The Price of Not Being Specific
The Price of Not Being Specific

It was a normal, smoggy day in Doofania. The birds were singing as they flew in the clean airspace, people were going to and from their places of business, the dragon outside your office was peering in curiously, Vanessa had just sent you a text about the next game night... Heinz stopped, blinked, and backed up his thought process. Turning, he looked back out the window. Yup. Still a dragon there, eyeing him with curiosity (and thankfully not hunger). Tapping out a quick message to Russ and Janna to meet him at the labs, he briskly walked into the elevator. Behind him, he heard a massive yawn and the shifting of diamond-hard scales.

Emerging into the lab space found Janna lounging against a spectrometer looking slightly confused and very bored, Russ with a small vein beginning to throb on his forehead, and Jumba watching a holo-screen showing the dragon that was currently coiled around Heinz's office suite. With the new viewpoint, Heinz absently noted that while the head was antlered and whiskered, the body seemed to be a slim Western dragon. "Jumba, why is there a dragon roosting on our headquarters?"

Jumba scribbled down something on an electronic pad before looking over at Heinz. "Ah! Mine fellow evil genius! Was working on Dinosaurs as requested, found sample amongst collected bone slivers; had markers for hexopodal skeletal system in DNA. Decided to see what was. So, why is roosting on headquarters now you ask? Because was too large to fit into standard observational room. I was under impression that reptile DNA from earth did not get so massive. Was very interesting time in lab when clone began flash-maturation process."

fwoosh There was tinny "squawk" of surprise that died away under the roar of the flames... and then a crunch as the dragon flash-barbecued a passing avian and then snapped it up. "Hmm, it seems she enjoys roast pigeon. Question is whether it is standard behavior, or if she is already entering brooding phase due to already being physically mature."

Russ spoke up from where he was massaging his temples, speaking in a strained voice "Jumba, for the love of god, please tell me that thing is sterile."

Jumba blinked both sets of eyes at the agent, face twisting into an offended frown. "Is sterile, yes. All of my creations are very clean after emerging from maturation process." He paused, scratching his chin absently before shrugging. "I am needing to give them gut cultures, of course, but that is not counting."

Janna's bored expression cracked into a grin as she watched the holoscreen. Beside her Felldrake was looking most intrigued.

... alright, gonna stop for now, as Disney owns a lot of stuff... and I may end up spending quite a while making a list of every possible character that would be applicable to Gridlock that I want as possible cards.

... actually, @weredrago2 and @Made in Heaven... if I happened to have some free time... would I actually be allowed to make a list like that? I'd break up into chunks, of course, so it wasn't just a massive wall of text.

I thought the plan was to make Hawk a turncoat to profit off his intel into Cloverleaf with Doom none the wiser?
That would work too. But replacing Hawk with a robot duplicate might well somehow help us accomplish our goals too. We could even make the switch with Hawk's collaboration- bribe him to set up in a different part of the country entirely and leave the duplicate behind.

At least some of which are ABA aka "Pavlovian indoctrination tailored towards people", unfortunately...

So I am a bit torn on that topic.
Those aren't real educational techniques. Those are torture techniques that pretend to be educational techniques. I'm talking about real educational techniques.

I wonder if Toffee's evil plan here wasn't anything specific, but just getting his influence into our borders? We know that Doof is unique in having declared himself a sovereign state - all the other Kings just exert massive influence over their domains.

Maybe Toffee was just trying to extend his influence into Doofania via his corn companies, and we were going to fall for it by not recognising that was his actual goal?

If so, we could feasibly counteroffer to buy his corn and corn-based products and sell it at slightly higher prices through our own companies, denying him the institutions through which to exert local influence. Though if that was his goal, he'd probably decline...

A line stood out to me in the what-if. (It's part of the actually-happened section)

Seth Supplies would handle the corn distribution, delivery, and stocking,

What a way to get infiltrators in, or kidnap people out.

I don't trust the product not to be tainted in some way. Toffee isn't above committing what would be considered war crimes if it would get him an edge.

