I'm not really liking what it looks like we're doing. Core + Territorial Unification makes me worried that the core basically conquered the rest.

Actually, it does because without blackpowder, they wouldn't have been able to breach our defenses in any reasonable amount of time, they would've been bogged down trying to siege fort after fort and city after city, robing them of their biggest advantage (mobility) and we would've crushed them in their now static positions.

I'm a bit whiplashed by the sheer magnitude of the timeskips though, we just heard that gunpowder was invented in the east and then suddenly the not!mongoles have them along with not!Chinese engineers. They obviously didn't invet it, so they somehow managed to conquer the Not!song dynasty and then make and equip their armies with gunpowder in a year! Frankly, that's completely bullshit.

Depressing, but not unexpected.

Its a great KHAN he'd have won either way!

At least let us be known as the guys who stopped one dead in his tracks and our culture still survived.

In fact I want valley home to be a site that modern archaeologists come back to and think...shit this place has been inhabited constantly since the stone age.

I don't think anyone was that stupid, if he tried shit after we ATTEMPTED diplomacy then I'd have been for the total war, cuz it's obviously what it would take.

I think that's what bugs me most.

We didn't TRY, AT ALL to see if peaceable solutions could be met. Regardless of whether it would work or not, IC it would have been a far better cultural lesson for us.

not "Our arrogance cost us", instead it could've been "peace may not work, but try regardless."

OTL Mongols did the same, they fielded armies with specialists from everywhere between Mesopotamia and China.

The East would likely welcome us back. Without the Core to back them up they'd get mutilated by Nomads pretty quickly. The South wouldn't like getting abused by the Highlanders and would be okay with our return. The North is a major issue. They're basically gone though, so they'd be Nomads we can assimilate and tame more easily than most. The West is going to be a bitch to keep, they knelt quickly and blame us for their cowardice, they like being independent so they can slave and war as they wish, so they're going to be the main people we subjugate. But they're not nice, so screw them.

Some of our people have been conquered by other civs so we must rescue them.

Considering we have been super charging the nomads because we leak tech like mad, it really isn't.
