You guys are so paranoid! Honestly, here I go and carefully write an update to get all of the issues out of the way so that you can focus on planning punching, and what happens? You immediately go off on...pfui...social worries. Ugh.

Would it reassure you if I said that I pinky-promise with double secret sauce that I did not put any traps in the chapter? That everyone and everything is just as presented and that no one is specifically planning to screw you?

NOW can we get back to the punching-planning?

That might be reassuring if you said that. However, you're not actually saying that, just asking if saying that would reassure us.

He also said "specifically planning to screw you".
Plan A is already, "Violate the spirit of the rules and punch everything with extradimensional armored murderballs."
Thats in the spirit of the rules! They just neglected to recall that we are exceptionally good at that one.

So, is Hazou going to spar with our teammates to figure out if they're any decent at fighting, or are we just gonna hope they're strong, or are we gonna drain them dry and tell 'em to go to a medic or something, or are we gonna split from them?

-and yet, they did remember to specifically mention that moving the documents to the seventh path was off limits. We are therefore entitled to assume that anything not specifically mentioned is entirely fair game.

We can assume whatever we want. But the proctors don't necessarily have to agree with our assumptions, and they are motivated to fuck us over.

IIRC you guys also forgot Zabuza on this list before and then proceeded to correct it. Velorien expressed surprise that he was indeed s-class, previously thinking the "irrational" fear of him that the thread expressed was just a silly meme.

@faflec can you corroborate?
Zabuza was S-rank? News to me. Regardless, it was clearly stated back in "A Family Dies" that he is doornailsville as of the Showdown.

I'm a little confused. My understanding was that in Chapter 116, Hazou and Kagome built a ton of Fire-log macerators, as described here:

And the specifics regarding testing/building them was covered in the plan here:

which had specifics on construction here:

Which clearly indicates we're using basically max-capacity fuel Fire-log macerators. To my knowledge, these fire-log macerators have not been used since we were on the remote island, and I assumed it was these that we were taking with us?
Bah. Stop stealing @faflec's schtick -- he's the one who's supposed to remember tiny and inconvenient details from a thousand pages ago.

At the time no one had explained just how insane the diameter on those things was. I am retroactively ruling that the team downsized them (cf character agency based on in-universe knowledge), since I doubt they would have said "Hey, let's make a whole ton of these things that are too big to use in any combat we've ever been in and cannot be thrown to minimum safe distance without an artificial assist."

Like I said, if you want to make ginormous ones you can. It'll only take a few minutes and a dozen or so explosives. The ones you have, however, are of a size that is reasonable to use in normal ninja fights.

That might be reassuring if you said that. However, you're not actually saying that, just asking if saying that would reassure us.
*sigh*

My god, you people are so paranoid. smh

I pinky-swear that when I sat down to write the chapter I had no intention of putting booby traps in it.

There, is that better?

We've already had this conversation :p
PSA: I updated the chapter to include the murder-child's message so it's available for easy reference.

Interesting factoid -- I had thought that Zabuza was an A-rank ninja, not S-rank. I went and checked it on the wiki and I was wrong; here's his mission-completed list:

  • [According to the databooks] Zabuza had completed 191 official missions in total: 4 D-rank, 67 C-rank, 79 B-rank, 29 A-rank, 12 S-rank.

The heck? How did he only do 4 D-ranks??

When you sat down to write the chapter. That doesn't say anything about booby traps you decided to add after that point, while writing it, in a sudden bout of inspiration. I'm on to you, wordsmith! You think you can trick us with your wordplay, don't you?

No.

Protoplan:

- Attack our blue first, retrieve documents as expediently as possible (see tactics section). Turn in documents within first 2 hours (180 pts)
— if team has Leaf (any Leaf) knock them unconscious, and moderate consequence everyone else. Prior to end, waken restrained (-225 pts) - 400 pt adv. (can't be sure of no back stab, no matter what)
— otherwise, unconscious+MC (-300) - -475 pt adv.

- Wait no more than 1-hour in ambush for other high performing red teams coming to turn their documents in before their own rampage. Send Panashe out to see what is the best target (has the highest performing red-team) tell her to return if she identifies a returning team, reporting team size and descriptive qualities.

- Attack best target red teams in order. If Leaf, entice them into cooperation (relative score math should be enough) - unconscious/cells everyone else. Turn in all blue documents.
— Leaf teams 75+80-150-180 = -175 (350 pt adv)
— Leaf paired -150-180=-330 (500pt adv)
— others -225-270=-495 (670 pt adv)

- Attack remaining blue teams in order of softness. Entice Leaf with relative scores, otherwise knock unconscious. Unconscious +MC everyone else.
— if has Leaf -75-150+60/90 = -165/-135 (depending on red)
-- others -75-225+60/90 = -240/-210

This ensures that we have a large enough advantage, doing into round two, regardless of scores.

If we have both Leaf and other Wolf on same team, only help so much as it does not reduce the relative advantage below 300 pts (inflict at least -120 pts, all told. Unconscious, restrain, then waken as needed.

——
Tactics section?
Need to go do other things.

——
There are at least 2 other teams capable of full rampage (Downfall and one of the dossier teams) I imagine one is blue, one is red, and both have two or more of the relative top teams.

I'll at least consider the possibility that our deceit ninja aren't an amorphous collection of knives sticking out of assorted backs.

I thought Mist has more S-rankers than 2.
If they do, I don't know about them -- which isn't saying much, given how poor my canon knowledge has been shown to be.

Also, incidentally, Leaf killed off a group of jonin.

Good point. Over the last two years, Mist has lost:
  • 3 jōnin and 25-ish (?) chūnin + genin (I forget the mix) back in chapter 0, when they went to the Swamp
  • An unknown but not at all insignificant number of jōnin and chūnin when the strike force attacked and got mauled in the process of killing all of Hidden Swamp
  • A dozen jōnin, plus Mei, plus Yagura, plus Zabuza[1] in "A Family Dies"
They are seriously hurting for firepower these days.

[1] Okay, yes, Zabuza was S-rank. Ugh. It was a passing discussion a year ago! How do you do that @faflec?

Oh, I missed one. Separate post for the ping.

I'd like to say something like "Well, it's worked before....", but that would be massively trollish and I'm trying to be sincere in this post.

I am not trying to trick you right now.

I'm pretty sure he's the local shard's manifestation of Kagome. It's the only reasonable answer.
I made a forum that breaks the space-time continuum. Basically whenever I see one of you guys have a question I post it onto the forum and all my past selves, who can easily recall everything that happened over the past day or so, can fact-check it for me.

Also, REALLY!? REALLY!? WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU HAVE AKANE DO THAT!?

In this post. Right now. But this says nothing about whether or not you were trying to trick us in those other posts, prior to right now!

Food for thought:
Unfortunately, your disguise kits seem to have gone missing -- maybe that invisible girl got them? Weird that she didn't take any of your other gear though.

Presumably every ninja basically everywhere is going through this sort of situation. How do you think Kagome is going to handle his disguise kit, which he's relied on for decades and presumably was locked behind extremely heavy defenses, up and vanishing?

What conclusions do you think he'll draw when he sees nothing else out of place?

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure they aren't insanely large. I would be surprised if a fully loaded fire-log macerator caused more than a ~20-50 meter radius of injury. Mostly, they look terrifying. The mechanics of them are more along the lines of a saw dust cannon and less along the lines of an exploding grain silo. Read: because they won't all ignite at once, they won't cause a shockwave, meaning their damage will pretty much only extend as far as the fire.
