[X] Action Plan: Ninja stuff

  • Report to Minami.
    • Describe the potential mission to her.
    • Tell Noburi about the chakra poison and see if he thinks it's a thing that he would be interested in acquiring.
    • Brainstorm with whole team on plan. Accept critiques and suggestions, especially from Keiko and Minari.
      • Ask Minari if she is ok with us looting the warehouse to make it look like it was a rival gang that hit them
  • If we get approval to take the mission:
    • Find where Shirakawa and his gang is located.
      • Make sure to wear facemasks to protect identities at all times. Use Henge to alter superficial features only (faces, scars, skin color?).
      • Use Minami's bloodline prism to scout from a distance. Let team see the intel.
      • Have Hazō use Earth Release: Living Roots to track people.
        • Work with Minami's bloodline to make Awareness checks pass easily.
      • Get a solid count of the number of people in his warehouse, as well as any traps, escape paths, valuables...
      • Locate any open windows/holes/etc..
    • Have Noburi make sure Akane and, Hazou have full chakra reserves
    • Get a solid count of the number of people in his warehouse, as well as any traps, escape paths, valuables...
    • Locate any open windows/holes/etc..
    • Have Noburi make sure Akane and, Hazou is full on chakra
    • Wait till we have successfully scouted the area to make our move.
      • Drop Misterators through an open window/hole.
        • If no hole is readily available have Akane pick the lock to a window.
        • If no windows exist cut a hole with the forcce axe. If that doesn't work blow a hole in the roof, use explosive tags to make the entry point. Make sure to plant silence mines first. Regardless of which method of entry is used
        • Drop in enough mistarators to cover the warehouse
      • Have the team drop in after the mistarators are activated and
      • Have Noburi drain everyone in the building to unconscious.
        • If anyone has more chakra than a chunnin drop enough explosives to level the building and and GTFO
      • Quickly knock out everyone ASAP.
        • Hazou + Akane use nonlethal Taijutsu to KO enemies.
          • Noburi uses Water Whip + Vampiric Dew to drain enemies to unconsciousness.
          • As possible Noburi can also use elemental clones to assist others.
      • Chakra boost if anyone does not go immediately down
      • If the situation escalates use explosives as appropriate
      • Keiko, Minami, and Kagome stay outside to:
        • Prevent anyone from leaving without being taken care of.
        • Prevent anyone from entering the area and noticing what's going on
    • Loot the warehouse of all of its valuables. Only do this with Minami's approval
      • Don't spend too much time on this.
      • Remove Misterator seals from the place.
    • Kidnap Shirakawa
      • Transport him to the jeweler
      • Kidnap Shirakawa
        • Transport him to the jeweler
          • Take Shirakawa in a crate through a predetermined back alley route -- Noburi and Akane carry the crate, barrel on top (Noburi to keep him unconscious, Akane for strength) -- away from the warehouse
            • When they need to cross the street, Minami sweeps for them with her prism, with Hazou, Keiko, and her making distractions
            • Once they're far enough away that it wouldn't be obvious where they came from, act as if they are couriers with a delivery for the contact

      • Get the Snake Poison.
      • Buy Akane a piece of jewelry.
      • Only do this if mission is successful
      • Use Hazō personal funds
  • Move to the next contact.
    • Use Skywalkers, sleep in Skytowers, Hazou/Keiko meet contact. Same plan as what we did before.

Using force ax instead of explosive seals. Though if that doesn't work will escalate to explosive seals

*wants to vote for plans*

*realizes he doesn't feel like spending the effort to read them all*

Ask the contact if, should we capture Shirakawa, he would be willing to intimidate rather than dispose of him.
  • In spite of our profession, death-dealing is not our preference.
  • Further, a contact in that gang for him would undoubtedly improve his position. Why not make for a mutually beneficial arrangement?
I don't like this section, and so shall support the second placed plan.

[X] Action Plan: Ninja stuff

Plan updated. Look it over and make sure I didn't accidentally anyone's face, please.

e: On which note, faflec, you are voting for the plan that uses explosive seals to blow a hole in the roof :p

I don't think earth sensing works on the roof.

