On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

Right, back home.

First off: @bird yells, that is an utterly magnificent omake and it's a real shame it seems to be getting overlooked in the Rune Trade kerfuffle. Also, more names for the Roster! Would you mind giving Mr. Bitterbrew a first name and former profession so I can add him too?

You see, in that minuscule span before you are blinded by the light, a myriad of incomprehensible visions. Many simply go by too quickly for you to recall a bombardment of inputs, but one, one vision you manage to retain. An abstract lesson conveyed through thought and imagery. You see beings and events, bound with and tied to many strings that all fly skyward. Some are tied to sticks held, squabbled over by an infinite number of hands, the figures below puppeted, jostled and moved by their whims and machinations. While yet more flow into a loom that weaves a tapestry of infinite size and proportion, a grand story of endless possibilities writ large. Then a blinding flash of light as one of the figures clothed in black lifted a torch to his strings, burning them off before moving to do the same to others. The figure is harried, assaulted in its quest, destroying monsters whose strings demand they not die yet can do nothing against his flame. An eternity cutting as many threads as it can through effort and force of will before it crumples to the ground. The puppet masters are enraged, the sea of strings half-burned and destroyed, the tapestry of Fate frayed.

Visions of a swirling vortex, a lone figure standing in the cold, the burned threads above them that would have made the image of a ruined world.

A Bull of Iron, a Griffon of Ice and lightning, their threads ripped in half and tied to another respectively.

A voice, a lesson, echoes to you before blinding white light consumes you.

We are only as bound as we wish to be. With enough Will, with enough effort, one can break the Yoke of Destiny, the Ties of Fate, and deny what was meant to be.

Soooo much to unpack here. So the figure in black is Gazul, presumably? Cutting Dawi souls away from the Aethyr? It's interesting that the strings leading to (the gods? Chaos?) are of the same make but are separate from those feeding the Loom. Caledor is apparently on the books as having defied fate, we get further confirmation Hashut is thoroughly wrecked, and apparently KotS' fate is tied to ours?

"Then you have my oath, Grimvala," You say, voice cutting through the noise,"That I will do all in my power to aid in the building of your new Karak."

I like to imagine there was an awkward, sheepish silence after this, followed by a flurry of similar oaths.

Why they could not see the solution to such a simple problem was doubtlessly beardling foolishness. Cut to the heart of it you say, if they lacked a Hold, then help them make one and be done with it.

Yeah. That's Snorri, right there.

Waking [Weapon]: Allows the weapon to follow orders or act under its own power, but is still subject to the laws of physics( so a sword won't levitate and a crossbow can't reload without an existing mechanism though a bit of engineering mitigates such issues.), +1 to Movement of Things, Cost: 3 points

@soulcake, can you elaborate on this? I'm very unsure what possible use this rune has. About the only thing I can think of that we could do with it is remotely order a crossbow to fire. Otherwise we could...what? Make a sword aggressively flop along the ground at someone?

That is indeed the jist of it. The crossbow would be able to act as a mobile and independent sentry turret with enough individual agency to know friend from foe and follow orders but needs a mechanism for reloading that it can animate.

Valma was so preoccupied by whether she could she never bothered to ask, "Is this practical?"

You however may find some use for this Rune, but at the very least it gives you research progress + lowers the max amount of actions for a potential Understand a Master Rune option!

Ty, mate. I figured there'd be a little while before the next update, but best laid plans and all that, lol

I never bothered to come up with a name or a background for the Bitterbrew guy. The only thing I know about him is that he likes drinking contests, and that he gets a little grandiloquent when drunk in the company of a rowdy matron. I can certainly make up a first name for him if that makes things easier for you though, but I gotta rush now. Bbl.

[X] Plan Almost Full Throttle
I actually have an idea for it. For those that have played Dark Souls 3 and went to the optional area of Smouldering Lake you should remember this bastard;
A completely autonomous and utterly massive multi ballista turret that makes a Bolt Thrower look like a child's toy.

