No we haven't. Blot was properly revealed as gunning for Russ the turn before the Auction, and we haven't prepared in any way last turn or in the turns where we only knew about him OOC. Decentralize the Normbots, the bare minimum, is only getting done this turn, and only because we have nothing better for L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. to do. We researched Resinferatoxin before that, even.

Information we can't act upon in any way is by definition useless. It doesn't hurt, but it doesn't help either. What priorities would you be willing to put on the back-burner in order to use the information given by the action? If the answer is none, they might as well not exist for most of the time. We'd just be doing them because there's literally nothing else to do. If we had Intrigue actions that give us more direct benefits or even helped us with we already want to do, that'd be a different story. But otherwise it's just literally filler and doing anything that would advance our interest would be better. But we don't get that option, so filler it is.
Celena the Shy has already given us several benefits, other than vague warnings of the future. Furthermore, we have taken actions to prepare for Blot.

You have gained cryptic warnings as to the future!
Certain future DCs have been reduced!
Certain random rolls have been altered!
Your PMC has grown in effectiveness slightly, and now grants an extra -1 malus to attacks made on your home turf!

Your already negligible chances of accidentally killing someone have been further reduced! Combat rolls made against enemies in Doofania get +2!
And that is just from Sept/Oct. Prior to that we have Dinosaur mounties giving a bonus with crime, among others.

How does knowing our enemy's actions not help our interests? Knowledge is power, man. It's at least nice not to be blindsided. I'm not even sure what you're complaining about anymore.

I think he's complaining about us not being able, or willing, to follow up our Intrigue actions. For example, investigating the Dorito or Drossel would be nice, but would we do anything about it? Probably not. The same applies to those behind High Command, are we willing to go after them after we know who they're? I don't think so. The same applies to almost all of our Intrigue actions. So we should try to unlock actions that we're actually able to follow up through the Other-dimensionalinator, like Intrigue in Mewni.

Although here I think he's ignoring that something like intrigue in Mewni, or others dimensions, has the same problems he's arguing the rest of our intrigue actions have. Are we able to follow up said action attacking Toffee? No. Would we be willing, for example, to sabotage Mewni? Again no, the risk of getting caught by Toffee is too great. Should we investigate other dimensions to try to know what is happening in the war Phobos vs Toffee? why for? We are unable to interfere there so is useless.

Edit: All in all I don't think he's wrong since it's true that we're unable/unwilling to follow up most of our intrigue actions though for the same reason I can't agree that using the Other-dimensionalinator would unlock better intrigue options since they'd suffer from the same problem.

He already tried to influence us in the Auction about the Magic Masquerade.

And despite Xanatos being a bit manipulative about how he phrased things, Russ still ended up agreeing with the general gist of asking us to keep the lid on the Magical Masquerade for the benefit of all, despite our misgivings.

Honestly, I see that option as essentially our equivalent to the one time Shego simply had a little peek at us and our turf without active malicious intent.

That being said, I am not super invested about that kind of action regardless of target, so...*shrugs*

Just gonna buuump this, now that the thread is more active.

So, here's my explanation for this:
This plan is focused on Computing/Robotics, Genetics, and Occult, with a Side action or two on Security

Robotics/Computing:
We have Wendy doing the next step in our AI tree, and Alan fixing our Cyber-security (which will only go higher since we have Cybugs now). Recruiting Wasabi and Reaching out to the Zaibatsu should increase our options regarding tech generally (and genetics, but that's another section). Decentralizing Normbots and the power armor are security issues, but I think they play into robotics well enough to include them in the plan. having Khan Study will either reduce or remove his Malus with regards to tech which is also useful. Norm Trying to become a real boy is because I want to save the AI upgrade for the next bunch of AI advancement. And the One Man's Trash quest opens up the (non-genocidal) robot king (and gives Hego "something important" to do).

Genetics:
Jumba on Human Genetics opens that tree, and reaching out to Zaibatsu should give us options with Sycorax. The Drug cartel isn't really genetics? But the timing is good and the end goal of this tree is superpowers, so I feel it fits.

