Hi folks,

If I may go offtopic for just a moment, I thought I'd offer everyone the chance to participate in the flow of democracy. Donald Trump is soliciting feedback on what people believe about the accuracy of news reporting. I verified that this actually is a real thing and not malware so, if you have a couple of minutes, please go take the survey: Mainstream Media Accountability Survey

Note that it's not restricted just to Americans -- the survey refers to "the mainstream media", which would include outlets such as BBC et al.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled screaming in Kagome.

Give Trump the names and addresses of his political enemies? What could go wrong?

Ugh. This survey is what i would call badly designed if it werent obviously intentional, and has

right after. Just in case this werent obvious.

What an... interesting survey.

I feel that a team of experienced political staff should be able to create a survey with more insidious bias than this. It feels more similar to "like my post if you agree" than a serious attempt at lying with statistics.

This is literally what the "survey" is supposed to be.

A Facebook like.

Alright, we should review our current schemes to make sure we're ready when the plot restarts. Just to be clear, I think these are our goals (in rough order of priority):

1. Everybody we care about (Leaf people) survive for future strength
2. Establish ourselves (and by extension, Jiraiya and Leaf) as powerful by placing well in events in the exam (also not getting caught killing anyone)
3. Establish ourselves as an accepted and useful leader among current Leaf genin
4. Plant seeds of cooperation/connection/reputation with foreign ninja for future use
5. Assist in the formation of a Leaf-Mist alliance (if possible)

Are there other high level goals we're aiming for in the exams?

I feel that an alliance with nations other than Mist are more relevant. Jiraiya can use the night light seals to politically pressure Mist into an alliance, so other alliances are more relevant.

I would be on board with this if I thought we had any leads into finding/making alliances with other nations. As it stands, our team has pretty strong/useful connections in Leaf as three bloodline holders, so that seems like a more fruitful field to attempt to do something. I'm all for alliances with other nations, but don't really think there's too much we can do about that (at least, not without some more data). We *could* just pick a smaller nation and attempt to get to know them and upset a whole basket of politics in doing so, hoping that Leaf is better able to handle the chaos. E.g. just have Hazou and friends publicly start a friendly competition with Lightning genin or something, and do silly salkerish things wi--- er--- invite them to gamenight.

I disagree - while the nightlight seals are a potential diplomatic advantage, I'm pretty sure they aren't enough to count it as done (in particular since they're likely to be strongest as leverage by making everyone else mad at Mist, which I doubt will make it easier for us to befriend them). On top of that, the situation with our former clans is pretty much guaranteed to need us to intervene in order to make things run reasonably (let alone smoothly), especially given the new Mizukage.

I do like the idea of meeting and laying foundations with the other Villages - worst case scenario, we'll know our enemies better, and have a better chance of pulling off shenanigans involving people who also don't want everyone to die killing eachother. But, barring big changes or new intel, Mist should be our priority.

This was one of the reasons behind offering trades - it lets us identify other ninja who are willing to cooperate. These are ninja who are more likely to be amenable to our overall plans, and identifying them may be helpful. I'm all for identifying future assets and info sour--- er--- making friends in nations across the globe. Hopefully we are able to follow up with at least one of the ninja we make trades with.

Re: nightlight seals, I'm actually unsure how big or small of a diplomatic incident that will cause. I'm pretty sure Hazou is overestimating how bad it will go, but I don't know by how much. Ultimately, it'll be how badly it winds up that matters, far more than any words and arguments from Hazou and Jiraiya. If we get an all-hands-on-deck fight off the Abysmal Horrors Summoned By The Seals incident, then Mist'll be in huge political trouble. If we just get, like, 10 unaccounted genin who just disappeared, it probably won't matter too much to Mist.

Ah, but in the latter case, Jiraiya will know about it and be able to put political pressure on Mist by threatening its reveal.

That requires I give them my name and info. Not sure I'm comfortable giving these... people those details.

Lie. They do.

No worries, though. I only pointed it out because I thought it might be both amusing to this crowd at just how...interestingly the questions were worded, and might help Our Glorious Leader in his tireless and never-ending battle to, in the words of a Trump supporter I saw on FB, "make life better for everyone except the haters."

Yeah, after I posted that I actually hit submit with some less that 100% honest details (my email is this-is-fake@gmail.com).
Then my scriptblocker prevented the form from being submitted. I think it was trying to tell me something.

If cascading sealing failures aren't a ton of political pressure I don't know what is.

And if cascading sealing failure are as terrible as you suspect we won't have mist as an ally because they will be even less of a military power. I guess we could ally with rock or cloud to wipe them of the map but it's probably easier to build a strong mist as an ally than a tenuous alliance with some one else.

Though we should see if there is anyone Noburi could marry in mist to help obtain the alliance.

1. Marry Kagome to Ren
2. Gain alliance
3. Explosions and screaming
4. ???
5. Profit.

Jokes aside, a Leaf/Mist alliance would be the most logical and powerful solution. Looking at the map :

With Leaf and Hotsping in the west, Mist can concentrate their influence on the eastern continent or the rest of the southern islands. Mist right now should really want this alliance because they can't really compete against the other 4 major villages, but everything else is probably still in reach. Jiraiya is also more interested in keeping Leaf save rather than saving THE WORLD, so maintaining the new status quo via a Sand/River/Leaf/Mist/(Noodle)/(Tea) alliance should be his main priority.

The bloodline connections via Kurosawa/Wakahisa/Mori are also really great in a unifying way, Mori&Nara are naturally good at understanding each other, Hazou is a magic ticket in connecting the Mizukage/Hokage clans and Noburi could make an awesome alliance with anyone at the moment.

If Mist isn't dumb they will gain from this alliance enormously while shouldering responsibillity to Leaf for the larger alliance.
