I should really shut my trap and go read the expanded material, then. 😅

I'm gonna recommend that you not bother reading Kazumi Magica. The quality is... very questionable, and Firn has changed a bunch of stuff around so a lot of the weirder shit isn't even in play. Just look up a summary somewhere to get the gist of it.

Spend that time reading Homura Tamura instead, it's $100% canon to this story, for sure.

I find this one somewhat interesting because I'm fairly sure Sabrina called witch-Kirika "Margot" somewhere earlier, but I'm... fairly sure didn't scan their gems to get Latria/Sotria?

Latria and Sotria are their canon Witch names. Margot was Kirika's theorized Witch name due to some runes in her barrier and was the best knowledge of canon available at the time. Philotes and Pythia are their witch names we got when we scanned them, although I believe that their canon names only got confirmed in Magia Record, which is not canon for the quest.

RIP getting to meet the Mightiest Magical Girl...
I was assuming that meant more "no Kamihama-originals" (especially with regards to Mary Poppins and the JoJo) more so than the Witch name confirmations. (Well, that, and Nagisa stuff.)

Also, Homura Tamura?

Homura Tamura is basically a silly slice-of-life side story to the main Madoka series.

Emphasis on the word silly. Taken from the summary of Volume 3:
Tamura--er, Homura--returns once again to the time flows on her quest to save Madoka. From ancient Arthurian legends to high-tech space battles, from Kyubey Jail prison breaks to coming face-to-face with a practical-joker version of HERSELF, Tamura--er, Homura--will stop at nothing to save her friend! This universe-hopping adventure shows the sillier side of the hit series Puella Magi Madoka Magica!

Also, "Tamura" means "gathering", so the title can be translated as "Gathering of Magical Girl Homura", "Homura's Gathering of Magical Girls", "Magical Girl Homura's Gathering(s)", etc.

I didn't know we were dating Sayaka. :V
To be fair, Tsuruno herself can be compared to Sayaka (with a side of Mami), up to and including a certain parallel that calls forth Sayaka's Doppel...
Definitely a good thing that we aren't loosing Rumors on everything.

(That being said: Holy Mami feels like... perhaps a cautionary tale.)

That is a lot of content, a lot of it not especially relevant. You can probably safely skip Suzune and the one about Joan of Arc. The gacha game isn't canon to PMAS, and you'll be better off just taking people's words for what happens in Kazumi than if you try to read it.

I dunno about "taking our word for it." Our memories can be pretty shot sometimes. :p

"I've got a place in all this," she says. "I'm part of this, and that's... important. There's a place for me to make this right."

... There was, there was one other thing on that list, now that I think about it... I wanted to use this as a chance to stamp on (that is, reduce) Sayaka's... Maybe not feeling but certainly *acting* indebted to people.

Hm.

[X] She's damn right.
-[X] On that note, there is unlimited funding for this project up to physical limitations on cash inflow. It's irrelevant for now, but if she hasn't figured out how to pay herself out of those funds by the end of the year you'll literally throw $100k at her.
-[X] Also, Oriko and Kirika know -- knew, even. Precog did it. And, under constraints, are helping. Kyubey is everyone's enemy.

That's everything I've got.

Also, Homura Tamura?

Homura Tamura, as mentioned, is a gag manga about various weird stuff that a Homura (part of the conceit is that there's multiple Homura's all looping, and Tamura isn't the "canon" one) encounters while trying to save Madoka.

When it comes to the side materials most relevant to PMAS:

Puella Magi Oriko Magica is obviously directly relevant, as are it's sub-spinoffs Noisy Citrine and Sadness Prayer.

The Different Story has a ton of info on Mami and Kyouko's early partnership.

• Firn has been very stubborn on not letting it slip whether PMAS is set post Rebellion or not, but either way that movie has a ton of metaphysics info about magic, Madokami and the Incubators.

• Firn has explicitly said that a bunch of the metaphysics and characterization in Homura's Revenge are in play, although it didn't actually happen to our Homura.

• The Madoka Magica PSP game has a lot of relevant info, with particular interest being placed on the "Golden Ending" where Homura actually manages to beat Walpurgis without Madoka contracting.