Occult:
Tom on Celena the Shy with his Bonus to raising the dead starts this off. The QM has said that he'll agree to this, and we have a free action with Tom since his Hell-sitting counter resets in January. So it's good to attempt it now. We're moving the castle, because we have to, but it also unlocks Malphy for recruiting which grants us more occult options. We're also using Russ' Intrigue and the Astral Talisman to spy on the drug ring. I'm hoping this allows him to add his Occult to this action, or that his occult gives a slight buff to the talisman, in either event, ideally Shego won't see him. Kitsune is teaching Janna to satisfy Goblin Fox. Hopefully this will Boost Janna's occult. Dennis is Studying the occult item the perfect Sandwich. Hopefully this will boost his stats in some way. Janna is Recruiting Marco for our possible Star Versus Heroball. He should be a more reliable occult unit than any we can currently recruit. Tobe is studying Ninja Magic and hopefully he'll boost his occult score that way.

Security:
Alan is handling Cybersecurity, Ludvine is handling our personal security, decentralizing Normbots makes us more secure, as does reorganizing OWCA, Investigating the supervillain Attacks, and Spying on Employees. Teh Dickens Spying on our Employees can Show then We're not up to anything evil.

And that is just from Sept/Oct. Prior to that we have Dinosaur mounties giving a bonus with crime, among others.
No one voted for Dinosaur Mounts to help against Blot, it was to get Khan a mount; if it didn't reduce crime it would have been done anyway. Resinferatoxin was not chosen because it would help against Blot, but because it was an easy DC for L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N.; if didn't help against crime, we would have done so anyway.

You don't get to claim incidental benefits of the things we were going to do anyway and had nothing to do with the Blot as "preparing against the Blot". That's just not how preparation works. Arguably we aren't preparing for the Blot even now, because Decentralize is being chosen just because it's an easy DC again.

And wow, Celena the Shy helped us in nebulous and completely unactionable ways, I'm very impressed.

Power is power. Knowledge merely helps leverage the power you have effectively; all the knowledge in the world would be useless if you were completely unable to do anything.

But you are right, I should just stop arguing because I'm complaining about how Intrigue actions just seem to work at this point, and not about any particular plan or quester.

This is more of a desperate hope than anything to be honest; and the Other-dimensionator might actually unlock actions in a category that actually does stuff too. Maybe Mewni contact would allow us to recruit some Hero units? People universally seem to like those.

But mostly, I just want to stop flailing around randomly. It appears I won't get that.

Ok, so as someone who only joined in here recently, I would like to ask for a bit of clarification. We can only select a certain number of national actions in each category, correct? Is there somewhere to check how many of each we have? Am I missing something here?

Yes I do get to claim them as benefit. Because there certainly were people considering more than one benefit to the actions! We've been wanting to Decentralize for a long time now, we just haven't had the action economy to take it. Luck be a Lady was a rather shocking warning. The issue of Blot hacking our Normbots isn't non existent.

I am glad you are impressed! Because I'd rather have premonition of shit going down than to be completely blindsided.

Ok, so as someone who only joined in here recently, I would like to ask for a bit of clarification. We can only select a certain number of national actions in each category, correct? Is there somewhere to check how many of each we have? Am I missing something here?
We can take 1 Martial, 2 Diplomacy, 2 Stewardship, 2 Learning, 2 Intrigue, and 1 Occult actions.

[] Plan: Genetic Genius

I dislike ignoring the ongoing issue with DoofOS and ignoring our internal issues of the hour by sending Russ to randomly infiltrate San Fransokyo and putting Monogram into investigating the supervillain attacks.

Likewise, although I want to finally poke the drug ring, I think that the Dickens at Large purchase may be overkill that may not even yield all that many results, since they are unlikely to give us any stuff they happen to find in their investigation.

[] Plan: Crystal Key & Wasabi

Same issues with Intrigue as with the previous plan, otherwise I like it a little better.

[ ] Plan: Turtle Formation

I generally like the idea of reaching out to Deavor, but NOT the idea of revealing to her the presence of Mirage within our payroll. She is likely to know of her as Syndrome's once right hand woman. Other than that, I am chiefly concerned about the fact that this one doesn't contemplate Normbot decentralization.

[] Plan: Strong Foundations

No outstanding issues. I may vote this one, I think.

[ ] Plan: In Dice we Trust

This one is pretty reasonable, but I am unsure about a few things like the Talisman assignments. Can Mirage or Rodney even use those things without an Occult score of some kind? I am not sure if that has been established at this point.

[ ] Plan: Turtle Formation

Still the same basic issues I had with the original version of the plan.

[] Plan: Letting The Newbies Shine

I like it for the most part... except for the part in which we are not investigating employees, in spite of having an active saboteur.

[-] Plan: Prepare for Trouble

As seems to be the case in this turn, I disagree with the choices in Intrigue, along with a few minor details.

