On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Honestly, we should figure out what people want to use the Greedy One's heart for. There's talk about using it to build a golem, using it for a healing effect on a banner, and mentions of a few other misc things such as personal armor. Personally I favor using it in a banner for all that the golem idea sounds cool.

Edit: mostly just want to know if the golem project has popular support.

[] Plan Leaving the nest Underway
-[] Teach your apprentices.
--[] Release them
-[] [Simple] The Underway: 4 Snorri actions, 1 Apprentice action

This plan that @Thomasfoolery suggested mostly seems like what folks want to do so I'll go with it when time comes for voting. The big points in support of it are that;

Grimnir is coming, so we want logistical connections to the South via the Underway so that the Great Throng can have a steady supply route that isn't overland through Troll Country and the Mountains. Stuff is also liable to get worse above ground as the world worsens and we also want a logistical connection South so that we can still make Orders reliably. Furthermore it serves as an evacuation channel if necessary.

Additionally doing it this way means the Underway project will auto-complete next turn regardless of what we do, so we can either go all in again to ensure the defenses are built while its being carved out or do something else like 3 actions into it and picking up the banner request or more research.

Basically gives us freedom.

For Fjolla and Dolgi it's also mentioned in the Release Them text that they will probably stay nearby, and soulcake has told us directly that they're not stupid so they won't go out and travel around if its really bad out there.

You know, thinking some more about the Golem, I wonder if it would possible count as a Warmachine, as if so, the Master Rune of Disguise could be hilarious, for Surprise!Golem. Even better if it's actually a golem-mech big enough to carry a bolt thrower as a side arm.
They do, the Master Rune of Awakening we have is an Engineering Rune. Problem is that we couldn't put the Master Rune of Disguise and Master Rune of Awakening on it at the same time.

We make a Hold (City) shield Out! of the Heart as Protection against demons and siege weapons.
@soulcake is using the Heart in a Difficult Request for something like the entire Hold's defenses or something like this possible. The write in actions only go to the scale of "very big golem".

It'd be interesting to do, but not sure we physically can.

We have no means to do this unfortunately, besides maybe the Rune of Fortitude and that's a stretch. As cool as it might be, and it would take up valuable Rune space too.
Nah more like an advancement on the rune of animation or something.

I dunno to me it seems like the logical next step is making thing smart after making it able to move.

You could make a big ol Sarsen Stone, and that would be on the scale of a very large gronti required for something like that. You could make it a (nonmoving) statue as well. Doesnt even have to be a dwarf, maybe a dragon or something idk. up to you.

Of course. If we still wanted to achieve this we'd probably have to spend the painful amount of actions required to do something like turning the Master Rune of Disguise into a Banner Rune (which could be very useful on its own to make invisible units), and mount a banner with it on the golem.

Thinking of talisman runes for a golem, given their weight, I'm wondering about a Master Rune of Passage, to avoid the embarrassment of the golem sinking into the mud during a summer campaign or the snow during a winter one.

Master Rune of Grungni with a Rune of Healing with GOH applied and Rune of Fortitude sounds really powerful as a Banner combo while sticking with the "inspired by the Ancestors" thing we have going. And something we could apply to the coming Great Throng.

We can still make MULTIPLE golems with Greedy Troll hearts for the extra punch, as well as Adamant and whatever we get from our studies of the Master Rune of Animation.

Edit: Never mind, the Master Rune of Grungni was changed.

Huh... wonder if we could redo the Master Rune of Valaya for the hold with the heart as an ingredient and just have massive protections for our hold.

- Greedy One's Heart Trait Revealed, Pulling from the Deep: Energy eternal, drawing without end from the deepest places of the earth and the oldest magics. Whatever Rune is made from this baleful thing will not only be incredibly powerful, beyond even the scope of the original rune, but also never falter, never cease, and endure until the world's ending.
O_O

...That's going in the golem's awakening rune

Well its basically a case of in my mind: What is a Golem/Gronti for? Being a great big nigh-unbreakable and tireless guardian that squishes gribblies.

It being sapient both does and doesn't help such endeavors. It helps because its more intelligent, and can make more detailed judgments as well as tactics but on the other hand its really liable to take up Rune space which might be used to make it more tough and more killy. Even if the rune space taken up isn't on the golem itself, but instead its equipment. Its orthogonal is my thought, and we can get stuff like more skillful fighting with the Rune of Brotherhood on a helmet or talisman if we wanted. Or putting a combo of Rune of Parrying (supernatural parrying skill), Rune of Striking (Weapon moves/guides you to strike vulnuerable points), Rune of Speed (Go really fast), on a weapon it uses.

Giant black griffon that can use magic of a sort. Seemed like a gimme.

Of course the real question is whether this griffon will continue to leave dwarfs alone the more it 'evolves' as it continues to eat Greedy hearts. Because it wanted the silver amulet but backed off (to take some gold form the troll). That is 100% non-natural behavior for the species as they don't care about silver, gold etc so it had to have come from eating the hearts. This time it's common sense outweighed it's greed, but will that change over time?
All the more reason to grab him as soon as possible!
Out of curiosity, why do Dawi have an anti-calvary stance?
Mostly inertia and conservatism.

They live in mountain where cavalry is generally unneeded, only goats are useful for domestication and those are bad for riding. Creating cavalry are a major change they are not forced to do so they don't. Then when they see other enemy races doing it like human (Pre-empire or Norscan), or Orcs an eventually elves they think 'look at those crazy people riding animals' and now it is a mark of pride so they never change.

Griffon cavalry might be a good way to break that since it does fulfill a niche of getting the Dwarves into the air well before gyro-copters can be invented. I could easily imagine a dwarf army book mentioning the rare relic chariots of the golden age that use now lost ruin to fly with Griffons to pull them, risked only to carry messages in great times of need or in the most critical battles.

We'd be releasing Snerra right after which is... not exactly a good look imo. And the text of Release Them basically goes into pointing out they'd still likely be near or in Kraka Drakk to witness the Underway construction. Overland travel is really hard right now so they don't have a lot of means or ways to go very far until that's done.

Slap it on a banner then. For the golem itself all in on raw durability and power instead.
Master Rune of Awakening, Rune of Stone and Rune of Grungni for Awaken O Dwarf Of Metal?

Also odds are good that they're going to spend their independent effort on the Underway anyways.

To be honest, I'm not sure we'd need a rune to tame this griffin (Greedy Griffin?), it seems to solely eat greedy troll, and we have both an infinite supply of them that keep trying to come kill us, and we're like, one of the foremost troll-meat chefs in the empire.

I want to sink an action into building a griffon feeder in our back yard, can't be that hard to pile up a mountain of troll bodies artfully.
