Side note: Naruto's Jonin-sensei is Nakamura Dai? I'm surprised Kakashi didn't bully to teach his sensei's son.

Seems like a question we'd ask Minami or Mari-sensei?

I mean, unless it's critical to ask Jiraiya specifically I'd much rather shunt questions away from Mr. Tired Godaime Hokage.

Asking Minami will get us standard gear. Asking the Hokage aka dad might get us OP loot. I would take the risk of a slightly grumpy Hokage over the odds of us not getting murdered in the field

Couldn't hurt just for a mention. Would be great if we could get something like chakra blades for Keiko or things along those lines. Unlikely, but on balance definitely worth it.

So, on the subject of force walls.
It is my current understanding that the wall does not impart any force onto the supporting seals. And the wall is technically mobile, as long as the seals stay in alignment. So if you support the seals with a rigid frame, you can move the wall around. And if you load the wall with an arbitrary amount of weight, the effective weight is just the weight of the frame. Can someone confirm or clarify that this is how they work?

Give a hug if appropriate.

While I agree with the sentiment, this is mechanically awkward. Jiraiya is presumably still sitting behind the desk, and there are a number of guards around. How do we do this, exactly? Seems to just be begging for a really awkward scene that doesn't net us any points with anyone.

Another note: mentioned this earlier, but you might have missed it. I think we should leave Jiraiya with Banshee seals and research notes, on the off chance that they are useful to him. Even if they provide only marginal benefit, marginal benefit times the entirety of Leaf's forces is still quite a bit of an intervention. We should definitely take the time to do this, and it's unfortunate that we didn't before the Ultimate Showdown.

Also, I don't see it in the plan, but we definitely need to stop by and see Mari. Just for general emotional support, out of respect to her as our sensei, and also to remind her of Kagome's theories and to ask if there's anything worth conveying to Jiraiya. (Not the crazier things, but any intel he mentioned about the Bijuu locations, Akatsuki, etc. Might be useful).

I think you guys are underestimating how grumpy the Hokage is RN...

No underestimations here, I'm sure he's quite grumpy. I still think on balance it is worth it to ask something like: "Can we check with the supplier/quartermaster for specialized gear, seals, and weaponry?"

Yeah, his public threat to kill a clan head in front of Konoha's elite says otherwise to me. Jiraiya's pissed right now.
Mmm, I don't know.
He has no logical reason to kill us, since we're valuable, and now in his clan.
He's also very tired and emotionally drained, so he doesn't really have the energy.
I think he'll understand that we would like some good equipment for this mission.

"Can we check with the supplier/quartermaster for specialized gear, seals, and weaponry?"
I don't mind asking this but I do mind asking Jiraiya this right now. Again, why can't we ask Minori if we could get specialized stuff?

For that matter..what specialized stuff do we need that could possibly benefit what equates to multiple C-rank delivery missions? Besides the Skywalkers, which we already have?
A clan head who was working against him. We are trying to optimize doing what The Hokage wants us to do.

Also he's literally our Dad now.
* O U R D A D I S D E A D .

We are doing a low risk mission to update a spynetwork. We are not going to be able to get anything more than a standard loadout. Asking to expensive stuff is going to look bad right now. We still have low popularity with the majority of the Clans within the village. Hold off on getting stuff until further into our stay as Leaf ninja.

Because Minori is not the Hokage. Who just adopted us. The Hokage who has sweet sweet seals and chakra blades and who knows what else. Which we can just ask for.

I don't know what we'd get, but if we don't ask, we'll never find out if there is anything interesting, or even if we could check.

More on point; it is actually in Leaf's interest to overequip us and ensure we have anything we could possibly need. Even if it's a Class-C mission, there is still some risk to Hazou's life. Minimizing that risk means increased chance of getting utility out of him in the future in the form of more revolutionary seals.

Further, I would bet Shikaku would agree with this assessment.

E: Actually my model of Shikaku is giving Jiraiya flak for sending us anywhere in the first place. If given half the opportunity, I think he'd try to get Hazou reassigned elsewhere while the rest of the team goes on.

E2: I think I actually agree with my model of Shikaku here. Maybe we should bring this up. Was this brought up previously in thread? I think it might have been and I skimmed over it while tired out of my mind...

Nah, but it makes sense from Jiraiya's POV: we're not experienced enough and he doesn't trust our competence enough to not fuck something up in Konoha. He needs us away while he consolidates his position of power, and we shouldn't bring it up given present company and the current state of the world.

Again, we are being watched.

We have Kagome's Jounin-tier seal fighting on our side, and we have Skywalkers to avoid combat. We aren't expected to see any real combat and C-class missions are not dangerous. There's no need to try and get as much as we can out of Jiraiya given that we'll very likely frustrate him with the attempt, which beyond being plain rude is detrimental to Jiraiya doing a good job tomorrow.

We could ask for special equipment once we're out of Konoha anyway.

My model of Shikaku has him agree to sending us out, but having deep reservations. We do have an awe-inspiring ability to revolutionize warfare, but at the same time, having us in the village with the Hyuga and Uchiha is a massive political risk, and Nara knows this. If the Hyuga and Uchiha try to usurp power from Jiraiya, the attempt is going to split the leadership and power in the middle of a Leaf existential crisis, thus worsening the chances that Konohagakure continues to exist. Shikaku knows that awesome as the ability to win wars more convincingly is, having a state to win the war for is far more important to him. Therefore he's doing his best to minimize attack surfaces for Jiraiya's enemies to attack Jiraiya with so that Jiraiya can focus on being the best interim Hokage he can be.

That, and I think people underestimate how politically poisonous Hazou is. He's (1) a former missing-nin (2) who defected from his original village and (3) whose acceptance and promotion to chunin was railroaded through, (4) has demonstrably poor social skills, especially with superiors, and (5) got his team kicked out for threatening a well respected top doctor. We are one of the biggest attack surfaces that the enemies of Jiraiya can attack. This mission is a "get out of the city so that you don't say something stupid and get the city to destroy itself". It also incidentally handles something Jiraiya is likely too busy to be handling, so there's a lot of benefits, which Shikaku has to also be able to see.
