[X] Action Subplan: Akane: Shipper's Delight
Ask Akane how you know when you like someone. She's older than you, she probably has it figured out, right? Watch her blush, let her respond. Then tell her she checks off all those boxes for you (or a lot of them; don't lie if she brings up things that don't apply). Probably hold her hand or brush her hair off her forehead or something, I'm pretty sure that's what people do with people they like.
THIS IS TERRIBLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

Indeed, this is against USPS regulations! :p

Funny you should say that...

[X] Action Plan: Steal This Plan
[X] Ino Response Plan: Complex Seed Planting

Also, I'm going to suggest the following for those who are lukewarm on the Ship Of Fiery Youth:
(Using a less messy prefix, because multiple colons is a pain in the ass)

[X] Akane Interaction Plan: Growing Strong
  • "So, we stopped by a bookstore, and I saw a few books. Would you like a book to read while you get better? The books I saw were *list books*"
  • "It's fine if you don't feel up to reading engineering texts, but I thought you might enjoy the manga as light entertainment."
  • Also, ask if there are any games or puzzles she'd like to have, to entertain herself with while we're not around. (I'm guessing the ENs don't have crosswords, but maybe sudoku?)
    • Because recovering is tedious business, and we don't want it to bring Akane down. Also, books and puzzles are always fun!
  • "You mean a lot to me."
    • Not a conversation opener - just something to say while leaving, but with emphasis
    • Because she does, and she's got few pleasant things in her life right now
    • And she deserves to know
    • But Hazou isn't completely sure how far he wants to (or can) go with this, and taking more time to figure that out seems better than trying to hash things out with her explicitly right now
THIS IS TERRIBLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

Sounds like someone's jealous. Why don't you work on getting Ino in the hospital so we can go all hurt/comfort on her? :p

(To be clear, teasing OliWhail is not part of my plan.)
(That's a lie, it's part of all my plans.)

Let's compromise: I'll vote for this if you avoid bringing up engineering texts except if she asks for something productive to do?

Don't tempt me
Sure! And who, me? Tempt anyone into ridiculous drama plans? Neeeeever.

Edit: Just realized Steal This Plan references "plans of the form 'Action Subplan Akane*'"; editing plan name to (*sigh*) conform.

  • "So, we stopped by a bookstore, and I saw they had this Seven Shinobi Swordsmen manga. Were you ever into that series? Are there any other series or authors you think we could find for you, or favorite books you'd enjoy rereading?"
    • Entertainment! Also, she's been gone long enough that her favorite authors/series probably have new books out.
  • Discuss engineering texts if-and-only-if she asks about them and seems well enough to get some use out of them (as opposed to beating herself up for not being able to do something useful)
    • Because she can already contribute plenty, and right now her job is to get better from the injury we weren't able to save her from
  • Also, ask if there are any games or puzzles she'd like to have, to entertain herself with while we're not around. (I'm guessing the ENs don't have crosswords, but maybe sudoku?)

[X] Action Subplan: Library of Unknown Unknowns

Goals
:
  1. Gain general knowledge relevant to our interests
  2. Gain knowledge relevant to running our merchant empire
  3. Gain knowledge relevant to Hidden Heaven
Methods
  • Seek out a wordworking book for Kagome
    • Because (1) stress-reduction and (2) we'd rather not have to buy one; the freer the better
  • Seek out and read Elemental Nations Vol. 1,2 and 4, unless Nara is willing to lend us a copy (ask him first)
    • Because (1) this is good for building rapport, both by showing genuine interest in one of his interests and the Ben Franklin effect and (2) the freer the better
    • Read them, starting at the beginning, until either we're finished or are out of time
  • Seek out books that are at the root of a large knowledge tree we know nothing of.
    • Ask a librarian for an introductory book on every subject we anticipate being relevant to our interests. If we're unsure whether a tree of knowledge is going to be relevant, get an introductory book and give up on it if it's looking like a tree we won't use.
      • That is, ask the librarian to iterate through every subject they've divided their nonfiction books into. If we anticipate it being relevant to our interests or are genuinely uncertain, ask for an introductory book in it
    • Because, for all we know, there are fields of knowledge that could prove enormously useful but we don't even know they exist to study them.
    • Read the introductory bits.
    • Order them by importance
    • Read them until we're finished or are out of time.
  • Seek out books relevant to setting up a merchant empire, if we finish all above books
    • Economics
    • Geography (or caravan routes, if that book exists)
    • Management
    • Because there's a good chance we begin setting up our merchant empire before we come back to Konoha or anywhere else civilized enough to have books.
    • Read the introductory bits; order them by importance; read them in that order until we're finished or out of time.
  • Seek out books relevant to setting up Hidden Heaven, if we finish all above books
    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Government
    • Because Hidden Heaven is our long-term goal.
    • Read the introductory bits; order them by importance; read them in that order until we're finished or out of time.

