The Iron Nerve isn't magic. It helps, yes, but it's not as simple as "be shown once, become perfect master".
Aside from the fact that yes, chakra magic and especially bloodline magic is in fact magic, I get the point. I'd like to ask though; what would Dancing be, as a skill? Would it be a stunt that Iron Nerve can cheapen?

I don't think Iron Nerve would help that much because a lot of the time you need to adjust your movements according to the height and movement of your partner.

The same could be argued for all of Hazou's other IN-boosted skills, like Taijutsu, or Athletics. It probably helps mechanically.

If I was to make a ruling on it dancing would be a skill that Iron nerve grants a +3 bonus to. Then I would treat it like calligraphy. If Hazō took the time and practiced dancing he could save that roll to apply anytime he did that specific dance. Right now he could only get a 15 on his roll without spending fate points. He'd be very good for a beginner but anyone who actually trained in dancing would salsa rings around him

I'm not sure whether I should be happy or worried that we got to discussing the mechanical effects of Iron Nerve on the Dance skill without anyone stopping to ask why Hazou needed to dance...

Greetings, loyal uplifters. Apologies for the delay. Due to emptiness of spoon drawer, @eaglejarl has kindly agreed to whip up a CfG chapter to stand in for this, ahem, Thursday update.

Y'know, there is a Performance skill. What else would dancing be?

Agreed that Iron Nerve should apply to it - heck, we've already had on-camera musical performances using the IN, why not dance too?

Since we will probably have a month to prepare before the tournament starts I was wondering what everyone thinks we should spend our time preparing? New Jutsu? Kurosawa secret punching technique? Kurosawa social techniques? Original seal research? Scribe a ton of Jiraiya's seals? Go on a quest to find the condor summoner and take there scroll?

*snrk*

If we get to return to Leaf to prep, then reinventing seals J gives us notes on. If we have to stay in Mist then just stuff to get us more XP or knock enemy contestants out of the game.

Honestly it depends on who the other tournament fighters are and how we could exploit any of their possible weaknesses. Seal research IMO might take a bit longer and we can always scribe seals for Jiraiya to infuse for us, so it's probably better to get new jutsu/punching powers.

On the other hand, jutsu will need to be levelled, whereas we don't need to spend large amounts of XP to use new seals.

I'm pretty sure Jiraiya could get us somewhere private enough for sealing research if we asked him to, which would let us improve on macerators.

e: Oh, right, as was mentioned in discord, learning to use macerators with whips would be good.

How would we improve macerators, though; and would it be an effective use of our time? I'm worried because mechanically I feel improving macerators wouldn't give us that much of a skill boost, whereas improving combat skills through leveling taijutsu, ninjutsu, or related skills could.

Improving macerators takes time, not XP. Improving skills takes XP and time.

That said, very easily: Just make them shoot faster. Combine that with figuring out different payloads (ceramics filled with poison, etc), and we'd do well.

Except we can't train and research at the same time, and unless we have enough time to research and train (separately) we'd end up sitting on our XP pool.

Any seals or types of Jutsu that anyone would like to attempt to discover? One thing we definitely should do is finally make flashbangs seals and defenses against them

True. So include in the training plan that training comes 'first', so to speak -- they happen simultaneously, but run the XP dry by the end.

Flashbangs are a very strong option. We might be able to get some help with that from Jiraiya.

Nec--

Err. Sorry, force of habit. I mean, something that will let Hazou deal with high-speed enemies. People with high Athletics can just stay at long range and pelt him with attacks while denying him the ability to retaliate. A long range attack of his own would be good... if it keys off Taijutsu. Any new skill, or a seal that uses Ranged Weapons would mean he can't get to 40-ish in time. I think a better bet is something that boosts his Athletics to even things up so he doesn't autolose that kind of matchup.
