Many questions, but let's start with did Mari and Yuno take Consequences from this? Anything Noburi can't handle in a ~day?
Yes. Noburi reports that it looks similar to chakra system injuries he's seen on ninja that overdrew their reserves. He doesn't yet know how long it'll take to clear up. He'll have a better answer if he takes a couple hours looking at them, but that's out of scope for this question.

Is this cave in the triangle Jashin drew for us in Sand? For the Otter Scroll I mean
What triangle? It is comfortably west from the "main cluster" of rolls produced, but it is nearly on top of some of the specific dice locations.

Couple more questions, is this nook within combat sprint distance of the door? Ie. Could we buff up and sprint to the otters?
Not within a single round of sprint, but Noburi thinks you could get there within thirty seconds if you hustled. If you don't wait long, it'll even be pre-cleared (whereas if you wait longer, it might have more beasts than usual as the scavengers go after the bodies of the beasts Noburi killed).

Does the cave look like it could handle explosive seals going off? If we blow the otters/otter statue up. Is the roof gonna come down?
HDK.

Is there a finer grained estimate here? How long did it take them to get drained from half of their reserves compared to when Noburi drains them? About the same? Much faster?
Unfortunately not. Not only is chakra is hard to quantify, but they weren't paying attention to their reserves until it was too late.

for the QMs, does Kei have any Summons she doesn't like?
Plenty. Unfortunately, many of them are going to be too big to squeeze through the cave's cramped confines.

@Paperclipped @Velorien @eaglejarl

Asked on Discord, but Noburi could seemingly sense his own chakra as it was being drained (from the barrel), but didnt attempt to counter that pull by using the Vampiric Dew, right? Something like that might be an option we should perhaps bring up to him in an action plan?

[X] Action Plan: Fuck It We Ball
Word Count: <399
  • Everyone buy up to 6 FP or until they run out of XP
  • Discuss/sanity check/optimize plan with team
  • Otter Creatures
    • Seem to be primarily chakra drainers.
      • Noburi, the double thunk + statue you observed is consistent with a third otter draining Candoru and then transforming to stone from the nature chakra.
      • We could use more Summons as suicide bombers. Kill them with nature chakra. Kagome, any Arachnids that would agree to this? It's extremely unpleasant for the Summon. We need low-cost physically small Summons that follow orders. Rules out most of our Clans.
      • Otters in the desert? That's ecologically unlikely. This could be from someone signing the Otter Scroll without the proper training, and causing a huge mess.
        • Keep an eye out for the Scroll, but the beasts could have just migrated here to feed. It is a chakra cave.
      • Kagome do these creature bear resemblance to gaki? They are both devourers.
      • These things seem to eat jutsu, be careful, Noburi especially. Be prepared to yank back any of your chakra they try to drain.
  • Assault the Cave
    • Wait until Mari/Yuno are healed (if they have Milds) and everyone is full up on chakra. If they have Moderates or worse, proceed without them.
      • ES a blank for the Capacitor Rune
    • Send only Primes, specifically Hazou with the entire team as a guard contingent. Infuse the Capacitor rune as bait.
      • Timeladder up maximally.
      • Pre-conceal rune from Summon, trap it with skyslicers. Place it in the entrance chamber
      • Summon the suicide bombers. Retreat to the mouth of the cave and wait for them to pop. Rebalance chakra.
      • Make backup SCs to leave behind as chakra batteries for the team. Leave everyone at half reserves, this thing seems to be attracted to excess chakra.
    • After an hour or two, if the bait wasn't taken, start reclearing the cave. Nobs on high alert for chakravores. Sweep the nook.
      • MARS chain without Banshees or Strobelights.
      • If spotted, attack otters with physical weapons, not ninjutsu. Noburi should focus on activating MARS'd misterators, redirecting any drain from the Otters by playing tug-of-war with the VD, and looking for more chakra shadows.
      • Afterwards, keep exploring and using mist-drain to clear the cave of any regular beasts. Noburi keeps alert for more chakravores.

Doesn't Kei have an assassin Pangolin who can use some variant of Hiding Like a Mole/Stone Swimming or something?

[ ] Action Plan: Fuck It We Ball

  • Kill the otters, keep alert for drain. Kei and Tenten if you can snipe them from a distance, that's preferred.

May want to slap an Electric or FC seal on the kunai, just in case they're like the Ghosts? Maybe Kei does one, Tenten does the other, just to ensure all our bases are covered in case one of the two seals don't work?

Man this is a *deadly* cavern. It took down an elite jōnin in a way that would have left her eaten (or worse!) by chakra monsters had she not been traveling with someone with juuuuust the right bloodline to get her back awake

Send Hazou SC + guard contingent. Infuse the rune as bait.

The drain works very quickly through Shadow Clones: none of the SC were like "Damn where my chakra?" They just popped and the caster collapsed. We cannot afford that mid-infusion.

We should do it ourselves and have a hoard of elemental clones around as action economy fodder, its actually likely to be much safer since they arent linked to us the same way (we tested this!).

