On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Refuse the Title of Heir: [Cost: Nothing] Gain ???. You will take up this hammer, you will use it, but you are your own Dwarf with your own goals. The burden of carrying Thungni's Will, of being His Heir, is one you choose not to carry. Someone or no one can claim it for all you care, but it will not be you.

Refusing becoming the heir is basically Snorri being true to himself, and something about that feels better than just trying to become/emulate Thungni.

Or in other words, let Snorri be cringe and free :V

If Thungni wants us to be his Heir, he can come out and say it. Vague poetry and magic hammers are terrible methods of succession.

Yeah with that clarification, it does seem like Snorri's going to lose a significant amount of agency and autonomy if we go the heir route. Having to act and talk like Thungni when he's spent his whole life thinking orthogonal to traditional patterns is not a good headspace to be in.

There is also possibly more important to the quest a reoccurring AP sink in him doing political stuff to fulfill that duty. For example does he go yo visit the other Rune universities to show he considers them legitimate? If he doesn't go does that mean he is neutral or disapproves?

Admittedly this might not be a major concern, I just bring it up to address one that seems quite possible.

Furthermore what does his example set for the future of Runecraft? His two recent major achievements are the Chainforger and Khazagar. This lends toward encouraging cooperative efforts as well as applications for runes in things like engineering. Does this mean that a runelord should share more of his knowledge that to just his students and heir? At the very least beardlings will debate this, albeit if Snorri goes much more conservative as an example of a misspent youth.

This seems very misleading.

Last time we got into an argument about traditional patterns of runesmith behaviour in front of Thungni he backed us up against the traditionalist.

[X] Claim the Title of Heir: [Cost: ???] Gain title: Heir of Thungni, ??? You claim a position that has remained in doubt since Durin died. By Thungni's word, the hammer you would now wield confirms that you are His Heir. Elevating your authority to that of the Ancestor's eldest children, living or dead. You would not, could not be a tyrant of course, but still.

Changing the subject to something else for a quick second but I'm thinking on what'd happen if we tried making Brynbar with the new hammer

Feels like it'd be cool to have the first thing we make with Thungni's hammer is something that evokes the myth of the glittering realm.

my position is changed.

I would like for Snorri to become Durin's heir by popular acclaim.

He should not proclaim himself heir, to minimize the risk of a schism, but at the same time, he should attempt to accomplish what durin was working on, so that his heirship becomes self evident.
And also make a rune to show the others the poems during the trial.

In the sense that he did not back the guy who broke the peace. Decorum and freedom were the key points there not whether he agreed with Snori on the merits. If he has said that the other guy may have shaved his head

Yep, this is the plan. We'll probably make Brynbar this coming turn or the one after at a waystone to stuff even more power into it.
