Ren had plenty of opportunity to make nice with us. The longer she puts that off, the more complicated her life is going to get.

Damn, @Cariyaga got hardcore.

I approve.

I mean... Ren's welcome? If anyone believes us they now think that the Kurosawa are a lot tougher than they are, meaning that potential aggressors might hold off attacking in situations where they can't be sure of "getting through" a nonexistent layer of armor. Or they'll attempt over-complicated/risky plans to attack with overwhelming force and give some future-Kurosawa a chance to live that they otherwise wouldn't have had. Lives saved, tada.

They probably wanted to avoid getting send to the frontlines.

That was intense. Really freaking intense. I think Jiraiya's going to be happy to receive our report on what happened, given how forthright Ami was.

Anyways, it certainly sounds like we've got a second date lined up, once we get Jiraiya's go/no-go on the Mist Uplift Initiative. If he thinks it's too dangerous to meet in person again, we can always send a letter, but I think we should go with another in-person meeting if we can. Ami's interesting, proactive, and thinks like us.

She's even got the World Domination ambition down!

Heck, I could, and probably will, die within the month.
Sounds like Ami's expecting WW4 to spark pretty soon, and for it to be pretty brutal. Not that we didn't already kind of think that, but if Ami thinks so too then that's another nail in the coffin.

That is, for the record, an age gap I am *not okay with*.
Personally, I might start actually considering it after Hazou's an adult, since both people are then fully emotionally developed, but yeah for now we should stick to friends or partners in crime at most.

Hazou talked about this forever ago, he didn't say anything about super diplomacy clan stuff, it's probably more of an instance of "Characterization moves on", combined with Kurosawa lies about their abilities.

Isn't "No! I wanna be on the front lines!" the whole reason why they don't all become sealmasters? :p

They don't want to slave away as sealing machines for other people? Also we don't understand the internal workings of the Kurosawa, let's not make too many assumptions beyond the whole "Not super master sealmaster clan". (Yeah I just kind of did that, but they don't seem to be the super frontline people we thought they were)

Their clan motto is "By darkness unmoved." and they explicitly see themselves as the tough guys holding the line.

There are maybe three ninja who don't have an obvious unique advantage, and two of them are Sakura and Tenten.
Is that surprising, though? The tournament at the Chūnin Exams is for the best of the best in a relatively wide age bracket, in a society that can send 80,000 ninja into the field when necessary. I would expect that the people who get there will tend to have some comparative advantage.

[EDIT: To be clear, the above refers to canon Naruto, not MfD. There aren't 80,000 ninja in the world of MfD, much less just in the active-duty front-line military.]

There are a grand total of zero girls with a hard Taijutsu style. (The Gentle Fist is, uh, gentle.) They're up against Rock Lee, Kiba, Sasuke, Naruto and Chouji.
Yeah, that one is probably sexism. That said, if I wanted to justify it, I could. There's a reason that women and men have separate divisions in MMA; men are, on average, taller, stronger, and heavier, with longer reach as compared to women. Fighting hard style puts women at a disadvantage out the gate, so why would they choose to play that game?

Additionally, hard-style taijutsu fighting is a poor choice for ninja who are going to get into fights regularly and want to have a long career -- the damage accumulates. You're better off choosing a combat style that is going to require taking less physical punishment. That means Ranged Weapons, clones, sand armor, etc all make perfect sense for everyone, especially women.

[The Kurosawa] probably wanted to avoid getting send to the frontlines.
"By darkness unmoved."

Ami's 18. Note that is a fairly small gap by the standards of the approximate historical period.
In four years Hazou will be 18ish and she'll be 22! Perfect.

In all fairness: you have to be an absolute madman to pick CQC as your combat specialization.

But I want to see more Kurosawa corpses in the future. "Show, don't tell"
I volunteer Shin as tribute.

Is this something Hazou will have to be concerned about? Are you incrementing some hidden value every time he rolls Taijutsu, and when it gets high enough you start adding permanent penalties?

Man, I'm glad we're looking to Sealing then. Such a safe profession, that is.

Ok, so after putting Hazou through that, are we still afraid of talking to Hinata? That meeting is bound to be both less dangerous and more profitable.

Other things worth doing next update:

1. Report to Jiraiya. We should compile some proper conclusions in an effort to improve Hazou's analysis of adversarial social situations.
2. Commiserate with Noburi on being out of the tournament. Probe him about his family situation.
3. Lay out some preparations for how people are going to react to Hazou's speech. Knowing him, he's going to be surprised by the ridicule and hate. We should preempt that as best as we can.

Any other ideas?

+8 XP for honouring an ancient compact and making a QM's dream come true.

We are honored to have been of service. o7

So. Wow. Ami's fucked up. I feel really sorry for her now. On the plus side, we've got a lot of useful information about what sort of a person she is to give Jiraiya. I'm thinking she's got all the risk factors for turning into one of those ninja who occasionally try to take over the Elemental Nations from time to time if she doesn't get a vacation from being a ninja and unlearn some of the stuff she's done to her own mind to survive. Yes, it's made her capable of amazing things, but probably not in the service of desirable ends. Somewhere along the way she got lost and stepped away from being completely human.

It's a shame we didn't get to talk to her about Keiko. Perhaps next time. If Ami's ever going to find her way back from what she's become, I think Keiko is the only thing strong enough to serve as an anchor.

If you really want Hazou to develop resistance to Mori-augmented seduction attempts, clearly Hazou needs to explain his need for exposure resistance training to Keiko and ask her to attempt to seduce him a few dozen times.

(...that was a joke. But Keiko's reaction would be pretty epic. I can't decide if it would involve attempted murder or complete rational understanding and agreement that it was a good plan.)

We can see if Kiba is still feeling like dog shit.

Also: We should tell Jiraiya to, the next chance he gets to talk to Ren in private (relative), mention something to the effect of " Hazou is willing to start considering how complicated he makes her life in his plans in exchange for personal considerations." (cf @Cariyaga)

We've also got Ikeda to follow up on. We didn't make too good a showing in our match, but it's courteous to at least meet with her again.

Also, what matches are going on today? I think we missed Choji's after our match.

Why? Just pretend to be embarrassed and ignore her. We've done all we needed to with Ikeda, and anything more would just give her the chance to interrogate us.