Also, I would prefer that the team do not all enter the same hole/window/door. Multiple direction is better, or failing that, multiple holes.

Kidnap section has some duplicate bullet points.

What countries are we doing deliveries to?
Unless mentioned otherwise, each of the following deliveries is to a resident of a small-to-mid-sized civilian town in the named country. Also, slight retcon: you're supposed to go counter-clockwise around the EN because you can travel faster over water than almost any other ninja team without needing to burn hard-to-come-by skywalkers.

  • River - Shimoura (obsolete trade centre town) - jeweller (complete)
  • River
  • River - Tani (city halfway down) - Cartwright
  • Wind - Hidden Sand Village - Intelligence service (official visit)
  • Tea - Degarashi Port - Waiter
  • Tea - Degarashi Port - Waiter (different restaurant)
  • Tea - Degarashi Port - Tea merchant
  • Tea - civilian village about halfway up on the north side - a farmer
  • Noodles - Ise (big city in northeast corner) - Innkeeper
  • Noodles - Ise - Garbage man
  • Noodles - Ise - Brothel worker
  • Noodles
  • Noodles
  • Nagi Island - minor civilian village on the east side - a farmer
  • Honey
  • Wolf
  • Marsh
  • Bird
  • Sky

What seals did we get from the Nara library?
Eight of them, from a beginner book. You have no idea what they do based on the seal blank, but the names are pretty good hints:

  • Chime
  • Long Chime
  • Two Choice Chime
  • Long Two Choice Chime
  • Double Chime
  • Extended Double Chime
  • Octave
  • Long Octave

Questions Concerning Tactical Movement
1. 20kg imposes -3 dice and 40kg imposes -6 dice; can we generalize to -1 die per 20/3≈7kg?
We aren't going to track it that closely.

2. 8–10 days of travel, but not 5-6, was enough to train 8-12 levels in TacMov. Can we get an explicit relation between time travelled and levels gained?
Probably not. (A) It requires a lot of spoons, (B) it depends on how you're traveling and the terrain, and (C) it gets harder to improve as you go up in level. Too many variables for an easy formula.

3. In a private communication, Velorien stated he had "no idea" how the "against enemy combat roll if fleeing" ruling came about. (I assume that rolling against enemy TacMov would be the sensible alternative, unless it's an attack of opportunity?) Can an idea be produced or, failing that, have it removed from the character sheets? (Is currently a note under the Tactical Movement skill.)
First off, don't disclose private conversations unless the other person said you could, and then you should include the fact that he did. This is literally one of the rules of SV.

Second, yes. Roll to escape will be TacMov vs TacMov.

We have tentatively put together the following changes to the combat system; we are soliciting player feedback before making them canon. If you can find a problem or a way to break the system, please speak up.

Ranges are:
  1. Melee (taijutsu, swords and daggers, etc)
  2. Medium (chain weapons, Water Whip)
  3. Long (thrown weapons, bows, etc)
  4. Escaped (combat and/or pursuit is over, one party has escaped)
Weapons can usually be used at their own range or the one below them, but not two below. (i.e. Medium-ranged weapons can usually be used in Melee; Long-ranged ones can usually be used at Medium range but not Melee range.) Which weapons fall under or not under 'usually' is currently undefined and may end up being situational based on GM decision. (e.g. In some combats we might let someone throw kunai at Melee range if we feel circumstances warrant it, or rule that a meteor hammer cannot be used in Melee range because it's too clumsy.)

Opposed TacMov rolls of various levels of success give different results:

Class A: Range remains unchanged but that person cannot attack you with a targeted attack this round. (i.e. You dodge.)
Class B: Range changes one level in the direction you want. (Closer if you're charging, farther if you're fleeing.) You cannot dodge and change range on the same roll.
Class C: Range changes up to two levels in the direction you choose.

You cannot dodge and change range on the same roll, although it's legal to use a B- or C-class success as an A-class instead.