I just had a stupid idea: ditch the cave entirely. Instead, make it obvious we were here and draw akatsuki attention to it while we dip out.

They come to investigate. If Itachi comes he'd use shadow clones to spring traps the obvious sealmasters left behind (include actual traps, of course.) Laugh as Itachi gets fucked.

Vampiric Right
Prereqs: Vampiric Dew 40, CR 30, impetus to develop this stunt.

Within the area through which the user of this technique can drain, they are able to protect others (and their belongings) from drain as well.

They are only able to protect peoples' chakra less than (CR*1.5*10) OR (Vampiric Dew AB * 5), whichever is higher; any more than that, and they do not benefit from this stunt. This stunt only protects people with human chakra and human chakra systems. This only works on unique persons. (Snowflake counts. Multiple Snowflakes do not. Using Snowflake to avoid putting Kei at risk doesn't count. Chakra is a troll.)

The user may protect as many as Vampiric Dew AB persons with a single supplemental action every round, or Vampiric Dew AB * 1.5 with two.

Suggestion: Bring up disrupting the otters' shadows to disrupt their chakra drain through Daybright seals.
Do we know they are draining through shadows or is that just supposition based on what we know is possible?

Also I suggest no clones at all for an assault. We don't know what they are doing - we know elemental clones are disconnected from the user as far as we were able to determine, but these could be draining along something we can't detect/test for.

To be clear, Noburi's chakra was going from his barrel to the otters' shadows (like the literal shadows) to the otters?
Shadow as in "dark spot in Noburi's chakra sense where the otters were physically" not "dark spot on the cave wall where Noburi's Jiraiya's Awesome Daybright Lantern was obstructed by the otters' physical form".

Yes, Noburi did not bother trying to pull back and just ran. You can bring it up to him.

I think using Shadow Clones here is going to be suicidal (the chakra drain popping clones and transferring to prime was like instant, none of them noticed anything amiss) so I'd really rather not do that.

I think we're going to have to roll up our sleeves on this one.

Ping me for edits and stuff on this one but feel free to fork it.

    • Seem to be primarily chakra drainers.

      • We could use summons as suicide bombers. Kill them with nature chakra. It's very unpleasant though. Do we have enough willing summons? There could be more otters...
      • We could potentially bait them out with a Capacitor Rune if they're attracted to chakra.
      • This is obviously from someone signing the Otter Scroll without training and causing a huge mess.
        • Keep an eye out for the Scroll, but the beasts could have just migrated here to feed since the pool is here. It's likely not a coincidence they are here either way.
      • Kagome are these gaki? They seem to be similar. Any ideas on what to do?
    • We know from the sealing failure cavern and the Dragons that sometimes strange beings like this are vulnerable to active ninjutsu or fuinjutsu effects. Might have to use ninjutsu like SotS or seals to coat our weapons, but would jutsu just get sapped away anyway? Maybe we should just use normal ranged weapons to attack? What do we think?
    • Either way, Shadow Clone is probably out. These were drained very fast.
    • Noburi, do you think you would be able to neutralize their drain via active application of the Vampiric Dew? You could feel your own chakra as it was drained away, but could you negate the drain somehow? Tug of war or just focusing on keeping the targeted chakra in place with your bloodline?
    • Elemental Clones might be helpful as cheap fodder. They'd get drained fast, but we don't know if flesh and blood humans would fair better.
    • Noburi what do you mean when you say "heart" in reference to these creatures? Like they have a chakra drain field or something centered near them?
  • Assault the Cave
    • Wait until Mari/Yuno are healed and everyone is full up on chakra.
      • Scribe and infuse a bunch of MS2 and MS3 seals, the ones that gather large amounts of environmental chakra.
    • Hazou + a guard contingent. Put down the chakra gathering seals as bait. Deploy where the squad thinks is most tactically advantageous.
      • Trap the area with some with skyslicers and some ninja wire with lightning chakra seals, or whatever else Hazou and Kagome think will work.
      • Summon any summons who are willing to kamikaze. Retreat to the mouth of the cave and wait for them to pop.
      • Take Ranged Weapons potshots.
    • After an hour or so, if the bait wasn't taken, buff up (don't bother with PEA) and sprint to the nook.
      • MARS chain without Banshees or Strobelights
      • Kill the otters, keep alert for drain. Kei and Tenten if you can snipe them from a distance, that's preferred.
      • Everyone is expected to run for it if their reserves fall too low.
    • Assuming everyone is okay afterwards proceed to the pool. Continue using mist drain to clear mundane creatures, but be vigilant since there might be more otter-gaki.

So... since it's possible to drain someone's chakra through their shadow clones, that kind of sounds like something we should figure out and weaponize.

Didn't think of that. Can they one shot Jonin? Huh.

Does that mean we should expect to uncover a bunch of ninja bodies in the cave that we can loot?

Seconded. Also Naruto might be much weaker than we thought.

Huh. Then (@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped) did there appear to be any medium between the otters and Noburi? Like, was his chakra moving in a straight line through the air from Noburi to the otters? Did it travel through the ground to reach the otters?

Good point, I'll cut it.
