks, chisels, saws, files, hammers and anvils, because anyone who could make Gromril also knows how important those are. And you need those to WORK gromril anyways.

Yea, that's what I figured would be the case, you're probably going to need crude adamant tools to make better adamant tools to be able to work adamant properly at the 'dorf quality' level.

Sounds like the first thing we should make out of Adamant is some tools.

Huh, I have a clarification question. The underway, was the progress until we hit where we needed to be to meet the other holds in their dig, or was it to meet where they were stalled/already dug too?

Like, was the progress to meet in the middle in some agreed upon place or did we straight up basically dig to their already present underway connection like the koolaid man?
You're carving a bit into Ungor's designated pathway to meet up with them. Your defensive maze doesnt start until the underway officially enters your treaty recognized "territory" to prevent any diplomatic incidents.
@soulcake wouled you mind telling us about the other possible synergies that could be unlocked during character creation?
Two that come to mind would be direct descent and Angkra and picking Karaz A Karak. She'd have been your aunt/greataunt and you would have ended up working in the same city as her so there'd have been an earlier use of the influence system there.

Gottri had a minor one with the Dragonslayer company and Azul, you'd have given them all rune hammers as inspiration from your master, and your work in azul would've reflected that.

Every master had a synergy with every location and every relation. All of them would've unlocked some plot hook or storyline but some did end up being more immediately useful to you by virtue of the synergy strength.

[X] Plan Khazukan Kazakit-ha
-[X] March: Grimnir the Valiant calls, who are you to not answer? Campaign with the Great Throng as it marches through the region. For the next ten years you will walk amongst the greatest examples of your people, partaking in the campaigns. Smiting enemies and perhaps even discussing things with a few dwarfs while you're at it. [Cost: 4 actions] Interlude Turns. These are not battle turns, Interlude Turns will be a series of updates happening over the decade, you get one choice an interlude turn. The number of Interlude turns = your unaltered total actions (which is 5)
--[X] 4 Actions
-[X] [Simple] Torques A Plenty: Elder Brokk has asked you specifically to create a set of Runic Torques, all meant to facilitate proper communication between what is clearly an avian and a dwarf. You remember Master Yorri told you about the time he bargained a few feathers off a Great Eagle. He never told you how, but you remember being taught a few odd runes in your past, just have to figure out which combination worked for Master Yorri. Maybe his book has something? Worst come to worst you could send a letter to the Dwarf. [Cost: 3 Actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc.
