Probably not because of her responsibility to her city and other people.
But in general yeah. 50/50?
Probably not because of her responsibility to her city and other people.
Not mentioning de-Witching?Alright. I'm going to try for a compromise vote, where we keep talking. @Onmur , @Muramasa , @Kaizuki , @AuraTwilight , @Godwinson , @Vebyast , please, please critique this.
Sabrina has so far managed to avoid killing anyone, or permanently gemming anyone. That's a victory. Resorting to permanently removing a magical girl from the world represents a failure - not a total failure, not an insurmountable failure... to some extent, in the long run, maybe not even an avoidable failure.
But if we can avoid that failure for just a little longer, if we can keep Rionna talking, if we keep trying to let her redeem herself... that would be a good thing. But.
But, we can't let her continue on as she has.
[ ] Pray to Madokami. "Everything can be fixed." She redeems everyone, in the end. There's still some good in Riona, surely. There must be, right?
[ ] Quietly: No, she doesn't "have to".
-[ ] You want to help her - you want to help everyone. Offer her cleansing, right now.
--[ ] Deathly serious: You understand that she can't trust you, not right away. But she can ask anyone, she can ask fucking Kyubey, she can test your powers however she wants. They're the real thing. And you're going to change the world with them.
[ ] When you first heard about her from Nadia, you were really happy. An expert on souls could make a huge difference in making your dreams a reality.
-[ ] So please, please, hear us out. You'll offer a lot, so she doesn't have to keep trapping new souls, so releasing old souls is possible for her in time. Up to and including helping her hold Edinburgh, without relying on shades.
[ ] She went out of her way to present herself as a villain who enjoys enslaving others. But nobody's the villain of their own story.
-[ ] She knows that at least some of what she's doing is wrong, she knows that you're offering to give her what she wants - freedom from grief. So please, please, don't keep being cruel - for what reason?
-[ ] And if you're being stupid, if you're being naive, if there's a situation we don't know about - then tell us why! You want to give her what she wants, and all you want in return is that she does something to make the world kinder.
--[ ] Not everything, not right away, not when she can't trust you yet, but just... something, anything!
I think I channeled The Doctor there for a bit.
I'm not, I'm saying it's a vote that reflects what everyone seems to want. Don't be an asshole in response to my being reconcilitory.
"I like this, come on everyone, agree with it!"
You don't get to decide what "everyone seems to want".
If we like it we'll vote for it, else we'll continue to debate and try to improve it. That's how the voting system works.
Who are Ayase and Luca again? And what do they have to with the current discussion?
She's a Soul Manipulator, not a Seer.Riona likely already knows we're investigating that, based on being interested in her power, the existence of our Clear Seed, and our general personality if it's indeed not an act.
The collect Soul Gems because they're shiny. They're also not that strong. It's been a while since I've caught up, but given what I've been reading here, I gather that we've taken Ayase and Luca off of the "Kill or Gem on sight" notice.
I eagerly look forward to seeing how we plan to handle negotiating with them when they arrive.
You may also know them as 'The Soujus': They're two magical girls from Kazumi Magica who did the fusion dance. Their hobbies include bodykilling magical girls to take their Soul Gems as trophies, and they're expected in Mitakihara within the next couple days. Given that they're "You steal people's souls" and not "You steal people's souls and make them your slaves", I'm wondering how we plan to go about turning them into our allies, since gemming them would be a failure state.Who are Ayase and Luca again? Rionna is "I protect people by eliminating terrible people the only way I can, then use their souls to do it better"Given that they're "You steal people's souls" and not "You steal people's souls and make them your slaves", I'm wondering how we plan to go about turning them into our allies, since gemming them would be a failure state.

The Soujus are "we like the shiny rocks"
Not even remotely comparable
"I like this, come on everyone, agree with it!"

[x] ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LET RIONNA NOTICE THIS, KEEP YOUR EMOTIONAL REACTION TO THIS MUTED:
-[x] Calmly message Mami with grief, requesting that she not react and contact Homura for timestop, please.
--[x] You need to discuss what Rionna has said with Mami, Homura, and Sayaka to decide what to do. You won't commit to any action without that discussion first.
---[x] Keep calm, do not commit to hostile action against Rionna in your mind.
YOU DID THAT
You and Aura refused to consider any possibility that this is anything other than morally reprehensible and must be stopped immediately no matter the cost
You do not get to rub that in my face and say "deal with it"
Smearing it into the face that someone did something with bold, capital letters to emphasize a point, or simply to call them a hypocrite like this is incredibly unmindful, as far as debate tactics go, but it's not a very large breach of the rules. I will, however still apply a staff notice and a three-day threadban to both of you. While only one of you used the aforementioned bold, capital letters, the sanction applies equally to both of you.@kinigget thank you. That's what your all doing!
Jeeze.
What gigantic fucking hypocrits you all are. Wow.