Okay, I'm not a dedicated reader of the thread, so apologies if this topic has been beaten to death.

Is there any particular reason not to have every Runelore trade be a maximum exchange, so as to improve the general capabilities of Runesmiths as a whole?
Well the more widespread our on is the less valuable it will be perceived. Also if we trade away stuff freely other runesmiths might be more hesitate to trade to us if they think that we are going to spend it around.

[X] Plan Almost Full Throttle

zero hesitance, a hint towards what she wants, and a hook for future trade, I think this works. in a few turns we can have another trade of knowledge and give her another hint if she needs and has earned it. I'd rather avoid poking the consequences for maxing hesitance.

If we can i definitely think having the ties Rune be part of the 3rd item of our armor/weapon set is a good idea, maybe on a Banner so we can spread to effect to whoever we're fighting with.

So what you are saying is, we could have Predator esque shoulder cannons and sentient saw blade traps? xD

Now I kinda really want em^^

Means she's already 99% of the way there and thus all we'll be doing really is saving her some time. No risk of a schism here, that's all locked behind Prosthesis and Forged Limb.
This is exactly why I was arguing about all this:
the crux of this issue is the idea of you potentially making the Runesmiths dance to your tune instead of Thungni's so to speak
Arm them is the only thing thats risking getting collectivised right now though by all technicalities the torques could as well
Please remember people: There is nothing inherent about the Runes of Prosthesis and Forged Limb that incline them towards schism except that they are needed en-masse and thus would benefit from as many Runesmiths knowing them as possible.
The risk of schism is primarily in our actions propagating any given rune and we could cause the schism even without a rune by collectivising.

Unga Bunga has even Fewer runes exchanged, from a quick, sleep-deprived glance. Mostly because it's going for more Elgi texts, though.
Lets not pretend that Snorri being hyper interested in Elven knowledge about the winds of magic won't have narrative consequences of its own.

Snorri is the Runelord with a specialisation in odd and esoteric runes. Geeking out especially over a noteworthy collection of such seems pretty reasonable.

[X] Plan Moderate
-[X] Sell:
--[X] MWaking, Non-Dwarf Body Plan Variant (4 points)
--[X] MValaya [Armour] (4 points)
--[X] MUnyielding (6 points, +1 Hesitance)
--[X] MGrimnir [Weapon] (3 points)
--[X] Speech (2 points)
--[X] Sound (1 point)
--[X] Makerstrike (4 points)
-[X] Buy:
--[X] MWaking, Improved Variant [Engineering] (4 points, +1 to Movement of Things)
--[X] Empowerment (3 points)
--[X] The Readings and Insights of the Winde of Metal/Order/Chamon by Avalrith of the House of Serantor, most esteemed Maige of the Kingdom of Saphery (2 points)
--[X] In Progress Book Translations: Azyr, Aqshy, Hysh, and Understanding Elementales/Constructs (8 points)
--[X] Right to buy or trade for all future translations (8 points, -1 Hesitance)

I know it's tempting to grab all the shinies and attack our Movement of Things backlog, but overtrading will eventually bite us in the narrative. Grab all the books and the two runes directly applicable to Gronti (since we've got that Adamant Gronti project in the backlog), give enough to break even and give her what hints we can at Deep Magic while staying Hesitance-neutral.

Also guys since we seem to have unlocked Rune of Fate Research may we just remember the sentient flail weapon plan?
Being able to bend strikes around blocks seems like a lot of fun.

minor note for all of you, I have updated the Available requests section. When the turn is posted I will also include the way you are to vote on whether you accept them or not.

[ ] [Simple] Yorri's Request: [Cost: 2 apprentice actions] Due whenever. Who else am I going to ask you daft fool, your brother?! Gain your master's appreciation and 2x Yorri prods for when I return you ungrateful little troll!
Snorri,

I have a proposition for you. Send me twenty axes for each apprentice you have, each set made by their little hands. I need to see if they're of any use and make sure that you haven't been slacking in your teaching duties, what with all the fanciful expeditions into tainted hell holes full of terror and sorrow! Harrumph!