Puella Magi Kazumi Magica is very poorly written, and Firn has replaced parts of it wholesale, but I suppose that there might be some useful info for Asunaro interactions there.

Puella Magi Tart Magica and Puella Magi Suzune Magica are almost entirely irrelevant to PMAS - Tart because it's set in France hundreds of years ago, and Suzune because the primary character we've interacted with from that series is the doomed mother figure who died in the backstory.

Wraith Arc provides a ton of background info on Rebellion that helps clear up some of the mindfuck and expands on Homura's mental state in a post-Madokami world. It's... probably mostly canon in terms of mechanics and characterization, since it came out while Firn was still mostly trying to follow the official PMMM metaphysics. No guarantees though.

Magia Record is the hot new thing in PMMM, but it's very hit-or-miss when it comes to PMAS canonicity. First off, the series is basically "canonically noncanon", since it explicitly details a "unique timeline" that is demonstrably different from the "main timeline" of the previous PMMM series (Original tv show + Rebellion). More pertinently, the mobile game has some really questionable characterization in some of the side missions that Firn doesn't like (particularly referring to Madokami and Nagisa), and Firn has decided not to read the five billion pages of text he'd need to to maintain lore consistency from it. So canonicity for Magia Record should basically be treated as "if one of the lore geeks brings up something from it that doesn't clash with Firn's plans, it's probably canon in PMAS".

• And last and most frustrating, Magica Online is a webgame that contains a ton of pertinent lore on the nature of magic and souls and that fleshes out a lot of the personality of the canon cast, and has been used in a ton of speculation in PMAS. It also shut down forever in 2015, and information from it has been maddeningly hard to find since, to the point that this thread is probably one of the better places to look.

I will point out that I managed to snag the single most important thing from Magica Online, namely unambiguous evidence that memory subconsciously carries between timelines regardless of the Homura/Madoka timeloop stuff.

This is entirely correct! Thanks for providing the summary. Minor note on the Wraith Arc thing - it's mostly canon in terms of characterization, thought the mechanics are a little iffy.

And on a lighter note:

Can you threadmark this post, @Firnagzen ? Put it in the Information subsection, or something?

Changes in bold.

[x] "Attagirl, don't hesitate to contact me or Homura if you have any questions. Securely if possible of course."
-[x] Just a headsup that the Meiji group from Tokyo likely witness a Witchout, possibly one of their friends, and Toshimichi possibly mind wiped the Witchbomb to prevent Grief Spirals
-[x] One last hug, thank her again, you really can't say enough how much of a relief this is to have off your chest, even only partially.
[x] Back to Mami!
-[x] Invite Sayaka along but don't put any pressure on, she just had a bombshell dropped and needs to think, you'll understand if she'd rather take some time for herself.
- [x] Dinner!

Having reread, I'm tempted to agree with Sayaka here in a way that invokes her magic, a la our talks to Oriko about the meaning of Kirika's antimagic, but alas that's probably too cutesy for the space allotted. So instead I'm just going to subtly invoke it, in being a friend (gem) who helped her find her place in the world (Helped fulfill her wish.)

[X] Warmly: You're glad you could help her find that place.
-[X] Sayaka taking time to think things over is wise. Pacing herself in the face of a long and difficult project is a good thing. Even if you often forget that yourself.
-[X] If things get hard to deal with, even if the reasons feel dumb or insignificant, we'll happily lend hand or a a shoulder. ~~Or even a cotton ball, if that's what she needs.~~
\\Note to self: Rewatch Rebellion and fit a subtle joke in here. Probably a lot subtler than that one.

[] Invite Sayaka, but no pressure if she wants to mull things over in peace. (You were expecting a cute dinner guest? Too bad; It's Sayaka-chan!)
[] Prospect; You talked and... would Mami be up for talking with Kyouko? In person? Tonight?
\\ needs expansion, should probably be pretty early. May have to start with "You may have gotten ahead of yourself again and gone to fast..."
[] Other conversation.
[] Dinner

A lot of stuff not ticked in since it needs proper construction still, but I'm reasonably happy with the first half.
