On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Nope. It means we can beat him over the head with our age and call him a beardling.
Three whole centuries older than him.
He's rather annoying at the moment but I want to nip that in the bud. I don't want him thrashing our legacy and achievements.
Two options are to crush him or to elevate him and gain his respect in the process.

The second option shows how our two methodologies are synergistic.... somehow.
Because he seems to be one of those ultra conservatives despite being a northern runelord.
Perhaps a co-op project?

TURN HIM TO THE DARK SIDE!
I don't think that would work, a) because he doesn't want to work with us and b) because i don't think snorri will ever see the need and we only get options for what snorri would actually do...

Snorri already knows Vragni is fixated on him. He could leave it alone... But he could also confront it instead of letting the weirdo undermine us.

We can already see that it's gone beyond simple competition or even an unhealthy dislike. This is a fixation and dwarves feed their fixations. Eventually it's going to turn into an obsession.

I want it stopped.

I don't think snorri sees him as a problem. More as a Runelords with different views on the whole tradition/radical issue. Which, you know, snorri knew would be a thing.

Vragni doesn't like snorris methods, and snorri has accepted that many won't like his methods...

There really is no settling the Vragni thing.

If we would manage to calm him down a little, he would just flip the table so hard it counts as a ballistic weapon when we announce our super school.

No use wasting the effort.

Edit: Wait… does this mean… school is canonically radical in this quest? Truly, we have achieved both the impossible, and the forbidden! Insert hellofellowkids.jpg

You don't resolve deep seated religious differences with an arts and crafts project.
Especially when the deep seated religious difference is related to approaches to arts and crafts.

You underestimate the power of glue and macaroni.

Edit: though yes in this case i don't think macaroni have been invented yet. So that's not a way to resolve the tensions...

I think you're misunderstanding the nature of it all, there's not going to be sabotage or anything. At most he'll argue with us over political moves, which is no different from what anyone else politically opposed to Snorri would do. He's out to prove he can do as well as/better than Snorri without radical methods, that's it.
He's already partially a Radical. And he knows it.
The sooner he accepts it the sooner he'll leave us alone.

We joined the Rune Admin because we want to bring some innovation back to our craft. Radical? Perhaps but discoveries came from experimentation and mistakes alike.

We're making the Library because tradition cannot handle the job for cataloguing knowledge alone. This is conservative no matter how radical it is in its newness.

He on the other hand structured his Apprentices like a Medieval factory.
Lots of Seniors apprentices teaching the new ones. Also radically different.

The only ones who are truly crazy conservative are from Karak Zorn and the Ancestors Thumped some sense into them.

No, in runesmith terms, we are a radical, we divert from the teachings of thungni. Vragni is a traditionalist who follows thungnis rules to the letter.
There is no bringing them together because their core ideals for runesmithing are so different.

Alright, once we unlock the pasta research tree we can discuss this again.

I think the Radical vs Conservative dichotomy is really unhelpful.
Radicalism and Conservatism goes along multiple axis, this is why some people are talking about Snorrism, because he's a distinct enough combination of those positions that he's his own little spot off of the typical gradiant.
As far as we know, the only significant issue that Vragni takes is that he is a Rule of Pride Literalist. And I think we'd have a better understanding of Vragnis problems with Snorri is we called him that rather than Conservative.

Vragni and Snorry are the kind of kids who would argue about how to make a portrait of Vallaya using said Maccheroni.
Vragni would go for a precise portrait, cheking the grains of said Maccheroni to see if they match Vallaya skin.
Snorry would probably go full on astract, tryng to capture the essence of Vallaya AND of the Maccheroni.

Master Yorri cartwheels in, somehow invents maccorni based paper and pensils, and uses those to draw an abstract picture of her while everyone else is busy staring in shock and confusion. :p

That... is a terrible explaination of the differences.
If we really have to insist on using the Maccaroni metaphor.

Vragni would demand that each piece of maccaroni is different enough from every other piece that it is a separate category of maccaroni.
Snorri would say that maccaroni is maccaroni because its the best possible that a maccaroni can be and its not worth the effort to find a different type of maccaroni (that will be worse than existing one) each time.

Except of course this is a stupid comparison and a better one would be discussing the end result portrait.
Vragni would never paint the portrait twice, however Snorri would lean heavily on existing forms and symbolism that is widely shared and used leading to most of his portraits looking quite similar except she's in a different dress each time.

I do not want to derail to mutch, but it's Maccheroni not macaroni.
I am sorry to being a bit of an ass but I couldn't manage to not say it.
I understand that my English is poor and you do not have to change anything you write or will write, but at the same time as an Italian I can not live in the same room with a misnamed piece of food.

Why, does it grate your nerves? Cheese you off? :p

Don't worry, I image that will go great with the Maccheroni discussions in here :p

Its Macaroni in english, pronounced the same as in Italian.
dictionary.cambridge.org

macaroni

1. a type of pasta in the shape of small tubes 2. a type of pasta in the shape…
Every other word I've said in this discussion is English, I don't speak Italian, thus I use English spelling.

This is like a French person objecting to me saying Beef and that it should be Bœuf. The word got changed when the English language co-opted it, my condolences on your loss.
E: I will however apologise for spelling it incorrectly in english. :p

Yes. But I was search for the chapters they were introduced. I'm still missing the shinning banner but I've found the eye and anvil. :(
Rereading them cause your writing is too good.

The Apprentice sheet has been updated to show turn numbers for all items if anyone else wants to go back and check them in future.

Anyway Vragni already can't undermine us. As shown when Brynna and Sven completely ignored his attempt to show a united front, the other Runesmiths in the Far North respect Snorri too much for him to actually do anything serious.

But taking action against him would be a horrifically political move that makes it look like we are trying to control the Runesmith culture of the North. Rather than our normal action of promoting our own kind of radicalism, it would be seen as a direct attempt to oust conservative viewpoints by attacking what is the most visible conservative in our sphere of influence.

Why pick that fight when its one we have already won in the eyes of everyone else?

Vragni's "statement" backfired on him, and just made him look petulant.

At the most, Snorri should do a vibe check to forestall a grudge, but other than that we should keep the "you do you" approach.

And make sure to extend him an invite to come teach at Khazagar.

I've gone back a few chapters.... Where was Vragni rebuffed? Was it before Snorri met him?
I don't think we know.
Hmmm.... I'm starting to suspect that it might be related to our wife or something. He's angry at us for a reason. He's hiding behind competitiveness but even his students have picked up on the outright dislike almost hate that radiates from him.
