Have we tested an implosion seal? Like just one? I'd like to make sure it works at all before we call the Stacked version an infinite weapon of mass destruction. Ninja physics is silly in a lot of ways.

As a more serious objection, I don't think the ability to kill other ninjas if we decide to start the fight and they don't know about it is a superweapon. That's just...like, being a ninja. It is a superweapon the same way someone poisoning the food at board game night is a superweapon, or just throwing knives at someone's back. "The Traitor's Hand strikes with the force of a Regiment", and all that. In terms of winning a ninja fight that starts with both sides aware (so, not a real ninja fight), it seems to me like we are still exactly as strong as any other Chunin/Jonen.

@faflec, @Vecht, @Roomba, @Jello_Raptor, what do you think about changing the Mari section this way?:
  • Talk to Mari. Admit your mistake in trying to override Keiko. Reaffirm your full responsibility over any actions she takes to protect the clan.
    • "Clan" includes her: her well-being matters. She shouldn't take actions which would damage her self-image even further, cross new lines.
As @Veedrac pointed out, "protect the members of the clan" is a very vague and unhelpful sentiment — from one point of view, that's Mari was doing, ruthlessly protecting us all from Keiko's mistake. I think this version addresses the issue better, and (attempts to) preempt a failure mode in which Mari executes a bunch of too-ruthless plans somewhere off-screen and decides she's supposed to spiral into pure evil now.

It's not that we can kill some ninja. We can literally destroy all of Konoha

Well, Implosion seals are a Kagome special and Jiraiya was impressed enough by their performance to request some for the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. We haven't tested separate prepping and detonation, because Kagome's content with their current use case of being destroyed by the vacuum and immediately popping the air out, but we could give it a go without much problem.

And yeah, as Oneiros said, it's a superweapon because in one blow we could destroy an entire city. The original physics calcs actually allowed it to destroy the entire continent, but IIRC the current version stands at city-tier maximum damage for sane numbers of the seal. Still, the ability to destroy an entire city in one blow is pretty much a superweapon in this setting.

Honestly, burying it a foot underground would probably do the trick. I'm not sure how strong a concussive force you need to 'destroy' the seal, but a foot of dirt would probably blunt enough of the impact.
Do the seals work when they aren't in contact with the air they are absorbing? Since they are based on storage seals I assumed they stored a contiguous volume.

We might be able to do it with air domes and tunneller's friend seals.

Less confident on this one, but I think they don't need continuous access. Something about sucking the air right out of your lungs.

If not, then we can make a workaround. Build a little structure with a winding hole within that leaves a continuous connection to air without allowing it to hit the seal directly.

Is causing small scale genocide an acceptable responce to the situation at hand?
Maybe. Maybe not. The point is it's an option. Even if we hold back we can inflict serious damage on any force that would act against us. If you add in Tsunade and Naruto we will win any civil war. We are the strongest concentration of fire power in leaf. If our enemies give us time we will have as many S-rankers as Akatsuki did in their prime

I...that's just not true, right? Like, if we had even one WMD we could have used it to win the....gah, never mind.
We make a new WMD design every month.

You don't even need WMD's to take out the Hyuuga. Just drop a box filled with LBF-armed Implosion seals that has compartments loaded with storage seals filled with oil and sawdust from a few hundred meters up in the air while most of them are asleep. If you're worried about accuracy or it going too slow, attach it to a big granite wall.

There you go: the Hyuuga compound is gone along with most of the redshirts. Go clean up the rest by hand.

Tsunade could interfere
Note that Tsunade was in a litter. A woman known for her fierce self-sufficiency was in a litter instead of on her feet.

They have ideas for several WMDs. They do not have any WMDs, nor even a prototype of one, nor even a single experiment to suggest that the ideas are practicable.

Have we tested an implosion seal?
@faflec can undoubtedly correct me, but as far as I'm aware, Hazō has seen an implosion seal used on exactly one occasion. He has never detonated one himself, nor is he capable of making them.

This very much goes back to the "ideas vs execution" squabble that @Jello_Raptor (et al) and I have had on more than one occasion.

I never know how to take this kind of flex. Like 'wow, it is so impressive that we tell ourselves that we could slaughter a bunch of ninja while they sleep. They are probably trembling now."

Like, why doesn't the reverse ever come up? 'We should be petrified of the Hyuga, they could kill us all in our sleep!"

I'm starting to get why Shikamaru told us to do the 5 minute thing. We are acting like we are the only ones who might decide to attack someone.

