Shit sucks. But what can we do?I hate that this only happened because our resident nutcases had votes that weighted heavily for them.
I was going to vote(I was at the gym and needed the exercise) but AN closed it way too early.

I JUST WANT TO DO DAMAGE CONTROL.I will be very amused if the core plus land combo gives us Monarchy and people are shocked about it.
Seeing what this khan was willing to do over a fucking trade snub I think we can come to the conclusion that diplomacy wasn't going to get us anywhere. Besides our options were basically accept demands, bribe, or roll over so diplomacy didn't exactly look like an appealing offer.A bribe is not a country.
I don't think anyone was that stupid, if he tried shit after we ATTEMPTED diplomacy then I'd have been for the total war, cuz it's obviously what it would take.
I think that's what bugs me most.
We didn't TRY, AT ALL to see if peaceable solutions could be met. Regardless of whether it would work or not, IC it would have been a far better cultural lesson for us.
not "Our arrogance cost us", instead it could've been "peace may not work, but try regardless."
What were you expecting? This was from the POV of a an inwardly focused, ancient civilization whose strongest impulse upon hearing about some foreign technological development is "ignore it, the barbarians don't know anything". The fact that we were even getting rumors about it meant it must have been pretty widely disseminated.I'm a bit whiplashed by the sheer magnitude of the timeskips though, we just heard that gunpowder was invented in the east and then suddenly the not!mongoles have them along with not!Chinese engineers. They obviously didn't invet it, so they somehow managed to conquer the Not!song dynasty and then make and equip their armies with gunpowder in a year! Frankly, that's completely bullshit.
Considering we have been super charging the nomads because we leak tech like mad, it really isn't.

You can not negotiate with a tiger when your head is in its maw!
WE PAY/BRIBE OF ALL THE NOMADS WHO ACCEPT AND SMASH THE REST.The People had never bent the knee in the millennia we played as them. Why do so now?
Also, did anyone not see this as screaming foreshadowing? The fear of Ymaryn steel and the rain of crossbow bolts was more than sufficient to send barbarian raiders running, flashes of smoke and thunder were wholly unnecessary
I mean, some of the uniqueness can be kept if you go for e.g. primordial temples + culture rather than making a play for power.[X] [Successor] The ancient urban manufactories of the core
[X] [Revival] A territorial reunification
A civilization of a thousand years was just destroyed, and knowledge of incalculable value was lost, the worst thing is because we're inevitably going loose traits from this a lot of what made the Ymaryn fun to play will also disappear, their uniqueness. We built up a civilization unlike any other something that would have been truly interesting to play all the way to the space age and now we're moving away from the uniqueness.
The People regularly paid bribes to make nomads go away. The People had never bent the knee in the millennia we played as them. Why do so now?
That doesn't excuse this, we didn't have gunpowder weaponry ourselves to leak.
It doesn't need to, the Ymaryn are still insular. So with all those manufacturers turning towards war and with knowledge of how Gunpowder can be used how scary do you think are army will turn out to be?
Not! Europe better prepare itself.
