Quick notes. The 1% success and 4% crit fail is true with Goofy. Also, (and I did not realize this) apparently Goofy's trait makes dice explode on 80 or more (Made in heaven noted that they are working on rewording the traits). Some quick math on that.

Technor is 26+18+10(xp)=54, crit failure is 40, so 1% failure, success is 80 so we succeed on a 26 or more, or 75% chance, crit success is 160, so we succeed only on a 100 (near-guaranteed after that)

Goofy is 27+18+10= 55, crit failure is 60, so 5% failure, success is 80 so we succeed on a 25 or more, or 76% chance, crit success is 160, but we duplicate on a 80. Rolling an 80 means we'd need 25 (dropping by one for every bit above 80), so about a 85% chance if we make 80, or 1/5*85%=17%

Increases odds of crit fail by 4%, Increases odds of Success by 1%, Increases odds of crit success by 16%

I wrote an omake, because a scenario powerfully compelled me, but like, I do not want to deceive anyone. Regardless of what wins, I hope the omake brought people some happiness.

Yeah. WIth the newly known mechanics of Goofy's trait, that's the better move. I assumed his trait meant that the DC of a crit sucess dropped by 20, which would mean we'd have a good chance (5->25%) to crit the action by dropping the DC of the action by ten. Instead, it means he gets an exploding die on an 80+, which is an entirely different ballgame.


With the actual trait, our odds look like this:
Add 10 to roll=18+27+10=55, DC 60/160 crit. Exploding Reroll on 80 means we have a 20% chance to explode with an average bonus of 90, for 90+55=145. We then need a 15 or higher (85% chance) to get the crit, for a total of .2*.85=17% Critical Success Chance, to go with a 5% critfail.

With -10 to DC, we roll 18+27=45, DC 55/140 crit. Exploding Reroll on 80 means we have a 20% chance to explode with an average bonus of 90, for 90+45=135. We then need a 5 or higher (95% chance) to get the crit, for a total of .2*.95=19% Critical Success Chance, to go with 10% critfail.


Essentially, boosting our roll with XP instead of droping DC gives -2% CritSuccess, -5% Critfail, which is a bargain IMO.

The problem is that I'm pretty sure Goofy's critical failures are ALSO worse.

So on Decode Odd Transmissions, there is a 6-10% chance that we'd succeed on a critical success... but about a 60% chance (or 36%-ish with personal attention) that we'd roll a total of 100 or less and get a Goofy-Enhanced Critical Failure.

Which I suspect would involve something like accidentally transmitting to Princess von Flügel that her current chassis makes her look stupid, and then getting abruptly invaded by a robotic legion.

I think that sacrificing the extra +10 on the die roll for AI research, which does have a nontrivial chance of failure even with Dr. von Drake on the job, isn't worth it. We had no plan to make use of Norm's Martial services this turn (and it'd be too late anyway). We can live without his services next turn, and it'd only be for the one turn that we'd have him offline. It's not worth blowing a National Action just to get him back one turn sooner, especially if doing so means reduced chance of passing the AI action(s) that let us introspect on him better.

The resistance isn't necessarily just about potential leads on Phineas and Ferb; they are also a general nuisance and minor discreditor that could potentially escalate if they ever, say, manage to suborn people working for us or if some random do-gooding cape decides to join them.

Oh, absolutely. And even with personal attention+XP, we're still looking at 14.4% Success rate (or, realistically, 18% "Success or Bare Failure that drops DC by half, which is basically a win on that high of a DC"), which means it would take 4 rolls to succeed on average, and potentially keep failing indefinitely, even if we discount the 25% critfail chance of the best case scenario. I just find it amusing.

Very nice! I've been waiting for someone to do an omake from Temujin's perspective and I think you've nailed it. This was a very interesting take on an omake. It doesn't even matter that the settings don't cross over, this was just for fun and I enjoyed myself while reading through it. The idea of a quest from Chernabog's perspective with all sorts of famous villains as your hero units is an intriguing one, and while I don't think it could pan out in a crossover setting I'm definitely interested in seeing a results turn. That was an amazing omake. I really enjoyed the work you've done between Technor and Doof, trying to get to the bottom of his issues and showing that he wasn't the only one in the family to suffer from his awful parents. Lowering the DC might be a better call here as it increases the chance of a critical in addition to making it more likely to succeed. Boosting the roll is generally to lower the risk of critical failure, but right now, there's only a 1% chance of that.