It would be trivial for a clan in the village to take us out if they caught us by surprise, and it would be trivial to catch us by surprise. Like, what does all this talk about 'we leave it in rubble!' amount to if someone actually makes a move on us? (You let us out of this shadow bind and uncut our throats and give us ten hours to plant bombs in your house and you are DONE!) People keep bragging about how we can kill enemies who don't know we are attacking them, but what I'm not getting is where the connection is between us being able to do that to them, them being able to do that to us, and somehow we are confident that they definitely won't dare to kill us.

Because no one clan in this village would survive a day if they actually seriously defected from the rest on that scale, unless they literally blew the rest up too or decided to get out of dodge immediately after.

It's not in anyones best interests to do this. Just like its not in Shikamaru's best interests to fuck us over for literally no reason.

Because we live in the most heavily fortified area in leaf. If our enemies actually move against us they have to deal with a civil war. A war that they lose because the two S-tankers in Leaf destroy them. Sure they could kill us but it would cost them dearly. If we decide to destroy them we can just leave. The balance of power is firmly on the side of Gōketsu

I am convinced that you are reading an entirely different thread than I am.

Like, a hot minute ago you said that we had 7 WMD's, and the QM showed up a second later to correct that to zero.

You talk about how we are all going to be S class in a short time, but in the thread I'm watching Noburi just got effortlessly owned by Hinata, who is far from being S class.

Now it is us living in the most heavily fortified section of Leaf? Why would the place we've been for a few months outdo the clan fortresses that dozens of Jonin have dwelt in for generations? What about the center of government, or the Tower?

And Naruto is going to fight his own village for us, on the basis of literally one conversation? "Well, that was a great 2 minute talk, I guess I'll die to defend them!".

Look, I don't think I can persuade you. I have never, in my life, wrote words on the internet and had someone come back and be like 'dang, that opened my mind'. It just isn't a skill I have.

But please, look at what the QM has written. In our last update Shikamaru, mr strategist himself, cautioned us to consider just how easy we would be to kill off if someone felt like it. I think that was as direct a warning as we can ever expect to receive. He clearly doesn't share your view of our strength. Perhaps you are a bit overoptimistic?

Point of order:

We have more traps and seals landmined around our house than most people would consider reasonable by a decently large margin.

Thank the Sage for Kagome.

@Walter is clearly the only sane poster in this thread. I agree with everything he's said so far.

[X] Seal: Force Wall Seal
[X] Seal: Skywalker
[X] Seal: Shaped Charge

I assumed that it was a political thing?
Ah well, here's hoping she gets better soon. I remember her PoV section when she was casually holding her own body together from the inside...

Honestly pretty much all of it. We could very much get a letter to Ami and Ren. We know that the Nara are secretly messaging the Mori. No one on our end is going to go after us for sending this message. At the very worst we could have had a civilian deliver the message to Ami if only messaging Ren was the bad idea. He's also downplaying our capabilities to a relatively huge degree. We are backed by Leafs two remaining S-rankers. We have 10% of leaf current jounin. We have roughly 5-10% of leafs seal production. We have an even higher number of its skywalker production. We have a summoner with a second one coming. We have all of Jiraiya's sealing notes that we can destroy if anyone tries to threaten us. At the time we had enough gold to fund the search for Naruto. We absolutely dominated the chunnin exams. We have 3 unique bloodlines. Mari is the premier social manipulator in leaf. Shikamaru is literally desperate to marry Kei as soon as possible even though he claims it's something that's an inconvenience to him. On top of that we are the nephew of the Mizukage.
My entire point is that the balance of power is much more in our favor than you think. On top of that we are strongly allied with half the village. Nara saw our value and instantly tried to secure it. As long as we secure the hat we will be on the ascent. If we don't we should probably follow J's advice and go missing nin

It may be worth noting that we have an extraordinarily valuable seal to sell which could win a lot of goodwill, and certainly give pause to anyone thinking to offend us.

The firelog and especially charcoal misterator is essentially a massively souped-up explosive tag. They make a genin hit like a jounin and thus perform like a chuunin. The tower doesn't demand a tribute of them, so Gouketsu is the only source. Even if somebody wanted to retroengineer it Leaf law provides a two year patent period completely independently of any clan privilege.

Also we have like 7 wmds. Leaf continues to exist because we allow it to. If we are ever betrayed we will leave nothing but a crater

We haven't actually built one yet. Demonstrating one before the vote might be a good idea. Remind everybody that Hazou isn't a one-trick pony.

Just fill a bunch of purifiers or tunnelers. If push comes to shove it wouldn't even take modifying them to retain all gasses instead is just non-oxygen ones.