One thing to look out for though is now Toffee has a way to hit our reputation something fierce. We made a good deal of our good name in solving the food issue in our states. That bought us a lot of goodwill with the people. But now we have rejected a deal that would bring said people not only a lot more food, but higher quality food. He puts that out there and it would be trivial to twist our Good Samaritan image into one of a despot rejecting a deal that only has benifits to the people under our care to keep them reliant on us.

Considering Doon has also successfully hit our reputation and is still gunning for us enough to do so again we should probably do some actions to boost public approval next turn. It is a lot easier being a dictator when the people actualy like you.

With the tech we snagged, we should be able to easily implement growing exotic foods without any issues. Corn? A simple matter. But we can grow pineapples.

seems a bit unlikely as he doesn't gain much by accusing us of anything and theres no proof of said meeting. That and we can say we have plans already for food which is even true. Even if it will take a while.

I personally think we have more pressing concerns. Our populace mostly likes us because everything is the same, except with Normbots instead of police officers.

And they have to follow our social media.

He just needs to publicly announce the offer. When we do not accept it it is as good as rejecting it. And yes we have the options to grow more foods. Those would be part of the approval raising actions I said we should do.

as for why he would do so there are several reasons. The first is spite. Not the most likely but always possible. But themain one is we have shown we will not cooperate with him. After all if we would not take such a seemingly good deal we obviously have information about him or are to paranoid to work with. As we will not work with him we are a rival and obstical. One he has a weapon he can use against us via PR. Why would he not use said weapon?

in fairness he'd have to spend ap to use pr against us. Not sure if he thinks we are barely worth approaching much less ridiculing to spend time making an enemy of us.

Possible more, since Lizzie added techs and Stanley's tech was around 100. This means, even if we do have her trait active, there is a 1/9 chance of her getting flubber power. And the other flubber offers a slight decrease at most.

In total that means her chances of accidentally hitting on Flubber Power is 1/54, or less than 2%. It is ridiculous to limit our research on a 2% chance that while it might suck, leaves us with recoverable options.
Clockwork is entirely right. Furthermore, it should be pointed out that while Flubber Power WOULD give us a public relations malus, it would also give us UNLIMITED (electrical) POWAAAAH and catapult TECHNOR, THE MECHANICAL MAN up to a Diplomacy 32 juggernaut. :p

It's not all bad news.

Getting the AI tech let's us upgrade one of our primary combat resources. Let's us end Norm's obsession to get a good martial hero. Let's CJ grow enough to likely become a hero, and given her origin, likely an Admin focused one we badly need. Losing all this for a less than 2% chance is ridiculous.
I agree with this too.

Can we put Technor on the PR campaign?

"I NEED MORE POWER! AND SO DO YOU!"
If we had Flubber power, TECHNOR would immediately lose his 'Hungry for Power' malus and become our best possible spokesrobot for Flubber power.

It's a self-solving problem! :p

Also, your slogan reminds me of another show that is, I believe, a Disney property these days...

...

"I NEED MORE ALLOWANCE! YODEL-AY-EE-OO!" :D

I mean, if we hold off on putting Ludivine on a Learning action this turn we can probably have her help Technor psychoanalyze Stanley. I mean, she's also a psychiatrist, so one of her Personal Actions may let her do the same thing as Technor.
I think that would be a terrible waste of a valuable Learning 40 character.

We hired her for a reason; it would be a tragedy to fail to use her because of a single digit percent chance she'll accidentally research a tech with a worrisome side effect.

He just needs to publicly announce the offer.

To who?

If there was any proof of his meeting this could work, but there wasn't, and in fact there was evidence that it didn't happen. He'd have to basically do a smear campaign that makes shit up to try to slander us, but every other major player will start looking his way if he does - Doom slandering us is a part of business because we're acting in a way that flaunts his campaign, but by all accounts we've only ever been in the same room as Toffee once and it was only very briefly, and nothing we've done seems to be against his goals.

If Shere Khan tomorrow started slandering Xanatos, we'd all wonder what the fuck caused it and try to hone in on that. It's the same principal.

So what does everyone want to do after we deal with the resistance? I'm thinking we should either upgrade the normbots or equip our pmc with energy weapons. Also is there a way to get two martial actions or are we just stuck with the one per turn?