Especially given the amount of worm fanfiction we churn out.
Now see, Aran, Aura? This is an actual argument. Not just shaky and repetitive accusations.
I still disagree on points, largely in that I don't feel Kai has really properly considered the little inconsistencies that suggest Riona may have motives she has not brought up yet or that she might be deliberately baiting us for one reason or another. However, it is a good argument, and has done more to sway me to actually consider a more hostile response than any of you two's pointless screaming has done for pages now.
Take note.
Yea okay, I'll wait for the explanation of how Riona plans to "finish a fight" with Sabrina that isn't ripping out our goddamn soul sicne that's apparently all she can do.
That they cannot back out without literally dying, are not given proper information to give informed consent, have their bodies modified without their knowing, and have their souls turned into eternal biofuel they can never escape from?
It's fucking slavery.
She didn't actually do #1, and if she wants our free cleansing maybe don't be a fucking antagonistic dick.
Expressing frustration with another person, is not against the rules of Sufficient Velocity; however, there are matters to be thought of, such as tone and tenor, as well as the appropriateness of such to a situation. In this situation, it can be said that choosing a heated thread such as this to go for rhetoric such as "don't be a fucking antagonistic dick" is not conducive to the mindfulness of the thread. However, I applaud your attempt to turn a new page, and make some form of peace, unsuccessful as it was. I will apply a staff notice under Rule 3 and a three-day threadban.Oh my god, fuck off, I wasn't demanding anything, I was simply olive branching for people to stop fucking bickering at the sight of a vote I think everyone would appreciate, it was a call to turn to a clean fucking page of talking.
Jesus tapdancing Christ.
Normally, these kinds of jokes are fine. We assume some degree of light situational ribbing is appropriate, yeah? But I think in situations like this, it's best to refrain from these kinds of jokes, if only to stay on the safe side. I'm not giving you any staff notice or points, I'm just warning you for the future. But how much of it is Irish dickery and how much is evil dickery?
While I am always up for a good sarcastic ribbing, I think it's best we refrain from this kind of rhetoric in heated situations like this, yeah? Both to not come off as a provocateur, and to prevent disrupting the thread further. I'm going to apply a staff notice under Rule 4, and a three-day threadban here too.But wait, there is more.
She also didn't change her complete world view, didn't throw away her entire sense of self, didn't give up all the power she built her life around, didn't agree to become defenseless and live under our benevolent protection... didn't agree to do any of those things the moment we criticized her about the bad things she said.
How dare she.
Aka why moderation is difficult.I think that it's possible that she's speaking in bad faith, or she could just suck at talking. It's hard to tell.
We gave her a chance, and she failed. Can we gem or kill her now?
The sentiment is noted - no one likes slavers, but simply declaring that it is so is needlessly inflammatory, and instantly calling for her death on that basis alone isn't acceptable. It sets a hard, binary postion that instantly polarizes the thread. And besides - morality aside, Sabrina is someone who doesn't like violence against other people, even if it's necessary. She's never going to jump into it as a first resort.
Again - simply declaring that it is so is not helpful.
Perhaps true, but engage with the thread. If there's a point to make, then make it in a substantial manner.
And here's the other side. Pretending you're above it all and implicitly judging the thread is, again, needlessly inflammatory and ironically contributes to the perception that the thread is descending harder into a flamewar than it might actually be.
Considering that Sereg was threadbanned, this isn't a very productive thing to say.
And neither is this. There aren't even strong sides in this argument - broad agreements in decisions, but attempting to cast one group as a single side isn't helpful behaviour. It leads to the differences in opinion growing into larger rifts.
I don't think I need to say anything about this. It isn't particularly productive to the argument.
No wait, that's fucking stupid, especially when half of this argument is about people trying to act in character for Sabrina and what her fucking morality should be.
The swearing only serves to drive up other people's anger. It's not particularly helpful.
Bottom line is this:
I'm not comfortable turning Sabrina into a Knight Templar
Edit:
ENOUGH
YOU DID THAT
You and Aura refused to consider any possibility that this is anything other than morally reprehensible and must be stopped immediately no matter the cost
You do not get to rub that in my face and say "deal with it"
Well, too fucking bad, though. it's in Sabrina's character forever now that she considers this to be slavery. What we do here now reflects how Sabrina responds to slavery, morally.
And it wasn't just the two of us, thanks. It was the majority of the thread, which is why it's Sabrina's thoughts.
So, the thread-leakage of PMAS is how I help to set the tone for Sabrina. Yes, using it to justify an action, or not, isn't productive. It is in fact circular logic. However, it is a mechanic for characterizing Sabrina. It means that yes, Sabrina thinks of what Rionna does as slavery, as driven by a large portion of the userbase. She's allowed to do that, and yes, she's also allowed to change her mind that perhaps it isn't.PANIC

"HA! I WAS RIGHT! WE SHOULD PANIC! PAAAAAANIIIIIIIIIIC!"
