Okay, good old pros and cons post:

[] [Successor] The ancient urban manufactories of the core

Pros: all of our infrastructure and cities, probably easiest start
Cons: likely most of the Nobility and asshole Elitism, which (along with certain voters) got us into this problem in the first place

[] [Successor] The small yeomen farmers

Pros: likely no elitism, mostly self sufficient
Cons: no real major cities, not very centralized or wealthy

[] [Successor] The wealthy trade cities of the west

Pros: Start out with a lot of money, likely not elitist based on bloodlines but instead of wealth, will sorta be Trelli
Cons: Will sorta be Trelli, likely to be the least Ymaryn in culture

[] [Successor] The breadbasket of the lowlands

Pros: super food wealthy, lots of population
Cons: surrounded by splinters, not many institutions and places of knowledge

[] [Successor] The primordial temples

Pros: Most like the Ymaryn in culture and religion, keeps most of the institutional knowledge
Cons: most like the Ymaryn in culture and religion, not much industry.

[] [Successor] Among the patoralists that filled emptied spaces, fascinated by the old culture

Pros: Proto Nomads
Cons: Proto Nomads

With that in mind:

[X] [Successor] The breadbasket of the lowlands
[X] [Revival] Long neglected diplomacy

Far enough away from the Core to not have gone full Ming, but close enough to be reasonably developed. Also most likely to stay relevant with gigantic food exports.
please let us make friends :(

Also, for everyone blaming AN for our collapse, there was clearly a vote that several people stated would lead to pissing off the Khan.
People voted for it anyone, out of hubris or a need for "excitement", at least according to what the voters stated their reasonings were.

A bribe is not a country.

I don't think anyone was that stupid, if he tried shit after we ATTEMPTED diplomacy then I'd have been for the total war, cuz it's obviously what it would take.

I think that's what bugs me most.

We didn't TRY, AT ALL to see if peaceable solutions could be met. Regardless of whether it would work or not, IC it would have been a far better cultural lesson for us.

not "Our arrogance cost us", instead it could've been "peace may not work, but try regardless."
Seeing what this khan was willing to do over a fucking trade snub I think we can come to the conclusion that diplomacy wasn't going to get us anywhere. Besides our options were basically accept demands, bribe, or roll over so diplomacy didn't exactly look like an appealing offer.

It absolutely is when the other option is collapse.

You can not negotiate with a tiger when your head is in its maw!

I'm a bit whiplashed by the sheer magnitude of the timeskips though, we just heard that gunpowder was invented in the east and then suddenly the not!mongoles have them along with not!Chinese engineers. They obviously didn't invet it, so they somehow managed to conquer the Not!song dynasty and then make and equip their armies with gunpowder in a year! Frankly, that's completely bullshit.
What were you expecting? This was from the POV of a an inwardly focused, ancient civilization whose strongest impulse upon hearing about some foreign technological development is "ignore it, the barbarians don't know anything". The fact that we were even getting rumors about it meant it must have been pretty widely disseminated.

When I first read the update, I was expecting them to have cannons.

I am fine with the currently winning vote too. Why wouldn't I want Phygriff the Unifier?

A civilization of a thousand years was just destroyed, and knowledge of incalculable value was lost, the worst thing is because we're inevitably going loose traits from this a lot of what made the Ymaryn fun to play will also disappear, their uniqueness. We built up a civilization unlike any other something that would have been truly interesting to play all the way to the space age and now we're moving away from the uniqueness.
I mean, some of the uniqueness can be kept if you go for e.g. primordial temples + culture rather than making a play for power.

Maintain the core knowledge, (sacred forest is where all our knowledge is, together with Redshore and possibly redhills)

Open arms to all the splinters with diplomacy.

That doesn't excuse this, we didn't have gunpowder weaponry ourselves to leak.

Just grab some black powder, put in pot, and sneak into fortifications. Not hard at all. Like, not!China have made enough of the stuff for it to flow as rumor to the other side of the world that is nearly completely closed off it's ears. What was the insult Khan group expecting?

So with all those manufacturers turning towards war and with knowledge of how Gunpowder can be used how scary do you think are army will turn out to be?

Not! Europe better prepare itself.

Reunification will just make us a clone of the HK, which all of you should be opposed to
