On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

@soulcake, a few questions:

Is the fact that Orra is a Kraka Drakk expat at all mitigating of our stretching outside the hold borders with our forged lmbs? 'One of our own' kind of deal? Or is she considered wholly part of Ungor now?

Does Snorri think that an adamant smelter would significantly improve in function if made in adamant?

Is Snorri letting other runesmiths know of the reagent properties of odd materials at all? From a business standpoint, it would be valuable.

I think that the argument that researching gromril chain has some form of grand social importance is a bit overplayed.

Presumably there are huge numbers of things that the Ancestor Gods did first and then other dwarves replicated subsequently. Gromril chain looks special because it's something that hasn't been reproduced yet, but as soon as it is it's simply one more item on that enormous list. It doesn't show that dwarves can go beyond what the Ancestor Gods did, it shows quite the opposite, it shows that it's worth investing the effort to produce copies of their original works.

That's where Alchemy is different, as it is something genuinely novel and not something that the Ancestor Gods did first.

Looking at plans, why is Dronril/Dronwut so popular compared to something like firebird feathers? I can see strong reason to believe that the feathers would easier be useful for the Valayan commission or provide progress towards the Valayan runes, as they have links to healing and divinity. I can't see similarly strong arguments for Dronril/Dronwut helping with any of our near term projects. I could easily see them helping with the Happening of Things given the way Azyr propagates backwards in time, or with a lightning themed item, but they don't seem to be on the table yet.

I've been thinking about Snerra's plan, and what we can or should suggest.

I really don't like the idea of Snerra wandering alone. Without a fixed workshop, she'll probably not buckle down and do the wondrous things she probably could do (like anvils of doom).

Since uprooting is on the table, would suggesting she settles somewhere further south and more accessible be an idea? Maybe karak Vlag?
That seems strategically placed to cater to the North, east and south.

Look at the actions. Dronril/Dronwut is a single action investment for a reward. Firebird's Feather takes two. Now, I would like to do both next turn, because I do see where you are coming from, but it is far easier to fit one action in than two.

Personally, I'm still throwing it in because I want to put gromril chain on a bunch of living ancestors going out to found holds. Like I just enjoy the sound of that feat plus alchemy won't be done in time to boost these commissions anyways so I don't see a point in doing it right now.

It was in there purely because we only had one action to play with before this and no one has made a serious objection with regards to changing it yet (this is also why the extra free action was left blank until someone threw out a suggestion). So far there's been some conversation about changing it to firebird feathers now that we have the extra action but people have also been discussing using the extra action to check out what investigating the master rune of purification will look like.

And since there really hasn't been a consensus yet with regards to what to do the current plan has largely stayed in place meaning that come plan time multiple plans will most likely be posted with regards to what to do with our research AP for this turn.

I still want to overkill the prince commission as preferably we don't put anything less than a legendary creation in the king's regalia.

Absolutely, this is going to be worn by all the future kings of Kraka Drakk hopefully forever. We should definitely put in the extra effort on it

On the Dronril versus Firebird I could go for either really, Dronril is going to be used (decoratively) in the belt so it would be helpful to know more about it and a lot of odd places materials have helped with the rune metals. But firebird could help with the Valayan runes, both have potential.

Too late for that, the King's cloak Wyrm's Hide is an Epic creation, not Legendary.
The heir wears that IIRC well the king wears the fire one that's why the king's regalia formed the meteor combo with Trollbreaker, and the belt we just made.

Personally, I don't care if dronril or the firebird research gets done same with the Valayan runes we could swap all of those out for just about anything and it wouldn't make a difference to me. Hm, well actually I do have a preference for if we do swap these out I'd prefer they go to wardstones but I don't care enough about any of them to argue about it as they're all interesting research projects.

As for the Brana Sculpt0r has a good idea I think. Dolgi is the Branawongr but doesn't have the dwarf clout to actually have a retinue yet and is younger than Snorri so the amount of precedent he can set is less in comparison.
...
But Dolgi had a retinue or at least retainers for longer than Snorri has?
Allies/Retainers:
Ironwing:
A massive specimen of a Griffon comparable to the brood of the King of the Skies than most. Friend and ally to the Embermane, he wears the Skyguard Plate made for him, a set of armour so heavy that few others can wear it without being overly encumbered by the sheer weight.
Stormrider: Mate of Ironwing, a Branakroki of above-average size with a proclivity for wreathing herself in a halo of lightning and ice before falling upon her foe in a screaming dive. Wears a suit of Gromril Armour inspired by Stormwrath.

We might need to wait a few millennia for them to fill in all the scales with deeds, then we can make a replacement for them to put more deeds on.
Odds are we only have a couple of centuries until we discover the next step with regards to adamant research and begin to integrate alchemy into our creations so they might get a replacement before that.

I think they fall into the Allies rather than Retainers category.

In political terms, that seems more problematic than staying put in Kraka Drakk. Like holding a grand ceremony in Karak Ungor, it would seem to be an example of Snorri's influence extending out of the Far North.

The issue is the heirs armour is described as:
Decorated in much the same fashion, with Dragonbone scales meant to be etched with the names of the heirs of Clan Ironarm and their deeds done before taking up the Crown of Kraka Drakk.
It would be pretty awkward to walk up to the heir and tell them that the piece of history they are wearing and that is supposed to record their deeds and name for eternity is outdated and we made you a better one! I don't think we can realistically make a new armour set for either the king or the heir until the scales are all full and then it can be retired as a museum piece while we make a new one to record new deeds on.

Clearly we need to send him on lots more orders for monstrous materials...
