We should try to counter-fuck Shiori by claiming that our method for getting the merchant to give us all his money was by being nice.

Ok, so this event will probably reinforce theories about Mist-Leaf alliances. Effectively, what Mist said was "Leaf is more powerful than everyone else here and we're looking at adopting their ninja practices. Look at what shining exemplars pf ninja they are." This, combined with the number of Leaf teams which made the cutoff and explicit examples of Leaf teams doing well, should dispell doubts about Leaf strength and also make a Mist-Leaf alliance sound plausible. Likely, this will make more people actively target Leaf teams (especially us) for prestige and to determine if Leaf actually is as powerful as Mist is implying. Meanwhile, I imagine that Mist has not made any formal agreement with Leaf, and is waiting to see if they will be able to handle the pressure. I think it's fair to say this is a bit of a mini-tryout of a Mist-Leaf alliance, to see if Leaf can cash their checks so to speak. Also, by singling out us, Mist gives additional legitimacy to Jiraiya. I think it's safe to say our actions have had a positive impact on the Mist-Leaf negotiations, and we've given Jiraiya a leg up. That said, we now will need to defend ourselves. We may want to revisit our seal half defenses (are we keeping them in the summon realm? If so, we're absolutely fine. Storage seals? Probably ok, but definitely don't leave our equipment unguarded while, say, taking a bath or something), and prepare for the next event.

Idk if team hunting is a great idea now. It may be best to just try to eliminate teams which try to eliminate us.

We have zero knowledge of teams that have a plausible chance of eliminating us.

I don't think we should look for a fight either, because we are unlikely to win all our battles.

IIRC some of the Leaf teams recognized an Earth team and a Lightning team as among the "teams to watch out for". We should try to link up with them and check to see if they made the cut (they probably did, but hey).

Stunt: Forged in Fire
Cost: 20XP
Prerequisites:
  • Aspect with the word "Idealist", "Idealistic", et. al in it
  • At least 3 Thousand Yard Stare points
The user has seen some of the worst humanity has to offer and come out with a drive to make things better.

Instead of applying to Intimidation, Thousand Yard Stare applies to Rapport and Empathy.

If the user loses the aspect with "Idealistic" in it, it is QM fiat as to whether they keep this stunt or not.

Note: TYS does not apply to Intimidation any longer, and applies to one additional skill, for a net gain of +1 skills
It's been added to the rules doc. Thanks, @Cariyaga.

EDIT: Hazō doesn't have the stunt, it's just available for purchase.

Ok, but who is number 2?

Clearly, with this big of a target painted on our backs, we need to be really careful about how we move outside of the Leaf section of the barracks. Henge, concealing clothing, leaving and entering via unusual routes, moving in a larger group, are what immediately comes to mind.

Also, the fact that it can be known that some teams mathematically cannot make the tournament, should imply some bounds on the maximum score achievable in the next event. Given that half the participants were eliminated, it should be less than the difference between first place and the median.

Twin pulses of chakra opened the scrolls, dispensing a pair of genin-sized logs from their extradimensional storage space. An instant later, the logs were gone, Substituted back to the bleachers, and all three Gōketsu genin landed in side-by-side three-point stances in front of the stage.

For a second there, I thought our team broke opsec on PMYF, and was ready to scream.

We are still investigating how you convinced that merchant to give your client literally every ryō he possessed so that you could cash out on the second day of the event; once we finish the investigation I intend to see your actions incorporated into the Academy curriculum.

I have this hilarious image of a group of small children streaming into Saito's office, as he silently ponders where he went wrong with his life.

1. All of those eliminated teams still have their word halves, which are still presumably worth admittance to the next event. We ought to request that all eliminated Leaf teams hand theirs over and consider measures to get our hands on those of other eliminated contestants

Sadly eliminated teams are prohibited from taking actions that affect the scores of teams still in.

Probably means that's against the letter and the spirit of the rules.

I will note that Hazou uses neither Rapport nor Empathy. He doesn't really use Intimidation either, to my knowledge, though.

E: Hazou's socials:

Deceit 24 (inflict "misinformation" consequences vs Deceit or Empathy)
Resolve 20 (defence only)
Presence 15 (be convincing vs Presence or Resolve)
Empathy 10 (discover aspects vs Deceit or Rapport)
Rapport 10 (be liked vs Empathy)
Intimidation 9 (inflict "fear" consequences vs Resolve)
TYS 4

E2: Hazou's social defences:

Against Deceit, Hazou rolls Deceit 24.
Against Presence, Hazou rolls Resolve 20.
Against Empathy, Hazou rolls Deceit 24.
Against Rapport, Hazou rolls Empathy 10.
Against Intimidation, Hazou rolls Resolve 20.

Given this, getting Forged in Fire would probably be beneficial. Intimidation cannot be used for defence, and Empathy is the only real chink in our social armour. All our other defences are 20 or 24. Getting Empathy to 14 makes us less vulnerable to Rapport attacks.

(innocent look) But at no point have we been told that word halves can be exchanged for points. Their only function is that you can turn them in to be taken to the next Exam. How does that "affect the score or readiness of any Team still in the Exams"?

And if we haven't, maybe we should put those points into a socials boost instead. Do we really need more combat ability right now instead of, say, raising Presence for the upcoming social challenge?
Query: How sure are we that the next Event so social-based again, instead of being a mission that merely involves the proctors heavily (e.g., a leadership Event with proctors posing as Genin)?

Not 100% certain. On the other hand, virtually every single plan we make involves doing social stuff, you notice that? It's true that combat power is one of those things that when you need it, you really need it, but if Hazou is supposed to be doing all this complicated social maneuvering maybe we ought to suck it up and increase his main non-Deception social skill.

Hm, a point.

Also side note: Does anyone else think Mist's doing us a favor here? I mean, we spent this entire Chunin Exams doing practically zero combat. The Second Event we spent our time in a fortress, and only went into combat odds stacked heavily in our favor. The Third Event we attacked nobody and cashed out within the second day or something. We did fight one team, but we were stealthed and I don't think they knew it was us. Mist's put up this narrative of us now, and that's of us as a skilled Social-based team. Yes, there are gonna be teams looking to us as easy prey, but if I were a guy wanting to win the entire thing, I'd want to keep us and bring us into the tournament for easy wins.

Who knows? We're talking about a Nara. His guess is the most likely one.

Mist held everyone's half and can track who it belongs to. Collusion is easily detected.