No. You're loud, doesn't make you right, don't pretend like it does.
It doesn't make you wrong, but that's what we're trying to discuss isn't it? "So fuck off with this" yourself.
No, it was pretty much you two, plus a few off the cuff reactions before everyone besides you calmed down and actually started trying to be objective instead of knee jerking hard enough to bloody their own goddamn noses. You are The only ones who are still so aggravatingly and uselessly hardheaded about this whole thing, and you are threatening to turn this into either a PR disaster (if we're lucky) or a goddamn bad end to the quest (if we're not).
Neither of you are even remotely reliable or reasonable in this case. You're doing nothing but casting black and white morality over a setting that may as well be the poster child for 'morally grey'.
Get off your high horses, walk away, and think for a little while until you can come back and actually provide useful input rather than repeating the same point ad nauseam.
Lecturing other people only serves to make them angrier. Lecturing other people to cool off is even more so. Suggesting that someone calm down can be done in less inflammatory ways.I think it's more along the lines of 'would you kindly stop trying to break our protagonist's moral compass over your goddamn knee because you have your panties in a bunch over this?"
Sometimes people won't agree with you. Please don't act like you're better than everyone else.
Hey, fuck off with this. I made better arguments earlier and people kept nitpicking me and attacking my fucking character. Thanks.
"I like this, come on everyone, agree with it!"
You don't get to decide what "everyone seems to want".
If we like it we'll vote for it, else we'll continue to debate and try to improve it. That's how the voting system works.
LendvaV, it's hard not to characterize your posts as attempts to antagonize and pick a fight. Don't do that. Aura, the anger and swearing in your posts isn't helpful.Oh my god, fuck off, I wasn't demanding anything, I was simply olive branching for people to stop fucking bickering at the sight of a vote I think everyone would appreciate, it was a call to turn to a clean fucking page of talking.
Jesus tapdancing Christ.
Perhaps that's true. On the other hand, implying that everyone is irrationally riled up isn't contributing to the discussion - if you don't have anything more to say than a 'isn't it funny' post, then don't.It's weird what things will trip audience reactions and what won't. I feel like usually if someone with Riona's power showed up in a quest or other fiction everybody would shrug their shoulders and go, "Cool power." Maybe just choose to take her at her word about the shades being insensate if it troubled them.
Instead in this case a few people call 'slavery' and then it becomes a huge thing and everybody feels obligated to care.
This isn't constructive. Maybe you didn't notice, but Rionna is absolutely a morally grey character, and Sabrina does behave morally. Perhaps erratically, but she always strives towards being a good person. This is why i wanted to leave out any kind of moral judgement
It's the opposite of helpful
The frustration is understandable. The condescension is not.I don't find this sort of thing convincing, and I don't think anyone else changed their mind after reading it the last two times you posted it. Try some consequentialism, it's very popular around these parts.
Mmmthe thread appears to be a bit on fire at the moment. Oh well. Cya all next update. Onmur you really need to put some meat on your vote.
I'm skeptical of the "she enjoys enslaving people" thing
It's better. its still a refusall on shaky logical grounds.
I am honestly shocked you guys are sobeh fuck it what's the point.
@kinigget thank you. That's what your all doing!
Jeeze.
What gigantic fucking hypocrits you all are. Wow.
Especially given the amount of worm fanfiction we churn out.
I like the madokami says arguments.
Madoka would be proud to know the religion she created is being used to justify murder.
This entire series of posts is unacceptable. Declaring that you're disappointed, and then flouncing off and returning to make snide judgements is the opposite of helpful. And as to that last one - if you know you're just whining, then you know it's contributing nothing. Don't do it.Sorry. I'm less than pleased at the moment. For a lot of reasons.
So. I'm just kind of low grade whining.
Racial stereotyping. Don't do it. Second, this overlaps somewhat with my first point - engage with the thread. I appreciate the attempt at humour, but it comes off as more of an attempt to be 'above it all'. It doesn't help. But how much of it is Irish dickery and how much is evil dickery?
But wait, there is more.
She also didn't change her complete world view, didn't throw away her entire sense of self, didn't give up all the power she built her life around, didn't agree to become defenseless and live under our benevolent protection... didn't agree to do any of those things the moment we criticized her about the bad things she said.
How dare she.
This only comes off as snide judgement. It could be an attempt at defusing the tension with humour, yes, but in this case, it's not helpful. If I condemned people for saying bad things, I would have to go on a murder spree.
And this really isn't constructive. Changing a vote out of spite -or even declaring your intention to- will only inflame the thread more. Also, fair warning @Godwinson , @AuraTwilight , if I see many more calls to straight up kill Rionna like Vebyast and Aranfan have done, I'm probably going to switch to Roomba's vote. So, uh, one of you might want to copy me or write something up.
