The main question would be if blacksmith make the locks or get the designs from other people (like the proctors) in the first place. It's possible that most blacksmith's look into 'How to make Ninja safe lockbox's Edition 1' before making them. But we want to keep it understandable for the GM's and low on word count.

Also what's the point of a Pangolin with engineering knowledge then?

They have locksmiths for that.

The Pangolin would suffice I suppose. Engineers are not necessarily blacksmiths but in a medieval age tech setting they are close enough I guess.

Truly we would probably need to case the place out and seriously examine the blacksmiths shop to ascertain whether they were provided a design or not, and other minutia.

The Pangolins are probably more like siege or civil engineers than an engineer useful for figuring out locks.

So, why would Keiko NOT kill Hazō for marrying Ami?
Keiko does generally like both Hazō and Ami. If they were happy together it might feel a little awkward but that's not apocalyptic. And it'd have the huge bonus from Keiko's perspective of meaning she'd get to see Ami all the time.

Right but we don't need an expert, we just need someone with experience in a related enough discipline to be able to suggest something plausible that could be going wrong for this benign object. Someone that has done repairs tanks on the battlefield for a decade or two should be able to give you a rough guesstimate of a plausible car issue if we had a similar scenario involving some grand theft auto nonsense on a custom vehicle in real life.

Chapter 192.1: Fourth Event Wrap-Up / Information
Chapter 192.2: Fourth Event Wrap-Up / Information

The naming and shaming had come to an end... almost. The results so far had been brutal. Several of the minor nations had either been gutted or no longer had any ninja in the running, and teams were being split between winners and losers left and right.

The members of Team Uplift had not yet been dismissed, but Hazou had been counting very carefully, and there were exactly three more seats that needed to be emptied. Shiomi-sensei raised a single finger to calm the whispering and chattering that had sprouted in every corner of the crowd of remaining nin, many visibly anxious without their team surrounding them.

"We of course want to recognize those who actually pulled out performances that were something other than utterly contemptible and deserving of nothing so honorable as being turned into worm shit. For example," he began, grinning maniacally, "Aburame Shino and Hyuuga Hinata of Leaf, and Sakamoto Shiina of Waterfall, for garnering over two hundred points. And of course the equally impressive feat of the Gouketsu siblings, the final group of ninja to avoid being kicked out at this stage, and furthermore, the only ninja to move to the next round of the exams having scored less than negative two hundred this event. Congratulations. Your father must be so proud. Oh, and one final note. Yamamoto Haru, Haruno Sakura, and Ishihara Akane. Dismissed."

Hazou's gut twisted in uncomfortably novel ways as the waves of frustration, embarrassment, and relief hit him, joined very shortly by sympathetic horror as he turned to look at Akane's grief-stricken face.

AN:
  • Each Team Uplift member ended up with a nice round -223 points on net.
  • Team Clanless got utter garbage rolls in the final points determination. In-universe, this probably means they hit an opsec snag they weren't aware of. Yamamoto was fuming as he walked out that it was probably 'some clan shit' trying to 'put them in their place'.
NUMBER OF NINJA REMAINING PER COUNTRY
  • Wolf, 2
  • Sky, 1
  • Mist, 12, including Team Downfall
  • Hot Spring, 3
  • Cloud, 10
  • Frost, 4
  • Leaf, 10, consisting of Gouketsu, Kurenai, Asuma, and one older Leaf contestant
  • River, 1
  • Sand, 8
  • Rock, 9
  • Grass, 2
  • Waterfall, 4
  • Rice, 1
  • Fang, 2
  • Claw, 3
Team Kurenai, since they contain the highest scoring individual, has been led away, and the rest of the passing genin have been given information indicating that the next event starts in at least 36 hours. What do you do?

NB: The current plan is for me to write Thursday's update. Voting will end WEDNESDAY, JULY 4, AT 10 AM NEW YORK TIME, since I anticipate being able to actually write during the day.

The action plan is eligible for bonus XP equal to [5 - 1 per 200 words]. (1-200 words gets you 5, 201-400 gets you 4, etc.). This number can go negative.

Could you help me parse the last sentence? Yamamoto's pissed off at a clan kid, but I'm not sure if he's focused on Hazou or some other clan kid who went up to him as he was walking out?

So, definitely think we should suggest to the team to see about having Jiraiya use the obvious bias in calling us out at the end of the event prior to last to get political concessions.

Also pinging @eaglejarl @Velorien Of the remaining teams, how many of them were also in the list of top teams from the Yakuza dossier? For reference:
Team Kongō (Cloud)
Hazama Kyū: Member of the Hazama Clan, which has a Bloodline Limit involving pillars of lightning(?).
Ryūgamine Eichi: Member of the Ryūgamine Clan, creators of the famous Ryūgamine-style taijutsu.
Hotoke Eru: Clanless ninja.

Team Chinin (Rock)
Namazu Jishin: Heir of the Namazu Clan, Earth Element users with many unique techniques.
Tama Ruri: Member of the Tama Clan, entrusted with top-level management of Rock mining operations due to their extreme intelligence and unspecified Bloodline Limit. (Keiko addendum: The Tama are known to suffer from a condition which can best be summarised as "tunnel vision proportional to the degree of concentration"; they do not appreciate puns being made on the subject.)
Yakeyama Ganshō: Member of the Yakeyama Clan, secretive technique hackers who specialize in combining the Fire and Water Elements in some unknown fashion.

Team Mugiwara (Hot Springs)
Kotsuzui Kenji: Member of the Kotsuzui Clan, wielders of the Blood Element Bloodline Limit and legendary hunter-nin.
Kashiwagi Noriko: Member of the Kashiwagi minor clan.
Minawa Ichirō: Member of the Minawa Clan, support specialists who wield the Inner Fire Bloodline Limit. (Noburi addendum: These guys are said to be Hot Springs's answer to the Wakahisa, but they don't wear barrels.)

Team Gensō (Waterfall)
Sakamoto Shiina: Member of the Sakamoto Clan, wielders of the Phantom Element Bloodline Limit, which gives them the power of invisibility.
Mitsurugi Ryūichi: Member of the Mitsurugi Clan, creators of the Mitsurugi Sword Style.
Oroka Hina: Clanless ninja.

Praise the sun and all it's wonderful glory.

Time for curbstompy strats for the next event.

I suppose that with the next event confirmed to be about punching, we just pull out some major cards and crush everyone? Would've been nice to save some things for the tournament, but we're not in a position to hold back, I think.

Do you think we can contact the Waterfall Invisibloodline chick for assistance in espionage wrt the next event or would that be too much of a setup for horrible consequences?

Why did the proctor call out Shino/Hinata as being top scorers, when Team Asuma (which is Shikamaru/Ino/Chouji) had the highest-scoring individual?