Your Master,
Yorri

We should definitely do this one. Yorri is always awesome.

I'm surprised both Runesmith branches at 8 does nothing. Oh well.

Should do that Gimli thing however, cough up a 1 Action Pure Gromril item and get out of Hold favor.

Standing's been updated.
Kraka Drakk, "The Dragon Hold," Standing 10, Favours 555
- Standing 5, Dragon Hold: Huskarls added to potential recruitment pool.
- Standing 7, Confluence of Trade: Chance to reduce turn timer on Karaz Ankor orders by 1. (minimum 1)
- Standing 9 (Special), Place of the Odd: Chance to gain 1-2 progress on Odd Places materials.
- Standing 10, Gateway to the North: Reduce turn timer on Karaz Ankor orders by 1. (minimum 1)

Kraka Ornsmotek, "The Eagle's Peak Hold": Standing 8, Favours 100
- Standing 5, Warriors Without Peer: Monster Wardens added to potential recruitment pool.
- Standing 7, Mountainfull of Beasties: Chance to reduce turn timer on Monster Part orders by 1. (minimum 1)

Kraka Dorden, "The Thunder Hold": Standing 9, Favours 60
- Standing 5, Karak a Endrini:
- Standing 7, Work of Morgrim: Bolt Hurler creation unlocked.

Kraka Ravnsvake, "The Raven's Roost Hold": Standing 9, Favours 60
- Standing 5, Rangerhold, Traderhold: Raven Cloaked added to potential recruitment pool. Chance for Ulthuan orders to appear. (minimum 1)
- Standing 7, Bar a Varaz Ankor I: Chance to reduce turn timer on Ulthuani orders by 1. (minimum 1)

Karak/Kraka Krum "The Drumming Deep Hold": Standing 9, Favours 0
- Standing 5, Delving Deep: Krum MIners added to potential recruitment pool.
We're 1 standing away from unlocking further bonuses in Krum and Ravnsvake.

Bara Kormasdottir, Steelplate, Runelord from Kraka Drakk: Standing 7
- Standing 6, A Solid Foundation: Chance to proc extra progress when doing Rune research.
This is really good just for the fact that its general Rune research whereas every other Runelord is specific to a field.
Also Individuals seem to have different brake points for when they give bonuses so Bara is also one away from giving another bonus.
Dwalin Hugarsson, Thunderlung, Runelord from Kraka Drakk: Standing 8
- Standing 6, Battlepoet: Chance to proc extra progress when doing Banner Rune research.
- Standing 8, Rik a Flegg: Increased chance to proc extra progress when doing Banner Rune research.

Lorna Dernasdottir, Hammerfall, Runelord from Kraka Drakk: Standing 9
- Standing 6, : Chance to proc extra progress when doing Talismanic Rune research.
- Standing 8, : Increased chance to proc extra progress when doing Talismanic Rune research.
- Standing 9 (Special), Chatterbox: Rare chance to proc additional Runes when doing Talismanic Rune research.
Its not clear if Lorna's special is unusually good (and free runes certainly are) or if its special as in the T10 has been reduced to 9 or if its an entire extra one.
Will make difference if we're one or two standing away from a Dwalin bonus
E: Actually Karaka Drakk's special seems to be an extra so we're probably one away from Lorna and two from Dwalin
Brynna Kargasdottir, Gildedeyes, Runelord from Karak Zorn: Standing 1
She don like us much :(
Vragni Svaltisson, Silverbrand, Runelord of Kraka Ornsmotek: Standing 4*

Igna Margasdottir, Metalheart, Runelord of Karag Dum: Standing 8
- Standing 6, Metalheart: Chance to proc extra progress when doing Armour Rune research.
- Standing 8, Kvinn a Klad: Increased chance to proc extra progress when doing Armour Rune research.

