On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

It wouldn't be 50 actions since odd places needs to roll above 50 to get a research project out of it and a few are already done. It's 10 + 20ish and now we get soul of the earth and student of the odd to shave off a bunch. Plus stuff like the potatoes being mostly done for us. 30ish average is about what went into rune metal for Mind for Metal.

We got Mind for Metal after doing 2 pts of Rune metal that were both 6 actions. So no thats nearly three times that.

I think you just want to make a Gazul item and you're trying to talk yourself into it. If you have to stretch as far as you did to get fate manipulating effects then I think thats a sign that this just isn't going to combo. And besides even if it did, I'm not sure it really fills the combo you originally wanted.

Well, yes. That whole post was an exercise in devil's advocating myself to see if I could find a way to justify it to myself.

That said, you may be right that a combo trial may be what's needed.

Then start from the premise of lets making something rad from the Rune of Gazul and not 'I have this combo that I think justifies this theme, can I add Gazul without fucking it up too bad.'
This whole thing was backwards.
If we wanted a Gazul focused combo I'd go Gazul, Sanctuary, Stone (Nobody tell me we don't have MGazul, I know and don't care, Hearthward shows that we care too much about them) for a much more reference to Gazul king of the Underearth which is a sanctuary for dead dwarves.

Also I think combo trials got removed because they were so expensive we could never see ourselves using them rather than just making an item set with them since they were a 1:1 cost anyway so we could make 5 items testing 5 combos for the price of a single one and no items if we did Combo test. I think I proposed that we could test multiple combos for a single action but soulcake didn't bite.

If Yorri dies before Snorri does, we should build a Yorri-shaped Gronti in honor of him.

That sounds like a good way to honor his memory, but I feel obligated to point out that Gronti-Yorri will likely inherit the habit of throwing troll tongue at us. This assumption comes from the fact that if Yorri could troll us from the dead he would do so with gusto.
The pun wasn't intentional.

What about a new talisman, with the ancestor banner we have good anti magic, what should a new one be used for?

I wonder what a chisel that could be used with our new hammer would count as?

A second weapon?

Whatever it is I wonder if that could bear the Master Rune of Purification while the hammer (or future upgrades with a compressed Master Rune version) has Makerstrike.

That would be a long way off though, as we'd probably want it to be made of the next grade of Runemetal to survive being struck with our hammer and getting the most from MRoP.

Is it thought. Or did that not happen yet?

I'm interested in a T5 rune metal with purification axe as well. Not sure if purification would even work on a weapon even after doing the research but if it does I think we could get some really exotic combos out of it.

Hello everyone, just a little announcement that may be of interest for some of you.

I'm just putting this temporary threadmark down for a few hours until I lock the vote to inform you that I've updated the Omake Policy.

Here is the relevant info for you:

Another way you could benefit from an omake is by adding to the retainer pool, wherein you could maybe make a story or description of potential recruits for the Retinue, and depending on the quality, canonicity and possibility of such a recruit existing I can add a proxy or a quest canon-compliant version of that recruit added to the potential recruit pool or even outright put them in the retinue! So let's say you made an omake about a Longbeard Miner who wanted to be part of Snorri's retinue, depending on the factors I listed earlier that omake could add either a nameless unit with the same skills and abilities of that omake, an approximation of that character being added to the general recruit pool, all the way to that actual character being stuck into the recruit pool or retinue outright.

Retainer:
For omakes based on retainers, the possible bonuses can go from a unit of the same class/ best approximation of that unit or character being added to the potential recruit pool all the way to that character being outright added to the retainers or the recruit pool. In the case where the Retinue is full, I may wait to add those characters, or if they can take the place of the nameless characters, I would switch them in. Having a character being put in wholesale would be incredibly rare, and more likely it'll be the unit type, skillset and general backstory similar to the character in the omake.

I reserve the right to refuse to give a bonus if I feel like people are inundating the thread with omakes to pad out the rolls or if they're trying to spam out a bunch or put in a bunch of characters into the recruit pool that doesn't fit with the quest and that I cant make fit. So please make omakes in good faith. :^)

Thanks for reading, I hope this helps improve thread engagement and gives a bit of flavour for the quest. :^)

EDIT: Also, just to make it clear if your omake isn't accepted or your retainers aren't canon-compliant and you want them to be, feel free to ask me or someone familiar with Warhammer lore and this quest for help.

