Going for Territorial reunification attempts could make us just another would be conqueror asshole, and we don't even know if we'll suceed.

Meanwhile, diplomacy, "the fire is warm", led to our millenia long cultural flourishing.

Actually, it does because without blackpowder, they wouldn't have been able to breach our defenses in any reasonable amount of time, they would've been bogged down trying to siege fort after fort and city after city, robing them of their biggest advantage (mobility) and we would've crushed them in their now static positions.

I'm a bit whiplashed by the sheer magnitude of the timeskips though, we just heard that gunpowder was invented in the east and then suddenly the not!mongoles have them along with not!Chinese engineers. They obviously didn't invet it, so they somehow managed to conquer the Not!song dynasty and then make and equip their armies with gunpowder in a year! Frankly, that's completely bullshit.
I'm going with the theory that magic is confirmed. Because that's the only honest explanation for...this.

WE PAY/BRIBE OF ALL THE NOMADS WHO ACCEPT AND SMASH THE REST.
WE COULD HAVE HAD THE EASY WAY.

The People regularly paid bribes to make nomads go away.

The thing is he didn't want just a bribe.

As such, when a new warlord arose whose offers for trade seemed a bit too much like demanding tribute rather than the proper channels, many feathers were ruffled by the affair.

I'm not really liking what it looks like we're doing. Core + Territorial Unification makes me worried that the core basically conquered the rest.
That is what I expect, yes. Or a religious crusade, if the religion+unification wins.

You did not notice that the plan is 10ish timeskips from 1000+BC up to 2050 AD? Each vote is covering centuries of time now.

I'd prefer to keep the Ymaryn as close to the old people in character as possible. And I'd rather not conquer the old empire back. Confederation and gradual unification as a multi-part entity seem like a better plan.

No one has come out with a convincing reason to go for diplomacy.

Well. Let's enjoy being a small fish who can't do shit except bribe people.

People want to fuck us over so hard it hurts to watch.

Edit: goddammit.

Yes, and they didn't start out by sending a fuckoff army to attack the nomads.
So invalided.

George IV did. The largest and finest army in Europe was obliterated by a light Mongol scout force, and that was without tactics as silly as trying to engage the best cavalry archers in the world on open steppes. Battle of Caucasus Mountain - Wikipedia

Battle of the Kalka River - Wikipedia another bad idea.

Battle of Mohi - Wikipedia Really bad idea.

Battle of Legnica - Wikipedia
Battle of Chmielnik - Wikipedia
Battle of Tursko - Wikipedia
Battle of Tarczek - Wikipedia

See a pattern?

The people who don't get wrecked by Nomad hordes are the ones who either bribe them into bothering somebody else, or bunker down in fortresses- preferably in poor cavalry terrain, and with the introduction of gunpowder and Chinese siege expertise even the latter strategy came down more to whether the nomads considered taking the fortress to be worth the time than anything else.

Please people, read the definition of apeasement policy.

Believe it or not, extortion payments have a much longer history than just one particularly exciting period in the twentieth century, and the results are often quite different when the people being appeased aren't literal Nazis.

Hm?
Historically Chenghiz started as a noname son of a smalltime khan and ended up conquering most of Asia. As in, Asian continent.
Nomads are positively the most potent conquerors in the world..well, until British colonial empire I guess...

Us stopping him at all, even at the cost of Ymar, is the actual magical part.
Stop autofellating our fucking empire please, nomads are terrifying specifically because us surviving like this was probably a result of 90+ roll, if not a pure nat100.

Culture, because considering how precious people considered application of their modern morals, it'll be a shame to lose it.
Edit: Also diplomacy, because People are about togetherness etc.

Yes. Because going for war, just like every other polity and empire, will of course lead to just magnificent results! You know how that will end? We'll write "unification" on our banners and simply tumble from one war to the next, winning some, losing some, and on the whole becoming just another kingdom at war with its competitors, nothing more. Your way would ensure we become nothing more than a small fish kingdom somewhere in the Caucasus.

Instead, we need to focus on what us once great in the first place. Invest into things besides war, things that actually give us a return in the long run. As we have before.

its how we started, when the People became Three People became One. Taking the vote that gets us valleyhome, sacred forest, and redshore, and the Fire Is Warm policies? its a return to the basics that made us so successful.
