On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Work-in-progress Omake: Dwarf mining song

On a good day in Kraka Drak, the mines moved in a continuous stream of iron, silver, sapphires, and of course gromril. But the hours were long for those who had to hammer and chip away at the mountains, and they found ways to entertain themselves. Music was the best way, since it could often go well with the rhythm of the carts and implements. The longbeards sang the old songs, of the early founding of the Dragon Hold, but the younger miners, who grew up knowing nothing but the crisp air of the north favored a new song. It had come in the last decade, and while the Longbeards naturally grumbled about the new songs, but they slowly came to appreciate it, and even lead the chorus.

The end was always the same, the miners would march out to the sound of the drums that heralded the end of their shift. Off to the taverns to drink their fills and celebrate a decent day's work.

AN: I really need something more for this.

I'm of two minds when it comes to teaching Valma our non-Dawi Waking rune. On the one hand, the fact that she already knows all of the following

-- Waking, Improved Variant [Engineering]: (Improved speed, strength and overall performance of Master Rune of Waking), +1 to Movement of Things, Cost: 4 points
-- Waking [Weapon]: Allows the weapon to follow orders or act under its own power, but is still subject to the laws of physics( so a sword won't levitate and a crossbow can't reload without an existing mechanism though a bit of engineering mitigates such issues.), +1 to Movement of Things, Cost: 3 points
-- Waking [Armour]: Allows a suit of armour to follow orders or act under its own power, or aid the wearer, +1 to Movement of Things, Cost: 4 points
-- Waking, Improved Variant [Talismanic]: Allows talismans to act under its own power, activating effects on their own and under pre-set conditions with perfect control and timing without input, +1 to Movement of Things, Cost: 4 points

Means she's already 99% of the way there and thus all we'll be doing really is saving her some time. No risk of a schism here, that's all locked behind Prosthesis and Forged Limb.

On the other hand, as we've seen from Adamant research while Dawi might arrive at similar results the methodology has a huge impact on the quality/magnitude of those results. Basically, we might not want to give her the rune because doing so would lock her down our path for non-Dawi Wakening instead of finding her own (possibly more efficient) method.

Okay, I'm not a dedicated reader of the thread, so apologies if this topic has been beaten to death.

Is there any particular reason not to have every Runelore trade be a maximum exchange, so as to improve the general capabilities of Runesmiths as a whole?

Dwarves in canon didn't do it, and it worked out so well for them /s.

more seriously, with rune of prosthesis and rune of forged limb other runelords might grumble if the person we trade with starts acting as liberally with the rule of pride as we do.

[X] Plan Mountainsouled Hint

Trades work well as a quest mechanic but I just don't think it vibes well with the lore. It breaks my suspension of disbelief a bit that there are no consequences for these exchanges. I think a small trade is a good compromise.

We know as readers that a lot of dwarf traditions are stupid as hell, but I just don't think there is a good in-story reason for the change as of yet.

We're still in the grand times, you realize. This is not the modern age, defined by its greatest eras and individuals.

Real question, as I'm not a huge Warhammer buff, but are the majority of the runelords during this age doing similar trades?
Ooc. They are indeed trading. Though the criteria of each Runesmith/lord and the amount theyre willing to give differs based on personality.

This is a period of openess, relatively speaking, where the dwarfs arent as hesitant to interact with others from a position of trust*. They havent been burned by the War of Vengeance nor suffered the Time of Woes.

*or about as trusting as a dwarf can get with a stranger.