Sven Hoggrisson, Baragmaker, Runelord of Kraka Dorden: Standing 6
- Standing 6, Baragmaker: Rare chance to proc extra progress when doing Engineering Subtype: Siege Engine Rune research

Valma Hilldasdottir, Stoneshaper, Runelord from Kraka Dorden: Standing 7
- Standing 6, Okri a Gronti: Chance to proc extra progress when doing Master Rune/Rune of Waking research.

Skegg Borsson, Runelord of Kraka Ravnsvake: Standing 6
- Standing 6, Axesson: Rare chance to proc extra progress when doing Weapon Rune research.

Skjoll Borsson, Runelord of Kraka Ravnsvake: Standing 6
- Standing 6, Shieldsson: Rare chance to proc extra progress when doing Armour Rune research.

Ogra Wardmaker, Runelord of Karak Krum: Standing 5
Ogra and Valma are both one standing away from giving extra bonuses. We should consider giving Valma a favourable trade, especially if we're planning on doing Waking research any time soon.
Drongkaraz/ "The Stormpeak"/ Aerie of Kraka Drakk: Standing 7, Favours 0
- Standing 5, Branakroki: Brana added to potential recruitment pool.
- Standing 7, Far-Reaching Fliers: Chance for Branakroki to aid retainer actions in the Far North.
Interesting Brana are in the recruitment pool however I think they were not valid candidates for the Hearth Guard. I assume this means they're available as a new retinue unit if we make one.

Brotherhood of Dron: Standing 6, Favours 55
- Standing 5, Letters among Peers: Chance to proc extra progress when doing Material Science research.

Cult of Valaya: Standing 6, Favours 50
- Standing 5, Shieldmaiden, Defender: Valkyrie Guard added to potential recruitment pool.

Cult of Gazul: Standing 5, Favours 0
- Standing 5, Watchers in the Dark: Watchers and Guardians of Gazul added to potential recruitment pool.
Institutions appear to give standing bonuses at the same rate as Holds, meaning we're probably 1 short for Drom and Valaya, we could consider the maiden commission.
And speaking of commissions
[ ] [Simple] Armoured Maidens: [Cost: 12 actions] Due end of Turn 40. Productivity Like no Other will proc. Gain 70 Favour and 1 Standing with the Cult of Valaya. Snorri thinks another patron might be found by end of Turn 35. The Clergy of Valaya are making plans to expand the Valkyrie Guard in preparation for what they believe is a coming wave of colonization across the Karaz Ankor in the future. Given your history with the Cult, they've come to you wondering if you had the inclination to create armour for some of the future Valkyrie Guard that will no doubt come from the endeavour. The number is not the sum total of suits, but ones specially made for their eldest and most veteran Matrons. The foundational core of the future Valkyrie Guard in these future-Holds. The Cult will hold the suits in their vaults until such a time they are needed.

[ ] [Difficult] A Princely Wedding Gift Pt.1: [Cost: 1 action] Due end of Turn 36. If a rune you want requires special ingredients that you don't have access to I will alert you. Apply optional Rune Ingredients here. Gain 100 Favour with Kraka Ravnsvake. Snorri thinks another patron might be found by end of turn 34. King Villi has come to you asking if you would make a wedding gift that he could offer Prince Gimli on the day he weds the King's daughter. King Villi trusts that your relationship with Clan Ironarm is such that you know what to best make for them, but he would prefer something that Gimli will carry with him when he eventually takes up the panoply of his father and grandfather as their equipment has become the royal arms of Kraka Drakk's monarch and heir. In other words, anything but a suit of [Armour] or a [Banner] is preferable.

Both Ravnskake and Valaya are places we potentially want standing with so may be worth picking.
Its interesting Yorri isn't on the standings at all, unless he moonlights as a king. I assume he's outside of this because he gives Yorri Prods not standing bonuses.