Plan Sorcery, Sabotage, and Science!(Solidified)

[...]
On the Research agreement, I'm 60% sure Xanatos has Dr Anton Sevarius as a hero unit, which means a partnership with him could help us down the genetics tech tree that let's us make Sick Nasty Mutants(tm)

I am 75% sure that Xanatos doesn't have Sevarius as his employee at this point. Gen-U-Tech apparently being operating autonomously from Xanatos Enterprises suggests that he may be there.

[ ] Plan: Doofenshmirtz vs the forces of good

Don't care for the Glooms and Kitsune is unavailable for Crystal Key research (Goblin Fox trait), so probably this is not viable.

I have to go do a couple of things in RL right now, so I'll review the rest of the suggested plans later. Apologies to anyone whom I annoy by quoting old versions of their plans.

Ok, so as someone who only joined in here recently, I would like to ask for a bit of clarification. We can only select a certain number of national actions in each category, correct? Is there somewhere to check how many of each we have? Am I missing something here?

1 martial national action, 2 of diplomacy, stewardship, learning and intrigue, 1 of occult.

LOVEMUFFIN also can do an action in any category on their own, although the issue with them is that they have low stats.

We can also get one extra Intrigue by sacrificing one of Doof's four personal actions and money to hire the Dickens Detective Agency.

So, wait, your problem isn't that people aren't voting, it's that they aren't voting for the right reasons? I feel like your problem isn't with Intrigue actions, it's that you feel we shouldn't take any action that don't have immediate, concrete benefits and/or that you don't trust your fellow Questers to successfully follow-through on anything that doesn't have immediate concrete ETC...

1 in Martial and Occult, for now at least, and two in everything else.

Another reason I think investigating our employees with Dickens is a good idea if we want to permanently recruit them is that it shows we aren't really doing anything actually evil.

They will check out all our stuff and come to the same conclusion Russ did.

And then BOOM... we get 55 intrigue hero and family on staff permanently.

...well probably not that easily but we would probably be a lot closer.

Oh, and they would find any spies and Kat and stuff. You know, side benefits.

I didn't realize it until you pointed it out, but I think this a very good reason to put the Dickens to investigate our employees if we ever want to recruit them.

Actually, the Blot is actually a great example of what I'm talking about, since even if we didn't know the Blot was coming we'd most likely still have chosen all the same actions we did since they were done for reasons completely unrelated to the Phantom Blot, so knowing about him has shaped exactly zero of our decisions so far and we'd be exactly as prepared to fight against him as if we didn't know about him at all. So, what good knowing about him actually done to us so far?

They are benefits, I agree, but not preparation. Again, see above; we'd have those bonuses whether the Blot existed or not. What did we do specifically because we knew the Blot existed? I can only think of talking to Russ, and we might have done that anyway. That didn't even make him more prepared in fighting the Blot directly, it just made him more loyal, and not even enough to change his bonuses. As preparation goes that's pretty weak.
Yes, we shouldn't take actions that don't benefit us if we are talking about good play. And I trust Questers to have inconsistent behavior, not out of any malice, but simply because this is a democratic process involving many different people with many different interests, and a plan wins when enough of those interests, or a coalition of them, reach the most votes. This is not very conducive to protracted and dedicated conflicts, which unfortunately seems what we need to change the setting. As such, we should try to remove as many problems as we can so we can focus on them effectively.

I think Intrigue actions might actually harm us, because the moment we hear about a problem we already feel a vague sense of responsibilities towards it, which distracts us and dilutes our efforts even more. We don't actually want more problems, here.

Again, if we could use Intrigue to proactively solve problems, this would be different, but it seems to be restricted to gathering information we can't actually use. We technically can change that with write-ins; but this barrier additional barrier when people are already discussing and proposing plans is something very hard to overcome, and unlike the GM we don't have world arbitration power to know what is feasible or not, wasting further time. I still haven't received a reply about the write-ins I asked, but it's too late at this point. So I basically view Intrigue as a filler category at best right now.

Yeah, it's VERY rare to take down a faction in one fell swoop. It only happened to Syndrome because of prep, and absurdly lucky rolls.

Bumping my plan now that the thread is waking up.

[X] Plan: Strong Foundations
-[X] National Actions:
--[X] Build a personal suit of power armor (Ludivine von Drake) (CoS: 57%, 67% w/ XP)
Basically thread consensus on this.