4. Character sheet says that TacMov deals with "speed of travel", but between the QM rulings, this doc, and player rules doc, I haven't been able to locate an explicit relation between TacMov level and speed of travel.
It's not something we've worried about. Typically we say "ninja travel at 20mph overland" and don't sweat the details. There's a limit to how much math we want to do and how many spoons we are willing to devote to doing it. 15-ish hours per week is already enough time and effort.

Are Multiple Combatant Rules resolved based off of base dice, or is chakra boost accounted for?
Base dice, not including styles, chakra boosts, pangolin-gifted clawed gauntlets, etc. Ditto for how much chakra boost you can apply.

Can we get a detailed description of how shaped charges work?
Kagome hasn't taught you the shaped charge seal, although you've seen it so you could research it if you wanted. Here's what you know from observation:

They release an explosion (heat and force) that exists only within a single conical area and exerts no force on the seal itself.

The heat is roughly equivalent to a campfire, so it will set paper and other tinder on fire, but the duration is generally not long enough to do more than scorch thick wood. (Yes, you have seen him use a shaped charge to light the campfire.)

The force is sufficient to kill a person very, very thoroughly.

You have never seen the intensity of the heat or the force vary.

The shape and size of the cone is set at seal creation time. The point of the cone is at the center of the seal and the height of the cone (i.e. the range of the blast) is normal to the surface of the seal. The base of the cone may be either a circle or an ellipse.

Kagome typically creates three settings:

  • Circular with a 160 degree angle at the point. Used for splatting close-in opponents that are good at dodging.
  • Very flattened elliptical cone that is effectively a blade. Used for his not-suicide belts so that they don't catch your own arms when they go off
  • Very flattened short-range cone that he uses as a force axe for cutting firewood.

You've seen him make ones with a range of 1-6 meters. (i.e. Melee or Medium range)

They are always one-use only.

How does Chakra Boosting work with respect to how long it lasts? Does chakra boosting taijutsu last for only a single roll of taijutsu or for the entire fight? Similar for other things. Would chakra boosting Water Whip last for the duration of the time that you had it channeled, thus giving it additional advantage over other techniques?
Chakra boosting affects one roll.

I was working under the assumption that it was instead adding the minimum of her YF level or 3*Min(Stam-Str, Str-Stam).

Nope. It's correct as written.

I agreed with @Radvic, I am not sure if we have any business telling one of Jiraiya's agent/client what to do.

We are here to complete a mission, not change our client's morality.

I don't think earth sensing works on the ground.

Also, I would prefer that the team do not all enter the same hole/window/door. Multiple direction is better, or failing that, multiple holes.

Added multiple entry points and cleaned up duplicates

Ideally, that is not necessary at all, but I will fix that up shortly.
All ready have silence mines in place
What I mean is that silence mines do not get rid of sound entirely and explosive seals are very loud. I strongly suspect that silence mines will not be enough.

@Radvic Would you both rather we just not take the mission? 'Cause that's the other option. It's not about changing the client's morality, it's about following our own.

I'd rather we blew some stuff up and fed a guy to a snake. Preferably quickening the demise of a dying town in the process while revealing as few of our secrets as possible and taking the minimum amounts of risk.

Nah, I'd say your presenting a false dichotomy. Besides, I'm pretty sure the same arguments Hazou uses to justify killing people attacking him (because it'll lead to a better future where he fixes stuff) work here (it'll lead to a better future where he's more informed on stuff and so able to save more lives).

Talk to Minami about changing the mission perimeter regarding our target. Make sure she OKAY the thing about changing the client's action regarding feeding him to his snake.
...Why would we need her permission to save a dude's life?

No, I definitely was; apologies if it seemed like I was doing so manipulatively rather than facetiously.

Gah. So far behind and no time to catch up.

If we use a silence mine when cutting a hole, put it on the part we're cutting out, so when it falls it doesn't move outside the silence area and make noise when it lands.

(But only if it won't fall where the mine will silence people and give us away that way. Also, clean it up after.)

Despite relying on Minami's approval on the mission to buy Akane stuff, I'm going to vote for
[X] Ninjas not murderers
because it has better planning and gives Minami a bit more leeway.