[X] Action Subplan: Library of Knowing Unknowns

Goals
:
  1. Use our limited time in the library efficiently to select future targets
  2. Seek out knowledge relevant to running our merchant empire and / or Hidden Heaven
  3. Seek out books relevant to personal interests
Methods
  • Seek out a wordworking book for Kagome
    • Because (1) stress-reduction and (2) we'd rather not have to buy one; the freer the better
  • Check if the History of the Elemental Nations Vol. 1,2 and 4 are available, unless Nara is willing to lend us his copies (ask him first, and be understanding if he refuses to lend us very expensive books)
    • Because (1) this is good for building rapport, both by showing genuine interest in one of his interests and the Ben Franklin effect and (2) the freer the better
    • Ask Nara because we were told actually borrowing from the library would likely not be allowed, and we'd like to be able to read in our downtime instead of just at the library.
  • Figure out how the library/ies is/are organized - what subject areas are there that relate to politics, social science and psychology, logistics, engineering, chakra and ninja arts (particularly sealing and technique hacking), natural sciences, agriculture, and tactics
    • Nicely ask a librarian for an overview of what is present and where it might be found.
      • Because being nice helps, and the librarian(s) will know a lot more about what's present than we or even our minders (except quite possibly Nara, since he's a nerd like us).
Contingencies
  • If asked why we are interested in these subjects, answer that we anticipate that at least some of them will have low-hanging fruit and/or be relevant to building up our own skills and resources in the mid-to-long term. If asked whether or why we seriously think we're so clever as to personally be able to improve on areas hundreds or thousands of people have worked on, reply that we're afraid that's classified and we can neither confirm nor deny any such thing.

Both of these plans lack a necessary step 0: doing reconnaissance to see all non-fiction topics available in the library.
  • Why? Because verifying what is and is not common knowledge can drastically affect our plans and we have no idea what we will find until we peruse every non-fiction topic in the library. This also gives us the added benefit of our Leaf handlers not figuring out what we plan to do based on our reading habits. Something is going to seem very odd if we read about engineering and management books exclusively as soon as we enter the building.
    • For example, we had no idea our watch tower seal would be so revolutionary for Leaf. For all we know, other fields of science may not exist here, like forensics, that could allow us to adjust our plans accordingly (we no longer have to worry as much about leaving fingerprints behind).
One more thing to keep in mind is that Hazou is still only a thirteen year old kid with no advanced education beyond how to murder people. Hazou is going to need a ton of reference materials (like basic math that neither plan has included) to even make sense of the subjects our hivemind is actually interested in. Just because we have an idea of what subjects we want to delve into already does not mean that those subjects are the only ones worth our time. Having a list of all topics means we can pick and choose after we know all of the options available to us. We can then devote our time more appropriately, but just focusing on a narrow list of subjects is akin to jumping head first into a hostile environment since we have a "decent idea of what we want to do". Why not do our due diligence and do some scouting first?

I can list a few topics both plans missed if necessary, but I hope y'all get the point.

@bayesclef if you get the chance, you should probably note that Velorien not feel pressured to write all of the plan, even stuff not marked with the (O). We went a little crazy with the plan this time.

@Jello_Raptor Please note in It's Complicated that these things don't need to be stated verbatim, but rather this shows the tone of what we intend to say.

Do we really need to talk to Akane and go to the library this update? We already have to choose how we respond to Ino and one of the former options should be more than enough for one update.

Actually, what is our itinerary for the rest of the day? Are we booked to go to the library? Are we scheduled to visit Akane again? Do we know which order those events are going to happen in, if they are going to happen at all?

I just don't want to give our QM's a heart attack when they see this latest vote.

You tried to see Akane when you dropped Noburi off; Kabuto told you that she was asleep and shouldn't be disturbed.

It's about 12pm now and the plan is to get lunch then go to one of the training grounds and train. Exactly what to train is still up in the air.

Hakane shippers, hear me! The true menace isn't the force of Inozou shippers at our door, but the Akou shippers in our very midst!

We must root out these quislings wherever they appear!
I'm both a Hakane and an Akou shipper, but claim that the former term, while referring to the same pairing, should only be reserved for formal occasions.
I'm also not a Hakane/Akou shipper, for such is forbidden, but I'm considering it. Metaships are such an enticing field (sea?) of madness.
I claim the set of [gay guys, asexual guys, and guys who have not hit puberty] covers the set of guys not physically attracted to gals :p
Fair enough, I was just saying the set of [non-gay-non-asexual teen boys not physically attracted to gals] very probably includes 1000+ people.

There are so many plans with so many different names that all have the same structure it's hard to keep track
Can we not just slightly reword existing plans rather than making a new one every time?

As far as I can tell, 'complex seed' and 'it's complicated' are the same plan under different names