--[X] Recruit from your rolodex: Wasabi (Lee) (CoS: 75%, 85% w/ XP)
--[X] Reach out to leaders of the Zaibatsu (TECHNOR) (CoS: 99%, 99% w/ XP)
Since magical NY is off the table, the Zaibatsu are our best diplomacy target. Still don't have a strong opinion on who we recruit.

--[X] Move Castle Doofhawk to Doofania (Roddy Blair, King of Lairs) (CoS: 66%, 76% w/ XP)
--[X] Improve DoofOS Security (Alan Bradley) (CoS: 53%, 63% w/ XP)
As proposed in most early plans, puts our stewardship specialists to work on their specialties, taking care of 2 urgent actions. Dino park next turn.

--[X] Spy on your employees (Agent Russ) (CoS: 71%, 81% w/ XP)
--[X] Investigate Supervillain Attacks (Mirage) (CoS: 70%, 80% w/ XP)
--[X] Investigate the Middleton Drug Cartel (Dickens Detective Agency (Large))
Spy on employees is hard, but Russ has enough bonuses to power through. Note that this CoS is without Appeal to Authority which may or may not trigger. The Commador is a good alternative stat-wise, but I'm wary of giving a whole organization the ability to do a such a powerful intrigue action against us.
Otherwise looks into some super weirdness. If Evelyn is causing the attacks we get +20 on that roll. I do think these are more urgent than expanding our spy network: the lone supers have all been quite powerful, and the drug ring has good tech and is right next door. If we do catch them, folllow up on both is good for Shego collaboration.

--[X] Research Robo-Doppelganger bodies (Wendy Wower) (CoS: 79%, 89% w/ XP)
--[X] Research human genetics (Dr. Jumba Jookiba) (CoS: 99%, 99% w/ XP)
--[X] Decentralize your Normbots (L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N.) (CoS: 72%, 82% w/ XP)
Plays to our specialist's strengths, and patches a security hole before the Blot can exploit it to wipe out a good chunk of our martial forces. Once Jumba is Science Sated next turn we can have him study the Scrolls.

--[X] Summon Celena the Shy (Tom Lucitor) (CoS: 45%, 55% w/ XP)
Tom gets us some intel (with decent CoS) and frees up Tobe to put his +5 to use on personals

-[X] Personal Actions:
--[X] Doof:
---[X] Hire the Dickens Detective Agency (Large)
---[X] Chat with the Bossman: Dickens Detective Agency
---[X] Automatic Potion Brewing
---[X] Tinker with your Inators
Diplomacy with the Dickens, potions and possible occult development, and addresses the super-inator

--[X] Major Francis Monogram (Reorganize OWCA (150/250))
--[X] Genghis Khan (Study history)
--[X] Norm Prime (End your obsession with platypodes)
--[X] Dennis the Duck (Study the Perfect Sandwich)
--[X] Tobe and the Vagabond Ninja (Study the Jo-Lan Scrolls)
--[X] Vanessa (Job Shadow Mirage)
--[X] Kitsune (Train Janna)
--[X] Max (Job Shadow Russ)
Hero upgrades! Khan can try and get a stronger grounding for his science lessons next turn, Vanessa tries out the spy life, and Norm does his least risky personal.

--[X] Goofy (Finish your degree online)
Goofy works on his loyalty. Remember the dream queen? That didn't stop being a thing.

--[X] Janna Ordonia (Find Marco)
Necessary

-[X] Item Assignments:
--[X] Ruby Wings: Hego
--[X] XT9000 Jet Car: Wile E. Coyote, Genius
Gives our questants some mobility.

--[X] Jī Talisman: Agent Russ
--[X] Yáng Talisman: Agent Russ
Russ gets to use his occult to spy on employees

--[X] Amur: Janna
This might help? He'd also be useful on the quest, but better odds on Marco recruitment are more important

-[X] Quests:
--[X] One Man's Trash (Martial: 65, Diplomacy: 28, Stewardship: 47, Intrigue: 40, Learning: 58, Occult: 0)
---[X] Quest Leader: Wile E. Coyote, Genius
---[X] Queen Lizzie
---[X] Hego
-[X] Miscellaneous:
--[X] Don't Overclock TECHNOR

Plan Overview:
We play to our strengths to get some critical actions off the backburner and make progress in our specialties. Large investment in the Dickens (7 income + an extra Doof personal) but well worth it given the value of a floating action. Hero-wise we put most of them on loyalty boosting and self-improvement. Hego gets a chance to shine as the primary muscle on a quest. Unfortunately, this plan does nothing vs Doom