Just an idea about Gazul's rune.
This is under the assumption that Purification works like I think it does, based on its name.
How about we research our Purification rune -
and then do Purification +Gazul +stone.
On a weapon, it will be something like: Purify souls into stone/Purify souls, not of stone(not Dawi).
On a banner, it will be: Keep souls of stone pure.
Edit:
I can't find a better source then Divided-loyalties but Gazul has something to do with fire right?
Because Purification runs really hot and it fits even more then.

[X] Plan Hearth and Hammer
-[X] [Simple] A Company Equipped: [Cost: 4 actions] Productivity Like no Other will proc. Gain retinue equipped to the highest practical standard, all future members will receive the same upon recruitment. As your recruits are all Dwarfs well into their third century of life they do not lack for equipment. With the Gromril Mine and the abundance of Runesmiths they are arguably better equipped than the average longbeard their age, but you can do better. As their patron, you have a responsibility to see them armed to the best that you can feasibly manage. A paltry cost considering these dwarfs have sworn themselves utterly to you by your own reckoning. Of course, as with most things, there was the element of prestige involved as well. As the armour and gear a patron could equip their retainers with was a reflection of their status as well as, more importantly to you, a means of keeping them alive. And with you being a Runelord, the oldest Runelord in the Far North even, that bar is set very high indeed, both by yourself and outsiders. 2 Apprentice Actions.
--[X] Optional Write in: Adding Hearthstones to their equipment, such as gloves so that they touch the injured with warm hands or other suitably thematic items.
-[X] [Difficult] Write in, Zharrgral Pt. 2: [Cost: 1 action]. Productivity Like No Other will proc. Apply optional structural materials here. The plan in your mind burns to be made. A hammer to sunder foes and craft wonders. Its head Adamant and blazing with runes, and its haft good Silver Wutroth reinforced with Adamant rings studded with sapphires and wrapped in Elder Shardwyrm hide for grip. 3 Actions. Wear Barak Azamar while forging it.
--[X] Theme: Combo, Makerstrike: [Master Rune of Conduction (Elder Magma Dragon's Blood), Rune of Smednir (any suitable upgrade materials), Rune of Thungni (any suitable upgrade materials)]
-[X] Render Aid: [Cost: 1 retainer action] Can be taken multiple times. Roll for usefulness, additional actions apply bonus to roll. Gain reputation and +2 bonus per action to Recruitment Dice. You formed these Hearthguard to combat all the ills that befall the dwarfen people. Send them out, render aid, earn goodwill and spread the word of your retainers and their stated mission beyond the borders of Kraka Drakk. 1 Retainer Action.
-[X] Hearthstones: [Cost: (4 -1) =3 actions] Student of the Odd and Soul of the Earth will proc. This deep orange gem glows with never-ending heat, never enough to boil water, but enough to sleep comfortably at night and keep a bowl of stew warm long after it's left the stove. You have a few theories about how useful the material will be, but you can't ever be sure. At least it's likely to be a profitable resource when you can get some actual production going though.
-- [X] Prod Yorri: [Cost: 1 prod] Gain 2 progress. Your master worked well with these at least somewhat. See what he knows.
-[X] ORDER: T3 Pegasus Heart
--[X] Kingly Expedite: 15 Favor.
-[X] Princely Hunting: [Cost: 10 Favour from Prince Gloin] Prince Gloin will go out and slay "A beast that is physically mighty like a mammoth or Stonetusk but more so". Gain mats. It would be ridiculous for you to ask your King to go gallivanting around the North to find something for you to make a Rune out of, but a Prince or Princess? Well, that's just you helping them build their legend through the slaying of monsters and aiding their elders. The rarer the monster the greater the reward, but it may take longer to find. Monsters slain by Gloin provide more material by virtue of being the entire beast rather than just ordering a singular organ.

We still get a Trollslayer worth of actions, and with Soul of the Earth we'd be more likely yo overflow past the point of usefulness anyways. This way we knock out Hearthstones entirely making the stones we put into our retinue's gear have an actual purpose, and making Valaya happy, while also possibly increasing our knowledge of those runes she gave us in a giftbasket.
